All the in-game 3D models look waaaaaaay better than the concept arts... I wonder, who the concept artist is. He should be made pay damages to Ubihole for making their game look ugly/silly/bad. And to us, for all the fear his pictures caused.

My precious opinion about today's screen shots

Necropolis catapult is really cool, but I'll demand to know of what it is a some point. I guess I'm the only one that think the Lamasu looks funny in that picture, but I assume it's just being seen from a strange angle.
The ghost however looks really nice in this shoot.

About the Haven units, The upgraded griffin look perfect. The Sun Crusader also very cool but the iron halo is bad, very bad imo.
The catapult looks a bit too much, but that's okay since it fits so well with the other Haven units.

When can we expect another update of the official site? Anytime soon...???

There were future dates leaked on the official site (not sure if in error) mentioning that tomorrow Friday 4th there'll be an update of the site and Q&A video / text (the Q&A should be long as have to answer a %&$#load of questions!!!!)

New screenshot looks good with snow & orcs! Are those two dwellings near the castle? The steps look cool (similar to necro boss screenshot!) and the map is full of stuff! Thanks Ubisoft!

Still no floor design under the orc creature stacks.....

Inferno creatures now have rings underneath them, but Stronghold creatures don't have them yet.
According to Xhane "Townscreens are not final yet. We'll show them to you as soon as we can. "
Too bad. I was hoping to see town screens next week.

Anyways, I loved the new screenshot. The map doesn't look so empty now

Ok, this doesn't sound so well. They either plan to delay the game or it's gonna be buggy. Or they've decided to really not care about the town screens.

Delaying the game actually sounds good to me. More time to work on it, the better it's going to be. I always felt that the time they had to make it was too short.

Yeah, they better work their asses off to present us with something that will compensate us for not having the 3D awesomeness of H5 town screens or, well, uhm... I'm gonna be whinning about it like 24/7!

Personally, I won't really miss the HV town screens; while they were nice they were also very cluttered and it was difficult to find any of the structures on them. 2D town screens will suit me just fine.

I'd be fine with a delay of the game to finesse it; the only thing is that the final product had better be worth the delay, especially with so few existing factions; the fewest we've ever had in a Heroes game since HI. I trust that they can make a great game even with five towns, but having so few towns means that I expect everything to be well polished.

Yeah, yeah, I heard that argument alot of times. Look, I'm commenting on the looks alone, not on functionality. I don't mind navigating the town through a UI anyway. They better look as impressive and awe-inspiring and unique each of them as the town screens of H5. H3 and H2 town screens were good, but just that: Good. H4's were a failure. They said they're gonna look like H3 and H4 town screens and that has me worried. I seriously doubt they can deliver.

I kind of agree on this one the H5 towns wear a sweet addition, but do to the fact that is not essential to the game I guess I could live without it in H6,still while making a 2D town screen the games to take inspiration from are H3 and Disciples 2 (I loved the Elven town from the addon especially the Theurgist building) but should be avoided I repeat avoided the H4 design pure and simply horrible still find it hard to swallow when I play the game just can't get used to it.

The really good thing about the 2d townscreens were the perspective they had. I could sit there and dream of the screen, letting my fantasies take me away for several minutes while playing.

On the other hand, the 3d townscreens gave more focus on the town itself. Because of that, all the towns in H5 were centered in the middle, with the camera circling around it. This were more logical than looking into the far away snowy mountains in a town that were really laying in the desert. Just an example...

Heroes 5 town screens were by far the best looking of the serie. Anyone who in one breath complains that "they didn't like Heroes 5 screens because they couldn't find dwellings" and the next that "Heroes 5 town screen took too long to load" seriously doesn't make sense to me - whatever time Heroes 5 town screens took to load you saved 10 times by using the direct purchase screen - similar to castle purchase screen from Heroes 3. If you buy creatures direct from dwellings, clearly time efficiency is not an issue for you.

I myself is very sad to see the 3-D town screens gone, and I'm apalled at the mere thought of having something just remotely similar to the abysmal H4 town screens. H3 ones work well at their time, but I find it hard to believe that 2-D screens will not look like a step-back compared to H5 ones.

I didn't like the H5 town screens simply because they were useless. They were simply wasted memory in my game and lost development time they could have spent elsewhere (like making us a better map editor).

Seriously, it was cool the first time, maybe the second time too, and you were letting the camera travel for a long time, but the subsequent times, you were just clicking to stop it and do what you had to do in your city. The "ooooooh" factor faded very fast and you ended up with something that was not needed at all.

Until you got to miss them and the wow factor then would return.
Today, I installed H5 again after a long time, the first thing I got to do once in game, was to gaze and marvel at the Screens again.

Agreed.  For those of us who don't have Gaming Computers, having a town screen that doesn't use more RAM than the adventure map is a definite plus.

As for the 2d town screens, I suspect we'll be seeing something from a fixed angle, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be rendered in 3D.  I always felt that the thing that took the most of my computer's energy was the fly-through of the town; it takes a lot less RAM to have the camera in one spot, not moving, than it does to move the camera through and around the architecture.  And when that fly-through doesn't actually add anything to the game itself, as a designer you have to question whether it's worth keeping.  Happily, they've decided that it's not.

You need to buy something in H5? You have buttons that take you to the window to buy the creatures/heroes/buildings/whatever.

I can't believe you buy the creatures in heroes 3 by clicking on each of the creatures' building.

I don't, but I enjoy being able to see where each creature comes from, which wasn't possible with all of the Heroes V towns. Some were very impressive looking, but others looked very incoherent or implausible.

I don't dislike Heroes V town screens, they're gorgeous, but the screens reverting to 2D isn't going to be a dealbreaker for me. Heroes III's townscreens are beautiful; if not as impressive as Heroes V's, they are still absolutely captivating. I expect Heroes VI's 2D screens to be just as impressive.

I really did love the H5 3D townscreens but really, I only thought that 3 of them were really beautiful (Sylvan, Academy and maybe Haven).

In H3, I thought all the town screens with their awesome music looked FANTASTIC!

Unlike H4, the buildings really fitted together and the whole H3 towns felt very coherent.
I think H3 Rampart is the best looking town in all of Heroes. The dragons flying around the Dragon Cliffs makes it feel very alive too. For H6, I hope that they will have actual creatures walking around their dwellings in the towns, just like the H3 Rampart dragons flew around their dwelling.
Technically, it is a step back to go from 3D to 2D - but they could add more things to 2D town screens to make them different from those in the previous games.

I also agree with everyone saying that the first times, the fly-over on the H5 towns were beautiful but in the end, it was just annoying to have to wait several seconds to enter the town, cancel the flyover, and quickly do your business in the town. In the end, making 3D town screens was just a waste when the old 2D screens (NOT H4) looked just as beautiful.

We already have concept art of how the H6 Necro townscreen may look like.

Its also funny because in H3, I often click on all dwellings to buy creatures and in H5 I just go to the "Hire all creatures" button. I remember in the H5 "beta", that when you hired creatures, they also stood next to each other in some hallway.
That would also be cool for H6.

If your PC could not handle a 3D Town Screen then it would struggle through the rest of the game too. But you can't expect a new game to come with less requirement so that older computers can play it.
