@Shyranis

Sorry, there is not one shred of evidence at all that Palin did not know Africa is a continent. The only evidence we have is that liberal loons launched a hoax to smear her. And yes, some of those liberal loons were on the somewhat liberal McCain's advisory staff. His liberal loon advisors wanted him to pick a liberal loon for a running mate and not a conservtive.

Now, we do know for a fact that the imbecile Obama did not know how many states make up the United States.

Clicky

Also, Obama seems to lack the intelligence to speak properly unless he is reading from a teleprompter. A huge list could be made of Obama's gaffes and it is well known that if the teleprompter goes down his speech is relegated to bacisly uhhhh, ummmmm. errrrrrrrr...

Talk about focusing on a nonissue.

(1) The President probably gives what maybe 500 officially recorded statements every year (that's a total guess).  I assure you that if you gave that many recorded statements, I could go through and find a reasonably large number of slips-of-the-tongue, stutters or misstatements that make you look like a complete moron.

(2) Do you seriously expect the President to memorize every speech he gives?  Is it really that shocking that when the telepromter goes down, it throws him off a little bit?  Frankly, if the telepromter really did malfunction, I'm impressed at how well he did NOT lose his cool.  I wonder, if you were speaking in front of CNN, and your teleprompter went down, how well would YOU do?

Come on, people, focus on issues.  Criticize Obama for his policies (and god knows he deserves it), but if there's one thing he isn't, it's a bad public speaker.  Even Palin, whose voice makes my skin crawl every time I hear it, knows exactly the right way to speak to her audiences.

I never said Palin was stupid or that she actually believed such things, only that your NY Times link didn't actually say it was all made up. Only that people took credit for it.

Never said Obama was smart either.

I DID give him a year to try to improve things. Then he lost the benefit of the doubt I tend to give all elected politicians in their first year. Same one I gave to Bush and was too young to care politically about Clinton or Bush Sr.

Unlike some others that jumped straight to name calling. but perhaps that's just the nature of highly spirited, emotion based discourse.

The kind of discourse that is hijacking the Tea Party from responsible conservatives to government overinflaters less responsible types. (I'm Hijacking this thread back to the topic!)

Elodin,

Idk if we can discard EVERYTHING, say it's a hoax or anything. Even if what you said about that Africa thing was true (and it's the most famous), there are loads of others you just can't simply ignore or dismiss as lies because one of them is (even if it is.)

Why doesn't another politician - except from Bush - have such idiocy tag plastered on the forhead? Do you really believe Palin was such a danger to the opposing party that a hoax-campaign was launched to diminish the threat? The woman was never a serious politician anyway, you can just listen to her live and notice she's not really bright - outside the quotes if you find their origins dubious. Do you think democrats would waste their time demeaning someone that's already not important and leaving the rest intact?

Idk, seems like bad logic to me.

The Tea Party has won a great victory for America! Marxists have lost control of the House, losing a remarkable number of seats. They also lost seats in the Senate and lost governorships of states. The Republicans can now prevent the Marxists from doing more harm to the nation unless Marxists manage to pass more bills before the transfer of power. But that would require more politicians sacrificing their carreers, which I don't think will happen. If the Republicans can get cooperation from a few dems in the Senate they'll be able to start undoing some of the harm the Marxists have done.

Woot!  Today is a day for much celebrating!

Anybody have the voting percentage for this?

What I find a little discomforting is the obvious parting of the country in two. Big city folk from both shores voted democrats to almost unmatched victory while the more rural areas voted the republicans to the same kind of victory. Those ares with the population more evenly distributed between bigger cities and the rest are on even terms.

If the voting percentage was low then that's no wonder and it'll just mean most don't give a snow anymore but if the percentage was high then we're seeing a nation with it's people divided in two.

BTW. It seems this whole tea-party opposes the average republican line pretty much all along the line. So wouldn't it be more reasonalbe if it really parted to it's own party? I get the whole losing votes and power but it would make sense from ideological standpoint, would it not?

It's a 2-party system.  A 3-party system would probably cause nation-wide head exploding.

I don't know why you find it discomforting about the voting division.  It's a natural product of redistricting.

Yeah but there isn't any legal obstacles for forming a third party is there?

There aren't any that I'm aware of.  However, we are so hard-wired to believe that only a Democrat or Republican really has a shot at winning, most people don't feel it's worth throwing a vote away on an Independent, Green Party member, Libertarian, etc, etc.  It does happen but I don't seem them organizing to the point where they can become a lasting political party.

It reminds me of this clip from The Simpson's.  I'd like a clip but God-forbid someone post a clip without a copyright violation threat.

"What are you going to do? It's a two-party system. You have to vote for one of us!"
"Well I believe I'll vote for a third party!"
"Go ahead! Throw your vote away! Hahahah!"

They'd only need a few charismatic leaders with real credibility and they could pull it off. They've got enough media attention. A few nice striking it's time to change this system and voila! They'd be a real player.

I remember that episode btw.

Regarding the divided nation. Of course the division itself isn't discomforting, it's just natural. But the way they are divided. It's almost like a class society. Normally votes are divided roughly equally, some places being stronger with others and some others. The current one is quite black and white. they aren't 60/40, they're 80/20. If this was the 19th century you'd be looking at a nation being ready to be ripped apart in a civil war for the slightest possible spark.

No, teenagers often do stupid stuff. She said she dabbled in witchcraft as a teen but has cast that aside and says she became a Christian. Of course you failed to mention that part. Not deliberate, I'm sure.

Speaking to Republican picnic-goers, the insurgent Tea Party candidate said she didn't doing anything differently than lots of kids at that age.

"I was in high school, how many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school? But no, there's been no witchcraft since," she said, shrugging off her dalliances with the dark arts.

On the other hand, Obama hung out with Marxists and did lines of cocaine and smoked weed. He has continued to hang out with Marxists (and appoint them to political office.) We really don't know if he has continued his drug habit since there are unfortunately no random drug tests of Congress or the White House.

Obama and coke

Obama sought out Marxists, enthusiastic drug use

Voter turnout was high. The American people overwhelmingly rejected Marxism. The Tea Party is basicly forcing a cleansing of the Republican Party. Smaller, less intrusive government, low taxes, states rights.

The democrat party will have to become a more centralist party rather than a radically left party if it wishes to compete.
