Casual online player matchmaking for heroes 2 through 5

I have had a lot of fun the past few months playing casual non-competitive games in heroes 5, mostly with Mytical, but with a couple others as well.

I thought, why not open it up to other players who have a similar friendly mind set?

If you are a competitive heroes player go here:

http://www.toheroes.com/

If you want to whine like in this thread:

whining

Join TOH.

______

If you want to play heroes for fun with friendly people this is the place for you.  I'll be keeping updated lists for players heroes 2 through 5.  I created an msn account solely for the purpose of communicating with fellow Heroes players.  I suggest you do the same.  You can also use HCM to contact players on the list.  I've bolded their (user)names so you can find them to hcm them.

Both players should agree on the rules before starting the match.  I like to play with reloads offered and accepted as necessary...but you are welcome to choose your own rules as long as they are accepted by both players.

If you have a problem with a fellow player go ahead and post about it in this thread.  You can put your self up for judgement by the community in disputes...this will help the community know who is not so fun to play with.  Once again if you are competitive go to TOH.

That's it everyone.  I really hope this takes off and we can have some fun as a community.

__

This is some info that helps for setting up heroes v matches:

First of all, you'll need to install msn  (don't ask for icq or yahoo when the whole community is using msn to communicate).  Then in this thread  there is a whole list of players you can add to msn to look for a game.  Then go to Hamachi  download version 1.0.1.5 (895 KB) of Hamachi, and never update to ensure no desync problems.

TOH maps page designed for 1 vs. 1
http://www.toheroes.com/h5maps.html

It works better if you play without any AI players.
___

If someone can give the appropriate info for the technical setting up of heroes 2 through 4 matches online I'd be happy to update this section.

Come on, ToH is not all about hostility and whining Most of my opponents have been friendly and honorable, good initiative with this thread though

This sounds interesting... BUT:

1) I have the newest version of Hamachi and I use it, I don't want to downgrade it just to play H5 (why do we need version 1.0.1.5 anyway?)

2) I somehow suck at H5, maybe I'll be too easily crushed and just waste your time

1.) Newer versions of hamachi were found to disconnect very often with heroes 5...maybe you could run a separate installation?  Well I don't know enough technical stuff to help there...it may be that the new version and the old version can play with each other.

2.) Well that's kind of the point of this thread.  This is for non-competitive people who might be weaker players.  For example I don't mind playing against people on normal difficulty level.  It's still more fun than the AI.

Desyncs? Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I don't see how Hamachi, which just creates the virtual network, can make desyncs for a specific game (H5)... now, different versions of Hamachi, that may give some desyncs indeed... Maybe those that experienced desyncs with the newer Hamachi actually played someone who forgot to update Hamachi and thus there were different versions

I don't know, I'm not an expert in networking...

The fact is that I had 7 consecutive disconnects with the new one before I downgraded and I have had none since. If the opponent does not have same version then he will most probably not see your game.

I'm not very fond of the idea of downgrading Hamachi, I think I'll use this one first. If there are desyncs then I'll consider downgrading to 1.0.1.5

You missed the part where you can't see the other's game most of the time.. In any case reinstalling will not take more than a minute.

Sure, go ahead, why not
Those who want to play sometime HCM me for MSN ID

Oh and Elvin: the problem is that when you reinstall Hamachi, it generates a new "Hamachi IP" so others won't recognize you anymore, and all your created networks will be "destroyed". The problem of course is people that play other games (not H5) usually use the latest version of Hamachi

You join a network or create and let others join. Check the interface, it's pretty intuitive.

Usually the person you are going to play with can give you a hamachi network name and password to join to.

If not just create your own and give it to the other person.  I better put a note about using HCM in the write-up.

I usually (at most) can play wednesdays and thursdays.  Wed is almost always set with pheonix in the mornings.  However, I am deffinately a 'casual' player and play for fun over playing to win.
