Hi!
I'm currently using wine to play Homm3 + Wog in linux and it runs fine, i really enjoy playing it using native resolution of my screen with HD patch. And to the point, i have few minor proposals/questions about latest version, the 2.98f.

1. Tavern, invite a hero - it seems a bit glued in, can it be made so that picture of a hero is centered and text "Invite a hero" are only seen on the statusbar? - this fits better how "Thieves Guild" and "Exit Tavern" buttons currently are.

2. I noticed new colored bar at the top of Mage Guild screen, it fits Town Hall and Castle screens better, except there's no title in Mage Guilds top bar, can a title "Guild" also be added on top of Mage Guilds screen?

3. I thought to ask if background should be dimmed when a Hero screen is opened, as it is done with Town or battle view, but then, i'm not sure if it will look more consistent that way, maybe not worth it.

4. I'm seeing a bug too - when Extended Adventure Manager is disabled, right click on a town picture doesn't bring up little square town popup, but a popup for some hidden adventure button instead - maybe it is wine related.

5. Info on resources on statusbar of a main window and a town view is not always synchronized making it a bit confusing at times. I do realize there's no source code for this game available, making it tricky to modify it without breaking something. Still, i'm really fascinated about patches made for the game so far, a lot of them truly enhance the gaming experience.

Homm3Wog with 2.98f launches noticeably quicker than with version 2.92u, though i had some issues with it when switching between other applications and a fullscreen game window in kde4, i configured my wine to launch the game in a virtual wine desktop to remedy this.

Nevertheless, this is one great patch, thank you a lot for creating it!

Hello, I want to ask if it is possible to make extended army manager work in WoG (if the stack experience option is turned off)
And the hero/town portrait rearranging isn't working in WoG (even if I turn the WoG option for this on/off)

Hi Baratorch,

Thank you so much for this patch - I've used it previously a year or so ago and it was great even then. I've just started getting back into Heroes3 again and I don't think I would be doing it if not for this mod!

I have a few bugs to report:
*The "Restart Scenario" Button in "Scenario Info" does not work (it simply closes the dialog instead) [If you get to the screen with the "I" hotkey instead of the UI button the "Restart Scenario" button works!]
*Bink video does not seem to be supported - Every time the game starts it resets the flag in the registry
*The intro story video does not play - or at least I cannot trigger more than the 3DO/NWC logos.
*"Pack.ini" - if the Newgame/Loadgame text is positioned > 127 on the x-axis it turns to a minus figure and disappears off the left-hand side of the menu. Presumably this is some sort of 8-bit limit on the value.

I also have a few feature requests (Oh No!):
*Display a Real Time Clock on the main adventure game screen (Maybe a bit of a challenge - but it will help to stop me playing into the early hours of the morning!)
*Add an intro movie button (or hotkey) from campaign select screen (i.e. RoE or AB intro) - would be great if the movie used could be adjusted with Pack.ini too
*Videos and Audio support for the HiRezData folder. I don't seem to be able to get the game to take either .wav, .bik or .smk files from this folder. They must be manually added to the .lod files. I would like this to include contents usually on the CD too - but I understand this may be an additional hurdle.

I am attempting to port the Heroes Chronicles Data to your SOD/Complete exe platform. I have created a Pack containing the new data and I have accomplished many of the necessary task already with a custom Pack.ini. There are a few things left to improve though.

As a result I have a few more requests for features via Pack.ini:

*Custom menus - For instance send the Main Menu "Load Game" button straight to the "Load Campaign" screen. If the default action of any button could be overridden in Pack.ini that would be brilliant
*Custom position for credits.bik/smk on Main Menu via Pack.ini (like you already have for buttons and NewGame/Loadgame text)
*Custom position for Campaign graphics - i.e. where the Scenario "Regions" appear in X,Y cooords (ArA_CoRe.bmp etc)
*Custom text for campaign screen (i.e. load in the Scenario names). These would also need to be repositionable.

There are a couple of other minor things but I have bothered you with enough already. I understand you are probably very busy with 3.0 (I looked through the new feature list and it looks awesome) - If you want some more details from me you can contact me at the email address in my profile.

Sorry baratorch - A few more ideas in my head for possible improvements/additional customisation. Ignore if needs be!

* Custom Loading bar (loadbar.def) position (via pack.ini)
* Be able to swap "Arrow Keys – Moves current hero" and "Ctrl + Arrow Keys – Scrolls Adventure Map" functionality via HiRez.ini (I don't move with the keyboard and I am used to SC2 controls now...)
* Be able to swap "[Enter]" and "[Shift] + [Enter]" behaviour on hero exchange screen in HiRez.ini (i.e. defaults to the hero you had control of before entering the exchange screen, rather than swapping by default)
* "Delete this army" prompt on [ALT] + [SHIFT] + click on a creature stack - Change "this army" to "these creatures" or "this stack of creatures"?
* Character exchange screen - replace ok and cancel buttons with new <- and -> buttons to make their function clearer (Or maybe other graphics would be better) [see below for examples]
* Add hotkeys for 'dimension door boundary' and 'replay turn' options from the middle mouse button menu
* Hire All/'Best I Can afford' button in castle (and main town screen?) (+Hotkeys) [I believe there is a mod that does this already?]
* Load/Save favourite starting hero/bonus per town (+Hotkeys)
* Save/Load/AutoLoad favourite town (Autoload favourite hero/bonus for that town too) (+Hotkeys)
* When creatures are recruited and you have multiple stacks - add the units to the largest stack, not the first.
* "Mods" folder in HiRezData - like Packs but you can enable more than one (With priority?)

i think i might have found a bug

my friend and i have the latest version 2.98f

we playing a game online as allies

he dug for the grail, and got the grail.   after ending his turn, the hole dissapeared, and he never had the grail in his backup


his backpack did have a lot in it, although not sure if it was 'full'. regardless though, in the past, it didn't let u dig w/ a full backpack so i'm assuming nothing changed with that.


thoughts?  why the empty hole after a successful grail dig and no grail in backpack?

If you want the battle screen, town info etc. to be displayed full screen (or near enough) you can use these resolutions (as well as the 32-bit MMX color mode) and the game will scale to your desktop resolution. These resolutions ensure 1:1 pixel aspect ratio (before scaling) for your desktop.

An example of what happens with the original 800x600 game on my widescreen monitor:

Few problems

Greetings to you all with big thanks to the creator of HD modification. It really is an awesome idea, altough I didn't really needed it until I got my new laptop with widescreen resolution...

I'm playing up-to-date WOG over Complete - no other modifications - on Windows 7.
There were no problems with the installation and it seemed like everything was working fine for me... But then I noticed some complications.

The first thing is I can no longer hit "Space" to re-visit the square my hero is standing on. How is that? All of you other guys can do that normally?
EDIT: During the writing of this post, I was testing the gameplay further and this particular bug disappeared.

Then there are many troubles connected to WOG interface.
1) I cannot access my commander screen. I can hire them and use them in fights, but cannot see their skills or give them artifacts. It was mentioned here already and stated that the trouble may be in WOG options. Well, no, it is not in WOG options, simply because other than the commander screen, everything else works fine with the commanders, but also because...
2) There is ABSOLUTELY NO WOG OPTIONS MENU when starting a new game. That could be a problem, right?
3) I can't see the exact number of creatures available to hire in dwellings. This is a pain in the ass as I love the WOG option to accumulate them and hire them from time to time... Now I just see the name of the dwelling and who is the owner when right-clicking.
4) Right clicking the icons like kingdom overview or options doesn't give the proper WOG reaction now. As in, in WOG, you could see the amount of mithril by right clicking KO. Now I can't. I can't right click anything. Which is weird, because I can still use my mithril to improve towns and I can still access other WOG buttons like "bank loans" and such... Other WOG improvements like hidden skills, improved skills, experience for stacks etc. work just fine, it seems.
5) I cannot ctrl-click a town in adventure mode to buy all creatures. This may be because HD mod brought ctrl and shift clicking possibility to organize towns and heroes, thus replacing the quick buy all creatures option.

Also, the game seems to crash a little bit more often now. But that could have been a coincidence.

I don't know if this is all I am going to find troubling me. Until I find out the solution to these problems, I guess I have to stick to 800x600, because starting the game in non-HD to set my WOG options, then playing HD, then saving and loading in non-HD just to see how much mithril I have, to see how many creatures dwell in a dwelling or to give my commander an artifact... that is not really viable.

Hd Mod Crash in Horn of the Abyss

Hello to everybody!
I've recently downloaded a BETA VERSION of the ADD-ON Horn of the Abyss, which includes only 1 new town PIRATE TOWN and it's in russian but it's easy to figure out. The problem is that if I want to play it in the HD Mod as soon as I want to take the hero out from the town the game crashes.
Any Ideas?

A few more bugs to report:
* Adventure Screen - Scenario Information : When the video ends and you are returned to the Scenario Information dialog - the video and subtitles are still in the background rather than returning to the adventure map
* In 800x600 mode:
   > Right clicking on your first town on the adventure map show the "view world" button dialog
     doing the same on the second town shows the "Replay Opponent Turn" button dialog ...etc
     (Not sure what happens on the fith town as I dont have an appropriate save).
   > Shift clicking on character portraits only works correctly if the list is scrolled all the way to the top (ctrl clicking works incorrectly too)
   > Rightclicking on creatures in the sidebar - the dialog is cut off at the bottom as it is displayed relative to the sidebar position

Maybe you could also incorporate GrayFace's Synchronised creature sound fix: [url]http://sites.google.com/site/sergroj/wog#TOC-Synchronized-Creatures-Sounds[/url]? It would sit well alongside your graphical fixes.

Dual Monitors

Ok, I really had to register for this one after being a long-time lurker on this board. Due to the shocking low quality of games these days, I reinstalled the GoG version of Homm3 Complete and now found your cool mod.

Unfortunately, it is not working perfectly for me. I have two monitors attached to my PC. With the second one to the left of the main monitor. Every time I move my mouse to the left, the mouse arrow moves out off the Heroes screen.

Is it possible to run the HD version in Fullscreen mode to prevent this?

Ya I have this same problem, it's very annoying.  I found if you put your cursor right on the edge of the screen without moving to your second monitor you can scroll over still.  It's still annoying, but its better then having to move your screen on the mini map all the time.

I like not having it in full screen though, maybe adding binds to the arrow keys to move around the map would help solve that problem?


I'm also getting a ton of Save files generating while i'm playing, i'm not sure if this is normal or not.  After only a few hours of playing I get like 30 of them.  I'm assuming this is the auto save, but why is it generating a new instance for everyone?  Shouldn't it just overwrite the last auto save?

Play it on one monitor, it is not World of Warcraft.

Autosave is generated every day and does not replace older, due to many players demand. An improvement.

We are playing it on one monitor, but if you have two monitors your mouse cursor will cross over to your other screen instead of panning the map camera.  Because even though it's fullscreen, it's still windowed mode.


Ok so it's normal to see a ton of "Player vs Computer xxx" files?  Just wanted to make sure because it took me by surprise when I saw so many for the first time.

In the setup.exe switch the game to complete and it should fix it
