The projection happened towards Solo already, though. On its own, I really enjoyed Solo quite lot, but I guess the broader audience got turned down because The Last Jedi sucked so bad. Ironically, I've enjoyed Rogue One and Solo tons more than The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

In many ways it looks like they are retreating into more familiar territory. But if they were to send off the old characters unceremoniously, they might as well have started fresh. Han's exit was a joke, Luke's exit was confusing at best, Chewbacca is still absent() and only Leia has a chance for a proper goodbye. They didn't do much with them either, except Luke. Which wasn't.. particularly smooth.

But they don't even respect their new characters. Hax became a punchline, Phasma is still cannon fodder, Poe became a hothead idiot for laughs and audience diversion, Finn well could have been omitted from the last movie. At least Kylo is no longer angry German kid but that will take a while to forget..

I could not be less excited about another Star Wars film.  I saw a New Hope 2.0 and was not impressed to see the Last Jedi and I'm certainly not interested in seeing this latest installment.  The rumor that the Emperor will appear killed what meager interest I had in it.

Given how interesting the universe is, it's pathetic they keep focusing on the Jedi & Sith, the most boring, over-saturated parts of the universe.

Maybe it was an elaborate scheme, to make new characters fail so hard that bringing back Palpatine would look like a great idea!

The entire series is stale.

I smirked when my coworker, who dislikes the Marvel movies because he believes the are convoluted, tell me he loves the Star Wars franchise.

What really killed episode 7 & 8, if you ask me, was the lack of an overall structure in the story. Even when George Lucas made episode 4, he had the general story line for 5 & 6 already in mind and made episode 4 in such a way that it could stand on its own as well as be the first part of a trilogy, a trilogy for which episodes 5 & 6 had an overarching storyline.

While episodes 1, 2 and 3 are generally considered less, they too had an overarching story line even from before they started filming episode 1, that bound everything together.

Episode 7 was supposed to be the first of 3 movies of a trilogy, but there was nothing in plan for episodes 8 and 9 when they shot 7. Rian Johnson basically got a carte blanche to do whatever he wanted with episode 8, as long as it connected to the state of the galaxy by the end of episode 7. And he, too, left the story for episode 9 open for whoever was coming next. The only thing that might redeem episode 9 is that JJ Abrams can at least steer it back towards what episode 7 started and at least make it a logical whole instead of 3 separate movies that don't deserve the label of "trilogy".

What I disliked about the movies is that seemingly the Order appeared from nowhere, yet it had the military strenght to conquer the whole galaxy in a matter of days. There is no logical explanation for their strenght. Even if they banded together all of Empires remnants it still feels completly out of place. It all boils down to New Hope 2.0 plot device: we get meager size of forces of "good" because they needed a cliched "overwhelming odds" motive. Yeah right, and then they give us a super prodigy who can move mountains from the get go to balance things out...

The Prequel trilogy at least had some logic behind it: dark forces worked in the shadows and steadily built their power.

And that is just one of my allegations against these movies.

Yes, this is exactly my sentiment as well, what was the fuss about defeating the empire if it was only to see another empire even stronger replace it within their life time. The whole thing turned into some cheap tv show, they should have stopped at the original trilogy and preserved its magical feeling.

I remember reading what happened after the original trilogy some time ago. I don't know if it was canon or of it was ultimately discarded from it. But the concept of Lukes Jedi Academy on Yavin 4 and "The Battle of the Jedi Praxeum" was pretty interesting...

This way not only they would pay tribute to Luke, they would have a new generation of Heroes and Empire would strike back (for the second time though ). We had Anakin (son of Luke) and Jacen (Son of Han) which would turn enemies. We had Yuuzhan Vong War. The basis for a great story was there.

WTF happened I ask?

I still like how people were shocked by the major death in New Hope 2.0.  Was it really that unpredictable an old actor would be killed off?  Seriously?

I wasn't. Even before the movie, two things were leaked. First was that there was a major plot turn with the death of an important character. The second was that Harrison Ford was really tired of the role of Han Solo and only signed the contract if this was his last Star Wars movie. It wasn't hard to connect the dots.

I don't think that was the issue. The issue is that he was killed by his whiny, uncharismatic son. But I don't care either way, I'm not a fan of SW. I only judge the movies by the fact that they were a part of my childhood and I'm simply curious how they turn out...

I wonder how they're gonna do the emperor(who did nothing wrong) in the supposedly "last" sequel.

Will they take a page from the now decanonized EU, or will they have Mary Rey Sue to one shot him before he can even utter his first line?

Harrison Ford was tired of Star Wars the moment it became a cultural hit. His personality is the opposite of whatever force in the human psyche drives fandom.

When he told Anakin to murder the younglings, he was speaking poetically about murdering their ignorance with a good, solid education and a healthy diet. Anakin misinterpreted him and the galaxy was at war ever since.

Anyway, Disney needs to cash in on the 4 billion they paid for Star Wars so one can be 100% certain there will be many loose ends once Episode 9 is finished.

I'm not sure I agree with that, since Indiana Jones became a cultural hit just as well and that's a character he likes very much. So much, even, that he's taking up the whip and hat for another Indiana Jones movie that's currently in the works - and he didn't resent doing it, either. The movie is scheduled for 2021.

But they are quite similar characters, maybe his problem with Han Solo is not the character per se but the overwhelming burden of how one role got stuck with him, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fischer couldnt even carry on with their careers. As popular as it is, Indiana Jonesí significance is nowhere near Star Wars and it doesnt have the same, dedicated fan base and they can act quite disturbing from an actorís perspective.
