i had a great game few days ago... i stood strong in middle week 2 on hourglass... then i made dumbest mistake... newbie mistake.. i wanted to flee from middle (cursed ground) but totally forgot the appearence of shackless of war ..

my opponent did not want me to continue game and therefor i had to report loss.. GOSH COMON its a game... we suppose to have fun... but i guess my opponent couldnt see the fun in continuing the game getting his ass kissed. This makes me sad.. he even was a player i thought we play the game vs. me on friendly stage.. but again im surprised by the greede of toh players.

well.. have fun!

After your reply i am sure of something .... you dont know the difference between rules and principles... its my choice to say my opponent my arrival because i dont want to miss a great battle after 3 or 4 hours ... i dont want to caught my opponent unprepared ....
To lose a game to an opponent is not the end of world... if my opponent offers me load because he loses main i accept... why my opponent must spend his time waiting my army without strong hero... as i say fun is fun ... principles are principles.... and the subject to love this game its my concern.

i dont ask my opp for reload (or am whining in another

if i ever ignore these two simple rules its mb better

So woods you would refuse if ur opponent aks you for a restart on a Random day 2 ?

you would summon ur opponents boat on random ?

you would be happy to get a draw bacause u have tactics and opponent doesn't ?

You would kill 80 chaos hydras with 1 archdevil and mass slow ?

unwritten rules.......hmmmm

i have a few

i don't mind askin fer a restart if i wnet into a creature or toia say on auto combat by mistake. i usually fight most reg creature battles on the map on auto as a courtesy to my opponent anyways and i'd hope he'd cut me some slack if it slips my mind that i forgot to turn it off for a big battle

if by my own stupidity i lose my main early going into a fight with my eyes wide open i will not ask for a restart. if op wants to restart and play it out i will most times but my op will always get to report the win.

in general i don't play with any rules, or maybe i should say i don't make anybody who plays me use any rules.

i myself don't use certain tactics that i find disagreable, but i would never ask an opponent to play by my rules, i think it's it rude. i do reserve the right to not play an op i found particularly annoying. i'm sure we all have a list of peeps we just hate to play

so in closing i'd just like to say i do not enforce any rules on others who play me and i don't allow others to force any rules on me. but i do play the way i play and i enjoy it. now if somebody else thinks the way i play is stupid, well that just maybe, my record in toh through the seasons hasn't been the best. but i've enjoyed playing the game and i've never been called a cheater. if i did ever cheat i obviosly wasn't very good at it!! most peeps who've played me usually enjoyed it.

ps.i noticed there were a lotta baasttaards postin on this message, just thought i'd jump in as well

pps. grand!!! you a real baastaard!!!!

Here are my unwritten rules:

1. IF you start a game, u gotta play until day 6 before leaving.

2. If you get morale in main fight, you have to use it to defend.

3. If you get luck with a stack, that stack has to defend for 3 turns or I call hit&run.

4. No restarts after week 2.

5. No use of tome of earth magic if you have better than basic earth.

6. You can only use heaven helm if you ask first.

7. You should always ask me if I wanna be red.

8. If you are red, no day 1 attacks.

9. If you are blue, no attacking my heros day 7.

10. No building level 7 if I donīt have level 7 yet.

This is common courtesy in a game, and if you donīt like these rules, then you are a sissy and should report loss to me right now, or maybe you just donīt know how to enyoj this game. I play with these rules with all my friends and they always say its a great game and how can u win all the time bjorn =)   Im good player.

thats just so annoying, and where it can lead we see on several players would do what do i know to win and dont know the difference anymore between tactics and cheating.

oh yeah, im not on hc anymore, so dont give me that crap a hc person cant say this

As we speak 3do is playtesting, recoding, rebalancing the game.

They play it AGAINST each other.

They test for everything.

These guys are not hack players.

They are really good.

I once watched Phil Steinmeir, lead programmer on H2 use diplomacy.

I was AMAZED. I said "how do you get EVERYTHING to join?!!"

He explained PART of the formula to me and he said it was way deeper than that. He said it even factored in spellpower.

Anyway if you don't like how these guys made the game that's ok, play with rules.

I mean they only spend 3 years working on the game. So what do they know about it?

They only get paid to make games for a living. What qualifies them?

Maybe they should come to your job and tell you how to do it?

But this is ToH and its A NO RULES LEAGUE and as Andi stated we now have no rule advocates on the HC.

So like it or not Vesuvius is sticking to his guns.

It is comical that so many people would want to play in the nets ONLY no rules league and still complain about the lack of rules.

Might as well go to McDonalds and complain that they are serving hamburgers.

ToH is the best league there is and the best you guys will ever be able to do is make this lil threads to try and show everyone that 3DO doesn't know how to make a game.

They made a perfect game. It's too bad you don't like it.

Flame away rulemakers. It will never change anything =)

ugh!  So much for leadership and luck!

ok, how about these:

- if you get good relics and opponent gets captain's hat and lev boots (on HG), you have to sacrifice the relics on the altar ... but not to your main hero.

- NO taking opponent's gold mine on DW.

- no joiners at all unless opponent has diplomat hero.

- if you have a tome of magic, no experts in that magic

- no armageddon at all unless opponent is conflux.

- you can have no more than 3 towns on 7-lakes, if you have more, you must give it to the cpu.

- if opponent has lower stats, you must take off artifacts so your stats are equal to his.

- absolutely NO chaining at all!

LOL ... if anyone plays or follows THESE rules, they deserve a loss.

hmm

well my english isnt perfect. maybe thats why most people answering in this thread mixed it up with a rule/norule thread.

defreni said it best.

everyone of us has little things/rules in a homm game he follows if ya like it or not . even mocara and woods

and i dont mean rules that are about the game and its strategies/heroes/tactics.

For example i know many 7 lakes players dont use gems summon boats spell. because they know it would spoil the fun.(although they play no rules at all )

about the no army combine in a 2o2 : i usually play without army combine becasue its no 2o2 then. When i give all troops to my ally i got nothing to fight with ,and if he gives me all he falls asleep and gets bored to death.
i dun think the 2o2 would be much fun for the 2 players without any army/arts and even towns.

Wahooo!

I am with you Salamandre

I know this will sound disrespectful to some, but those players that find themselves at the upper levels of the tournie usually do not need to play using pre-set rules.  They have the skills necessary to overcome most obstacles they encounter.

I mostly only ever play the top 20% of players and have very rarely encountered anyone who wishes to play with rules.  We almost always have a great game regardless.

See you on the battlefield.

Agreeing with Andi...

Why is it so hard for some people to accept that a good game can be had with rules in place? Dont you see that there are some people out there who think killing catapults sucks, or dropping an implo to kill 7 titans then running as a game spoiler? Some people out there enjoy playing this way, with these rules in place, and a lot of them are damn good players. Why is it so hard to accept another persons way of playing the game?

Well?

I can play with no rules, or many rules, it dont matter to me. I enjoy heroes in every form. Is that so hard to fathom? or even respect?

Play the game as you wish

Of course people can agree to play with pre-set rules.  That is the beauty of this game.  You can also play with unspoken "honourable" conventions.

For myself, I will not play with any rules and I will use any tactic possible to win.  That is just my way of playing.

Have Faith

For me rules have a limited place.  I know some cannot enjoy the game without them.  I know I cannot stand them.  There are those among you who have always adapted to the Heroes games.  We do not comprehend the propensity for rulemaking and will never enjoy it.  At times we will put up with it.  For us it is like ketchup on steak but I understand there are some who like that.

We are all of us great fans of the game and if I could have a wish for the game it would be that the players place a great trust in the gamemakers; it is a work of art; THEIR work of art.  Have faith. Keep an open mind.  Do not assume that when you are beaten that there was nothing you could do.  There is always something you could have done or could still do.  On the other hand, if you are tiring of winning easily play someone more difficult and see how strong the 'unfair' thing really is or isn't.  Do not be quick to discard what is difficult to counter.  We improve upon the game only through our hours of planning and battle seeing the game from every angle.  Then we improve the game through making quality maps.  Tournament play at the highest level requires great maps.  There are few who can make such maps.  There are many who believe they can but some cannot, usually because the greatest mysteries of strategic play have not yet been revealed to them.  I urge everyone to be critical of the maps you accept.  Try to play the game as it was made.  For unintended programming errors, we can petition for patches.

Many problems with spells/hit and run/artifacts/hero skills etc come not from the game design but from the design of many maps.  When a player comes to understand this then they have the chance to do something about it.  Make a good map!  Hopefully, with H4 we will see some great quality maps that will liberate our play and not compel us to create rules so that we may enjoy the bad maps.
