“Ah,” Mina said comprehendingly. “I wonder if that was what Christian warned us to stay out for.”

She considered the idea for a moment; it seemed a bit of an overreaction to her to warn them out of the whole town just for one building, but then, she had no idea what was in there. It could very well be Aidrelas’ nesting ground, like the Tin Tower was supposed to be for Ho-Oh. Or it could just be Christian being his usual quirky self…

“Should we risk it then?” she asked Misty and Stacey. “If the tower’s the reason the town’s off-limits, we could probably sneak in so long as we don’t take our time about it. On the other hand…” she shrugged, and left the rest of the sentence unspoken.

If it’s not, we could be in deep, deep trouble.

Misty thinks a bit.  "No I doubt he meant just the tower.  Hate to say this, but I think we should make camp outside of town.  Maybe find some soil and plant some berries. I would like to find a town in this blasted place that we can heal our pokemon at in a pinch though."

Mina nodded. If Misty of all people wanted to be cautious, she wasn’t about to argue. “All right then. Shall we keep going while we still have daylight, or find somewhere to hide the wagon nearby and make camp now?”

Mina was all for making camp now, but didn’t say so. She could—she would go on for another couple of hours if she had to.

Mina grinned awkwardly, amused and too tired to argue.

“Okay then. If you want to make us a great big target out in the open like this it’s your choice. But on your head be it if a bunch of Bandra goons go and ambush us!” she half-scolded. Then she looked thoughtful. Bird watching. “Actually, that’s not a bad idea. Pidgey, come out!”

The little brown bird materialized and settled onto Mina’s shoulder with a coo.

“Pidgey, we’re going to make camp,” she told him, scratching him absently under the chin. “I want you to keep an eye on it while we set it up and look around, okay? And come get me if you see anything.”

Pidgey nodded with a coo, then took off to circle the wagon from above.

“Okay, we’re set there. Let’s just get the wagon ready and then go scout out the area.”

Mina set about recalling the rentals pulling the wagon and making what other preparations were necessary before setting off to explore.

“I guess I’ll meet up with you guys later,” she told the others once the camp was ready. “’Dex me if anything comes up.”

With that Mina set off north to circle the town, on the lookout for berries, suitable soil to plant them in, signs of Bandra activity or anything else of interest. If nothing else, she reasoned to herself, it looks like there’s a road going out of the north side of town; I wonder where it leads?

Misty, had already thought about a possible ambush.  Finding a few of the pokeballs that have not been used for pulling in the cart she activates 4 of them.  "Guys, I know you don't know me, but we need your help.  Until we get you back to your rightful owners, we need you to help watch out for these other pokeballs.  When you get tired, let me know and I will get 4 more out."

If they seem unwilling to help, she will rotate stripes, evan, and the rest so that there is always somebody on watch.  With a wide open area there should be no way that anybody could sneak up on them.

The Pokéballs open to reveal a trio of Pidgeys and a Spearow. They listen to you, and then look at each other. After what appears to be a minor argument in Pokéspeak, they take watching positions around the camp.

((In other words, yes they will help. ))

Thanking them, and keeping the camp in sight, she will look around in the south for berries and soil.  Never too far from camp, however.  Somebody has to stay with the pokeballs, and she did not know what Draloed was planning on doing.

Stacey looked around. She was kind of wanting to see what was actually going on with that tower. It seemed a little interesting, and she was very curious. The others didn't want to go, and she thought it would be best for her to not go in alone. So, she just stayed silent, and let the others choose to move on.

With the others scouting about, she also chose to do the same. Taking into consideration of which way the others went, she went the opposite direction, for the ground to be covered in fairly equal proportions.

((all aboard the Winterfate Express! We're gonna railroad all night long! ))

Main Group (everyone except Brona and Christian):

You all look around (especially Stacey), but find nothing of interest. The fact is somewhat discomforting, considering that Christian has repeated almost ad nauseaum ((sic?)) that you should all stay away from Ternai. What could he be trying to warn you away from?

Night falls and the group decides to rest.

Brona:

You stay the night at the Pokémon Center, keeping Adrina company.

Christian:

You sleep for the night.

You are woken up forcefully early in the morning. You see Selene staring at you. She says:

"It is time. Rally the Grunts, you got a town to take."

She pauses for a moment, and then continues:

"I'm going to attack Starlight Squad HQ. They have proven recently to be nearly as big a thorn on my side as the blasted Elite Four."

She pauses for another moment, and then gives you some exposition:

"A few months ago, our dominance was contested by them. Even before that party of trainer brats was thinking about coming to Helnith, they were hindering our efforts. The only advantages we have at the moment are territory control and the fact that not even the other side seems to know of the Squad's existence."

Selene grins in a stern tone, and concludes:

"I plan to keep it that way..."

"Move out!"

You take 6 Grunts with you as you head out. Two helicopters are waiting for you outside. You enter one of the helicopters with 3 Grunts and the other 3 Grunts enter the other one.

About two hours later...

You see Ternai in the distance. You estimate about five more minutes before you reach the town. A look at your watch reveals that it is about 10AM.

---------
Main Group and Brona:

You suddenly hear a strange sound in the sky. As you look up, you see two black specks moving towards the town...

((Dum dum dum!!! ))
((Reaction time for you guys! ))

Subito two black specks head to the town. Draloed spots them.

Draloed looks up to the sky. "Perhaps this is what Christian was talking about? I've got to see what is going on, Ternai can't possibly be dangerous by itself, Anyone care to join me?

((Previous afternoon))

Mina spent some time wandering around north of town. She wanted to see where the road led, but found herself gazing off at the horizon in a blank, tired daze often enough that she decided it would be a bad idea to get so far away from the wagon. Just in case she called out her Natu.

“Hello,” she said to him, scooping him up so he was closer to eye level. “I need to ask you something. You see the wagon way over there?”

“Nat,” he agreed, somewhat suspiciously as if to say, ‘yeah, and?’

“If I asked you to, could you Teleport me from here to there? Not right now!” she added as he looked ready to do so right that instant. “Just…if we need to. Could you?”

Natu looked at her with the uninterrupted stare his species was noted for, then bobbed on his tiny little feet in a nod. “Natu nat!”

“Oh good.”

Mina sighed with relief; she didn’t want to end up falling asleep away from camp if she could help it. Natu hadn’t been able to tell her why he couldn’t just Teleport her to her friends back in Dewdrop, but not being psychic she couldn’t exactly read his mind, and apparently the answer was more complicated than he could convey with limited pantomime and Pokespeak she couldn’t understand.

Mina petted the little bird as thanks and set him on her shoulder, then went to look for berries and suitable soil for a bit. Natu chirped at her every now and then and wandered over her head and shoulders, staring at anything that caught his interest. Oddly, he kept looking back at her as though expecting her to say something, before fluffing his feathers in a frustrated sort of way and going back to staring.

After a while wandering the relatively green stretch north of Ternai, Mina gave up her search and decided to spend the rest of her afternoon more productively. There was nothing outside the town on her end, and there had been no suspicious activity inside the town that she could see, so she was going to train. She called out Pikachu.

“Hey little girl,” Mina greeted. Pikachu looked around for an opponent for a few seconds before sighing in relief. Mina knew how she felt; the last couple of battles the little Electric type had been in she’d been knocked unconscious.

“I know, my dear, we’re going to practice so those nasty Geodude won’t be so much of a problem, okay?”

“Chaaa!” Pikachu looked like a little kid about to take their medicine, but nodded unhappily.

“Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do…” Mina took off her pack (Natu teleported to the top of her head to avoid being knocked off) and rummaged around for a bit before finding the battered empty water bottle she’d fished out of the Siltis Village pond what seemed like ages ago. She had plans to turn it into a lure for Pidgey to practice with, but this worked as well for now. Pikachu’s ears tilted interestedly.

“I’m going to throw this, and I want you to try and catch it before it hits the ground, okay?”

Pikachu nodded, hesitantly. She got to all fours and tensed, ready to spring.

“Ready? Go!”

((Two hours later…))

Mina sat down with a tired sigh, even more exhausted than she’d been beforehand, but they’d made steady progress. Pikachu had gone from fumbling the bottle after a light toss to snatching it out of the air at twice the distance, and actually managed to pull off what Mina thought was a Quick Attack at one point.

“Good job little girl,” Mina petted the little Electric type. Pikachu chaa’d happily at the caress and tugged at the battered piece of plastic, wanting to continue. Mina, however, had been walking all day and was too tired; she sat down with a sigh and pulled another ball off her belt.

“Okay, how about this instead? Sandshrew, come out!” The Ground type materialized. “Pikachu, I want you to try to hit Sandshrew with Thundershock.”

A chorus of Pokespeak broke out; easily divining the reason (as it was pretty blindingly obvious), Mina held up a hand for silence. “Yes, I know you can’t hurt her—that’s the point.” Three sets of curious eyes gazed back at her, including Natu (who had abandoned his perch on Mina for a nice stable bit of ground once the training started). “That way you don’t have to hold back, and we don’t have to drag either of you to the Center afterwards. Get it?” A chorus of understanding answered her. “And Sandshrew, I want you to try and avoid her attacks. Don’t make it easier on her!”

She set the pair of Pokemon to training.

((Two hours after that (one for Pikachu, one for Sandshrew)…))

Mina called her team back after that and made her way a little closer to camp. It was almost 8PM, and she had one more thing she wanted to do before rejoining the others.

Mina hunted down a stick and a patch of bare soil, then called out her team. Then she started scribbling shapes into the dirt.

“Okay guys, we’re going to try something new today…”

((One hour later…))

Mina gave up her latest exercise after it got too dark for her to see and she started fumbling words from exhaustion. She fed her team, and afterwards made a few exchanges she’d been meaning to make for a while now.

“Houndour, can I trade you?” Mina held out an Oran Berry. Houndour sniffed at it, then put down his Salac Berry and picked up the Oran. Mina wiped the Salac Berry off and put it in her pack to plant later. “And Pidgey, I’m going to swap the Quick Claw over to Oodramer if you don’t mind; you’re faster than he is and you have Quick Attack.”

Mina switched the Quick Claw, thanked her team for their hard work that day then called them back and got ready to go to sleep.

And then she found the little chip she’d packed away in her backpack a few days before.

With a brief burst of energy she pulled out her Pokedex, paged through it furiously for a few seconds, then called out part of her team.

“Hey guys,” she asked, eyes glittering with excitement despite the dark circles under them, “what do you think about this?”

((Today—morning))

Mina went to sleep early, trying to make up for not getting any the previous two nights. It didn’t work as well as she’d planned; her sleep was interrupted by vaguely disturbing dreams involving doors opening, and she awoke several times during the night as a result.

About six o’clock she woke up a final time and decided that it was close enough to morning that it wouldn’t be worth going back to sleep. She called her team out to feed them in privacy (and noted she was running out of food; she needed to find somewhere she could safely resupply soon) and started packing what she could of the camp as quietly as she could manage.

Later after the others woke up, there was an odd thudding in the air.

"Perhaps this is what Christian was talking about? I've got to see what is going on, Ternai can't possibly be dangerous by itself, Anyone care to join me?”

Mina followed Draloed’s gaze and spotted the two specks headed towards the town.

“Yeah, I’ll come with you,” Mina told him. She checked her Pokeballs; Pidgey, Pikachu, and Sandshrew on her right, Oodramer, Houndour, and the Great Ball that held Natu on her left.

“Ready when you are.”

"Allright, this is the plan. The first step will be to take down the trainers at gym and pokémon center. In other words we split up into two groups, both which are quite obvious.
Group 1 - My group - will take secure the gym and take out the gym leader.
Group 2 - The others - will secure the pokémon center and make sure no other trainer get their pokémon healed.
If all goes smoothly, then taking over the rest of the city will be no problem. But remember, second priority will be tower, but I'll explain how we do that one after we have taken control of the gym and the center.

You advance towards the Pokémon Center and see...((well, you see Brona and his trio of Pokémon, but you don't know who he is yet, so OOC parentheses for the info)) someone with a trio of Pokémon staring into the distance, in the direction of the black specks.

Five minutes pass...

The helicopters reach Ternai, as you set down near the gym. The other helicopter sets down near the Pokémon Center. You notice your former group standing in front of the Pokémon Center, along with someone you've never seen before and a young lady with a Chansey.

"It should go away on its own in a few days in any case. Why couldn't he have caught Pokérus instead? Now that's a disease you'd WANT to get. Supposedly makes Pokémon more wise."

The Chansey moves next to the Growlithe and seems to nod in agreement with Adrina's assessment.
