Here's some context for you.

Number of times president Reagan invoked executive privilege:  3.

Number of times president H.W. Bush invoked executive privilege:  1.

Number of times president Clinton invoked executive privilege:  14.

Number of times president Bush invoked executive privilege:  6.

Xerox, not all of us hate the choices we have.  I for one like Obama and think he's done a helluva job.  That doesn't mean I haven't been critical of him at times.  It means just that.  He's a fine president and will hopefully be able to accomplish greater things as he strides into his second term.

It is congress that I have the most loathing.  They're the biggest bunch of mother snowing piece of snow obstructionists I've ever seen in my life.  If it wasn't the democrats snowing up healthcare reform, it was the republicans with everyone mother snowing other thing.

These mother snowers aren't do-nothing congress out of some principled stand against the president's policies  They've sat on their mother snowing asses for the last three years because they will do whatever it takes to make president Obama a one term president, as said by minority leader snow McConnell.

To Corribus and Omega.  When and if you go to cast your ballot to vote for Romney or Paul or the Virgin Mary just because you want to be funny, and you're grabbing your wallet, and your keys, and your other valuables, I strongly recommend you include a clothespin as part of that list.

You'll regret it later if you don't.

I think I could agree with Gootch's assessment of Congress.  The first three words that come to mind when talking about them is "crusty old farts".  Here's an interesting chart that shows just how geriatric our legislature has gotten.

Obama's attempt to protect illegal aliens suffered a severe blow today as the Supreme Court ruled on Obama's fight with Arizona. 11 of the 14 sections of Arizona's S.B. 1070 (bill dealing with immigration) have been upheld.

However, the below article also goes on to note that hours after the ruling Obama's administration announced suspension of even more enforcement of US federal immigration law. Will this be a hot issue in the US where so many people are out of work?

Clicky

Quote:

Although headlines have focused on the court knocking down three of four provisions before it, it should be noted that S.B. 1070 began with 14 sections.  After all the challenges at several court levels, 11 of those sections are still standing – and the court today ruled against only half of the twelfth.  The one that was cleared today by the Court was the right of police to question people about their immigration status.  This may be the most important provision in causing illegal aliens to leave Arizona, judging by the frenzy of concerned reaction by the pro-amnesty forces and the Obama administration.

We have always regarded S.B. 1070 as supplementary to the far more important, earlier Arizona bill that requires every employer to use E-Verify to keep illegal aliens and tourists from taking jobs. The Obama administration also opposed this effort, but the Court last year entirely upheld the right of states to protect its workers in that way.

Combining the two rulings, Arizona now has the Supreme Court-approved model to show all other states that they don’t have to sit idly by while an estimated 7 million illegal aliens take U.S. jobs in construction, manufacturing, service, transportation and even some in the professions. These are the occupations  where most of the 20 million Americans who are unemployed or forced into part-time work are also seeking a job.

Quote:

As if to underscore Scalia’s assessment of the current administration as a nullifier of congressionally-passed laws, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano only hours after the ruling, announced that she would suspend yet another enforcement required under federal immigration laws.  Because the Court ruling will result in a lot more illegal aliens being brought to the attention of the feds, she said, her department will suspend the 287(g) program in Arizona, and pledged that nothing in the ruling will interfere with the administrative amnesty announced last week.

Nice way to spin it, but the Arizona decision pretty much declawed the law.  It has no teeth any longer.

Which is a shame.  I'm not sure how border states are supposed to protect themselves if the fed gov't won't do it and the SC won't let the states do it.  But it was still probably the correct interpretation of current law.

EDIT: Scalia's dissent is totally worth a read, though.

Obama has failed in his attempt to stop Florida from removing illegal aliens from the voting roles. Tomorrow the Supreme Court is set to give its ruling on Obamacare. Also, some dems up for reelection are set to join with the Republicans in a contmpt vote for Holder.

A federal judge has refused to stop Florida from removing potentially non-U.S. citizens from its rolls.

The U.S. Department of Justice sued the state to halt the purge, arguing it was going on too close to a federal election.

U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle said Wednesday that there was nothing in federal voting laws that prevent the state from identifying non-U.S. citizens even if it comes less than 90 days before the Aug. 14 election.

Hinkle ruled that federal laws are designed to block states from removing eligible voters close to an election. He said they are not designed to stop states from blocking voters who should have never been allowed to cast ballots in the first place.

Gov. Rick Scott praised Hinkle's decision, saying "irreparable harm will result if non-citizens are allowed to vote."

It is nice to make fun of enforcing the border and all, but the fact is the federal government is allowing US citizens to die rather than enforcing the border. It is the job of the federal government to protect the US citizens from all enemies, foreign and domestic and the feds are refusing to do their job under Obuma.

Mexican cartel violence is more and more on the US side of the border. Of course liberals for the most part don't care as long as they can get and keep the illegal alien on the ballots, it seems.

America welcomes people who come to the US through legal channels. America should not tolerate illegal border crossings.

Cartel violence is the result of the vast American demand for drugs combined with the continued American conservative's stance that ensures that every penny of profit in the drug trade ends up in the hands of desperate violent men.  There's absolutely no way that you can pin this on the leftists.

Cartel violence on the US side of the border is the fault of the federal government, which refuses to enforce the immigration law and to protect the border. Border states are being saddled with all sorts of costs as a result.

Rape is not caused by laws against rape. Drug running is not caused by laws against drug running. People who use drugs typically are not conservatives. Don't blame conservatives if some liberals are lawbreakers with an unquenchable need for drugs. Oh, and drugs are used world-wide, not just in the US.

Texas has started using gunboats to patrol the Rio Grande because of all the drug violence.

Clicky

Quote:

The narrow and winding Rio Grande, meanwhile, is a hotbed of activity, since you can literally swim from one side to the other in just a few minutes. Officials say this makes it extremely enticing for smugglers, which is why authorities have to be one step ahead.

It’s why the Texas Department of Public Safety has rolled out the big guns: Four new “shallow water interceptors” are now patrolling the river, and two others will be commissioned soon. Those will be responsible for guarding the intercoastal waterway, where cops are seeing a spike in smuggling activity through the Gulf of Mexico.

These gunboats are outfitted with bullet-proof panels, fully automatic machine guns and 900-horsepower engines. Their ability to cruise through the water at fast speeds is designed to not only serve as an intimidating force on the water, but also to fight back.

“If we get into an ambush situation, our No. 1 priority is to get out of harm’s way,” said Lt. Charlie Goble of the Texas Highway Patrol’s Tactical Marine Unit. “It’s very important for us to be better armed than they are.”

The simple truth is, that as a country the US (and not the US alone)are just too stupid to face the simple truths, even though prohibition should have taught them a lesson in organized crime and how it develops.

It's long known that about 50% of all the risk factors for drug addiction are genetically predetermined. A drug addict is not a criminal, they are suffering from a disease and should treated that way.

All the problems in connections with drugs are self-induced.
