Yet their movies suck (though I still didn't see Days of...) And I liked each of the "Avangers" movies (well maybe Iron Man 3 didn't quite deliver for me because of this whole Mandarin twist).

Dem Hobbit 2 Extended edition is a-comin'. Can't wait! It's sucks they didn't throw in a little Smaug figurine though... I wonder when we'll see the second trailer for Hobbit 3.

I've also watched Maleficent. A really nice movie. Maybe too sugary, but they've really wrapped-up this alternative version of Sleeping Beauty nicely. Some guys say they didn't liked how the evil sorceress turned out good, but I think it was a nice take on the story (loved how they made those three fairies into air-headed good-for-nothings), and I definitely liked the overall climate and scenography. Oh, and Angelina rules

Awsm!

I did expect a tad more though: shapeshifters, Eagles. They've probably left them for the movie itself.

But sure is depressing and gloomy out there...

BTW, what a Hobbity day for me, not only the trailer, but I've also got my hands on the Extended Desolation in 3D. I plan to watch it tomorrow though, to start my long weekend with a bang!

X-Men First Class and X-Men Days of Future Past are exceptions, but the comic book movies are starting to get down to a C grade material for me. I'm not bored from watching them but they definitely don't leave me saying 'Wow' at the end. There's too much of a pattern in them.

Desolation of Smaug extended edition is really good! Lots of great scenes added.

The ending still sucks, of course, but I really enjoyed the journey

I'm not a Valentine party pooper, but when you stop and think about it, it is so, so rare to find a movie that doesn't have romance in it. The big screen needs to be marketed to both male and the female neurology, so it's inevitable that it would be that way, but I kind of wish the Hobbit movies could just be a classic coming-of-age adventure without throwing in the elf pheromones. I mean I'm fine with romance being in the vast majority of movies, because I like romance too, but I just wish there would be a break every now and then. I mean bacon and eggs are awesome but I still wouldn't want them every single morning. Amirite?

Although I have to admit, the implied romance between Faramir and Eowyn in the Return of the King was quite beautifully done, with both of them basically being miserable the entire movie and then finding each other. I don't recall that being in the books but it was a nice touch. The Legolas / hastily inserted walking sex object + video game-esque elf lady in the new movies is a lot less inspiring (Evangeline Lilly was a good pick for an actress, but her part is lame). Other than inducing some boners with some introverted teenage boys in the theater I don't see her existence in the movie making it any better. They could have dedicated that screen time to the party of dwarves and instead they're breaking it up, when movies already suffer the disadvantage of having such limited time compared to a running show.

I'm not so sure that's it or at least, that's completely it. I mean sure, girls wont be watching Chuck Norris movies or anything but is it really a deal breaker for most of them, if the plot lacks a love story? I'm quite skeptical about that, I've never heard a girl trash talking a really good movie because nobody kissed.

I think the bigger reason is, a love story is one of the quickest and easiest ways to make the characters relatable and "human."  Besides, males also like to watch the guy get the girl, it's almost like in every freaking cheap action movie you can think of.

Yeah, but it is manifested in different ways. Let's face it: the chick flic industry isn't being fueled by football stadiums of weeping males. Women are conciliatory creatures that more readily desire the softness and stability of an intimate romance. Not that men by any means can't be that way (and deep down, I think we can desire that every bit as strongly as women do, maybe even more-so since we have difficulty dropping our inhibitions and exposing ourselves), but it tends to be something we have to consciously pursue. If we follow the path of least resistance, then we just end up terrorizing the neighborhood with our genitals and in the long-term not really being happy.

I really dont like how it looks from visual point. There is really to much CGI, and it also is not done that good. The movie looks more like a video game/cartoon.

yeah thats my greatest disappoint with the Hobbit
it'd be fine if they aimed to make The Hobbit relatively indepedent from the LOTR series, but when its set-up as a direct prequel, sharing the themes and atmosphere of the LOTR films, then it doesn't work with all that almost cartoony and very obvious CGI
