Quote: Karanshade where did you get that info from? I find that highly doubtful.... removing the tactics phase entirely would be prepostrous. Many factions rely on good positioning simply having your troops placed at random would be boaderline idiotic. Ubi couldn't possibly have made it so... tactics in itself give the player that has it an advantage just as it should like this it'll be paramount to get the skill and the one that has it will have an significant advantage over the other player without having to work for it. Nonononooo I'm sure they haven't removed the tactics phase...
Do our esteemed VIPs have any info on this?
I don't remember this, but I did see the information that Karanshade quotes in one of the recent news update, so it's not just something he's gotten out of nowhere or misunderstood.
And yeah, I think it's a very poor decision. Having to spend a (now apparantly very precious) skill point on something that should be an elementary part of every tactical (duh) game seems silly. Back in H3, I felt that using a whole skill slot on tactics was not really worth it when fighting the AI, but on the other hand I hated not being able to place my units. H5 version was much better, Tactics slot offered an extra row (so as to accomodate large units) but you could still place your units even without that perk. This seems a step in the wrong direction.

Something just struck me, lots of people might have already figured this out, or it was so blatantly obvious that no body bothered.
Heck I might myself have thought about it before about a year ago but forgotten about it since.
But how do creature pools interact between different types of town owned by the same player?
And seeing as you can spread your pool over just say 2 out of 3 core creatures and ignore the third, then having a cross faction town can still allow you to tap out the entire creature pool of that town (presuming they are seperate) in one stack.
That would get you some really nice creature mixes.
Edit: Also, presumably with the "good/evil" faction system gone now (at least I presume so with 5 factions, that or there's 2 good and 2 evil and 1 neutral) does that mean any faction will combine equally well (or poorly) with any other faction?
Like say, Haven and Stronghold combine just as well as Haven and Inferno?
Because in HoMMV, Haven/Sylvan creatures could get along reasonably well but Haven/Inferno caused MASSIVE morale penalties.
Edit2: would be interesting to come up with cool cross-faction core and elite combos.

If you saw the gamestar video you should have noticed that a tactics phase was missing. And I'm fine with that, you are not playing H5 anymore. You won't be charging the opponent with 3 offensive stacks on the very first action. Only reason H5 was so affected by obstacles was because many units had 7-8 speed (possibly with tactics/swiftness), as such obstacles could make or break your game which is no longer the case.

Hello all,
Sad news for the fans today: the release of the game is postponed to September 8 this year.
We want more time to the development team to complete the game
If you were expecting a good game, you'll have a very good game
If you are expecting a very good game, you'll have an excellent game
If you are expecting a great game, you'll have a masterpiece.

Well... there goes my delicate free time schedule.... really wanted to play it this summer.
I wish they'd at least tell us some of the reasons why they delayed it, what they want to improve during that 3 month extra time.

The news is correct.
As far as I'm concerned, this is by FAR the best news that has been revealed all year about Heroes VI, because it means the game will reach its true potential. September is an even better final release date than I ever expected. Truth be told, most of us (VIPs) were highly worried about the June release because from what we saw, it would inevitably have meant sacrificing a LOT of the game's quality just to ship it out in a hurry.
I am absolutely beyond delighted that it's been postponed. I know and understand that you guys probably aren't - just another letdown/inconvenience - but please trust me, the extra time will be worth it
Nay-sayers can also take heart, because the developers no longer have a "we ran out of time" excuse (j/k)

Two months!? That's a rather long extra time. I wonder what is taking so long *hopes for suprise sixth Faceless faction and real town screens*
That interview was really cool though. I really love the idea that some spells interact with each other (using a water spell increases the damage of a lightning spell etc).
But they seriously need to give us some news soon. Its been like 2-3 weeeks since we had real news and you can really notice that on these forums (*cough* female vs male threa *cough*)
And why is the beta delaye? Because its to buggy? Well, the purpose of the beta is that we are supposed to live with those bugs and fix them.
Pushing the game to September is kin of annoying to me, because I really looked forward to get going in multiplayer H6 in the summer break. I guess its ok though if they are fixing something really serious. And it will be fine if the beta is coming out soon and I am very sure that we will be able to test multiplayer in the beta. Looking forward to that. ^^

Disappointed (yeah I'd rather play the game now than tomorrow!), but very happy about that choice I rather play a good game than a bugplagued game like H4/H5 were at their release. I'm rather glad that Ubisoft accepted to postpone the game (which they rarely do!)

We wanted big news today. I guess this qualifies as it
Anyhow if they feel more time is needed, I'm all for it. Hopefully in that extra 3 months there is lot of new decisions regarding ideas about some game elements.
I'm pretty sure this (among else) also means better town screens (just art wise, not technical-wise)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Anyhow, back to generic H6 thread random discussion .
To add onto creature pool stuff. Is it 100% that there is same pool from which you recruit all core creatures?
Here are few of my random thoughts about it. Keep in mind that it includes 2 assumptions which if proven wrong render the complaint useless.
1st premise - shared pool for all core creatures. In haven's example it would mean shared pool for priestesses/marksmen/sentinels
2nd premise - might/magic hero stats boosting appropriate unit stats. let's say we have a might hero.
Issue at hand - From what i gather might hero will mostly improve their might attack and might defense stats (at least compared to magic ones), which in turn affect the stats on sentinels and marksmen, while making sisters fall behind in stats.
My worry is that after few levels there one unit of certain level will become too good compared to other one, simply by the fact that it's stats got boosted while other one's weren't. In aforementioned case I'm worried that might heroes will ignore sisters while magic ones might actually prefer them - which in end would turn into 3-5 creature armies which would resemble H4 ultimate choice a tad too much. But hey - it might work out.

Guys, don't get confused between "tactics phase" (beginning of battle) and "tactics" (skill making your troops start further forward).....
Tactics phase has been removed. Tactics stays (which includes tactics phase ability).
Tactics might not be as important as it was in H5, because of the initiative system gone....

Words cannot express my relief, this is the best news I didn't know I could hope for! I am sorry you will have to wait so long but you won't regret it H6 has immense potential and some content could be in jeopardy if not present for the start, patching can only do so much. Also these extra months could give us the opportunity to create more maps, I am already planning one or two
