I'm about 6 months behind schedule, but I finally watched Django Unchained. Another stellar movie

The scene with the bags over the heads of the raiders was the best part of the entire movie. "I CAN'T SEE **** OUT OF THESE THINGS".

Although I still don't think it tops this scene with Brad Pitt. I died.

I just watched Movie 43, I am still puzzled why so many stars agreed to play in this piece of trash. It was supposed to be a comedy but I just laughed like three or four times through the whole thing.

A Good Day to Die Hard is so awful you wish to forget it out of respect for the first three movies. John McClane used to be smart, that was his thing, writing down the names of the guys by hiding on top of the elevator, doing the trick with the water cans etc etc.. He used to calculate his moves. Now he just jumps out of windows with his son and somehow they always miraculously survive. And we have the over the top CGI crap as usual. Everything wrong that I recently talked about Hollywood nowadays.

it popped up on my streaming site this night and I decided to give it a look. well, the chase scene at the beginning was quite enjoyable, but overall the movie is silly, over the top action with hardly any plot or character development and full of nonsense.

the hotel scene is completely ridiculous. everything is totally retarded, nothing actually makes sense. the final will make you facepalm for sure. the baddies are unmemorable and useless anyway, they probably deserved their pitiful deaths.

though I still had some fun, the action was enjoyable at times (especially at the beginning) and seeing the mc clanes being more concerned about arguing with each other (reminiscent of Batman and robin) than by the terrorists threatening them was funny as well.

Bad casting, no charisma from anyone, totally unknown actors. The son was obviously hired on his muscles and had a dumb expression. I would have seen Brad Pit much more in that role.

Yeah the new Die Hards are a disappointment compared to the first three. They don't have the feel-good vibe, the guerrilla tactics, or the cool villains. Die Hard 1 and 3 had terrific villains.

it's an understatement. the villains didn't even seem to know what they were fighting for. I could have been a dancer

I thought the 4th Die Hard film was quite good, actually - and it got pretty good reviews from critics as I recall.  Haven't seen the new one but by all accounts it's the weakest entry in the series.

Tonight I watched Jack Reacher.  Solid thriller, if you can get past Tom Cruise being... Tom Cruise.

4th was not as bad as this but still over the top at points. A truck fighting a jet scene for instance... CGI is a very risky thing to use that way, it can suddenly turn the movie into its own parody, like an unintended Naked Gun or something..

Jack Reacher had none of those issues, it's a solid thriller with a clever story. Reading imdb comments (I often do that after watching a movie, it's refreshing too see different perspectives on a movie you liked or hate, and if you hated it so much, it's fun to read other people trash-talk about it), I noticed people who read the Reacher books disapproved Tom Cruise for the role, others usually thought he was okay. I had no problem with him.

Speaking of Tom Cruise, anyone watched the Oblivion? Although not a bad idea, it was just too obvious from the start to the end.

Just re-watched Kingdom of Heaven, a solid movie and I greatly enjoyed it, it does have some slip-ups but they're bearable. I do advise watching the extended/director's edition, since they removed entire key characters and bits, in particular the heir to the throne (the Queen's son) and the duel between the two major characters.

And with that I depart from my Japanese phase and return to the basterd sword wielding fanatic hospitaller phase.

Moon's a good sci fi except that it's one of those movies that left me feeling shaken up and depressed at the end, which I guess isn't really a bad thing. It just the kind of movie it is.

I got Raid coming next week. Heard great things about it.
