I don't know, but they scored more points than any Irish entry in the past ten years.

Lol such crappy results!
Azerbaijan seriously?
Considering how even it was, I think it's safe to assume that there where a lot bad songs this year...
And that Sweden got a 3th place with our awful song it's just sad. :/

There WERE a lot of awful songs, and even though I still think Swedens song had some of the most awful lyrics ever (and he's a crappy singer), it was actually one of the better entries. Deffinitely the results reflect that there was no strong winner to take home the victory.
I though Azerbaijans entry was very borin. The Italian entry which ended up #2 (I think) was completely out of place, I guess it got votes from the musical juries? Lot of friendly votes in different regions, so boring with that. Perhaps we should try to make it anonymous which country brings what to prevent that!
I thought Estonias entry was a very nice song with a quirky choreography, so they got my vote, but ended up 2nd to last.

Haha I agree, I hadn't seen anything before hand. (only half of the Swedish one.)
But pretty much the only ones I did like was Estonia, Moldavia and dare I say... France?
Estonia's were particularly nice since it look very good, the song itself had nice turns as it moved out from the same old chorus many times. (something eurovision songs tend to fail at )
The singer was also cute!

2012 really IS the end, Eurovision will take place in Asia! O_o
Overall, Eurovision actually wasn't AS BAD as I expected, but not great either. I don't mind Azerbaijan, but their song was just a usual calm pop song that plays in the background while you're popping the popcorn bag open.
Sweden was erm, energetic and, optimistic
My favourites were:
Estonia - Getter Jaani is so cute and the song was candy lickin nice.
Lithuania - Yay, Lithuania, yay, Polish singer, yay, sign language, yay, an actually decent song and voice
Moldova - the monocycle lady could drive me anywhere, and I loved the attitude and song in general.
Germany - Lena is AMAIZING, WUNDERBAR! She was the best (or in top 3) vocally, and guarded her last year's victory with style. Marina Diamandis' long lost twin. I actually hope she reaches worldwide career soon.
Georgia! - That girl sure made a smashing final to EV, I hoped she'd win.
Serbia - a nice 50s touch and NATIVE LANGUAGE!
Ukraine - song didn't impress me, but the amazing Ukrainian X-Factor winner's presence was raising it up a mile.

My personal top three of the entire festival (Austria, Serbia and France) all scored reasonably low spots which is frustrating, admittedly. Similarly, some really good (or pleasant) songs got robbed and put in the second half of the ranking. I absolutely LOVED the bottom 2 (Switzerland/Estonia) >__<
The Azerbaijani winner is indeed somewhat boring, but it is a fairly pleasant song (if cliche and fabricated) and both singers could sing well, so I am not complaining. Imo better than both Lena and Fairytale.
My main issue with this edition is that many songs undeservedly got tons of points. Greece, Sweden, Moldova, Ukraine are all countries that only got that far due to a combination of an over-the-top act + the nessecairy rabid diaspora fanbases to ensure a high overal ranking. (Honestly, it could have been MUCH worse had Turkey and Armenia qualified O__O)
Also WTF @ the *BORING* Italian Entry getting 2nd place O__O
At least I got the satisfactorily low results for the Russian douchebag (am I the only one who wanted to punch him in the face during his preformance tonight?), and Germany getting some appreciation (Honestly, I understand why people disliked it, but it gets better during re-listening. I like it a lot and actually prefer it to Satelite)

I actually think both Greece and Sweden had pretty catchy songs. Like I said, if you try (it's hard!) to completely ignore the lyrics and close your eyes and not see the singer, the music to the Swedish song is really catchy - and it's deffinitely one you can sing after one or two listens. Just too bad about the horrid lyrics. Same with Greece - the rap was horrible, and yes, they get friend votes from Malta and others, but it was actually a pretty good song.
As for the Italian one, it must be the jurys that voted it up, because it was "good" music. It was just completely out of place in this competition.
And wtf. happened for Boznia-Hercegovina which had the most HORRIBLE entry and still got in top 10?

Italy was boring as hell. Definitely not my kind of music - I prefer songs that have more rhythm and are more upbeat.
I personally liked Bosnia. Should I explain why?

Okay then. First off however, I feel I need to say that Bosnia is not my favo song of the competition and probably would not have put it in the TOP 10 myself... but I still like it regardless.
I think the first reason why I like it so much is because of the "message" or rather: meaning of the song. It is a life's reflection of an artist who, after spending years of singing and doing the things he truly cares for, can say he is truly proud of what he has accomplished in his life and wonders whether the world will remember him the same.
I feel the song and the music fit perfectly with the message Dino Merlin is trying to bring: It is a tad melancholic, but there's also pride and joy to be found in the music. It is emotional, laidback and up-close-and-personal. It is not just your average been-here-done-that love song. It actually trancends what you'd usually expect from your average song, and is more like story told in a musical context. (similar to the roaming medieval minstells telling their lordly hosts a tale on the tones of their lute, in exchange for food and shelter) It has a purpose, a backstory and has a certain closeness to the artist himself, which imo gives it an edge over the soulless, emotionally void music of the present day.
I also loved the preformance. It was very upbeat and cheerful (if not vocally perfect), and I loved to see Dino Merlin and his musicians entheusiastically prancing on the stage. I felt ambition or even nationalism were not their main goals to be there in Düsseldorf. They were out there because they wanted to tell the world a positive lifestory and have fun, and I can only respect this.
I would agree that it is hard to like initially because it is so atypical, quirky and personal, but it is a song that gradually grows on you every time you listen to it (just like "Taken By A Stranger" btw). I am happy is made the TOP 10 among the tons of soulless Middle-of-Road Pop or other gimmicky crap. It was one of the songs that imo truly deserved a TOP 10 placement, based on everything I said above.
Just my 2 Cents.

We have a result.
Quote: The Azerbaijani winner is indeed somewhat boring, but it is a fairly pleasant song (if cliche and fabricated) and both singers could sing well
"Running off scared tonight" is as misleading as it can be. Everything is so perfect, smiling and inoffensive that noone can be scared - and it worked!
This is perhaps the most irritating simple song this year, it's like if the songwriter said, "we've got this catchy hook but it's only 3 seconds so we must add some harmless, anonymous glue so that we can extend it to 3 minutes."
Eric Saade's entry is very similar in this but at least it has great energy.
Congratulations to us in Sweden for creating these two entries, as well as Russia's, it's really a merit, no doubt about that... Bosnian singer Dino Merlin has lived in Sweden for four years, by the way, and he had a good song.
My favourites were
Georgia (good rocking),
France (impressive) and
Finland (a guitar, melody and voice is all you need),
but there were a lot of other songs that would have been a (more or less) qualified winner; Italy, Germany, Hungary, UK, Serbia, Denmark, Switzerland, Bosnia, even Ireland or Greece.
Italy as second surprised me a lot but it has very cool trumpet and piano playing.
Also, Düsseldorf arena is easily the best so far in the contest, those massive screens made (or could have made...) every performance visually mind-blowing.
