goddamn hannibal just keeps getting better and better.
anthony hopkins' version is getting usurped more and more, with every episode. with anthony's hannibal, one could find a way to sympathize. with this one, don't even bother trying. and the writing/acting is top-notch. a few minor hiccups here and there, but the great so overshadows those hiccups, as to make them immaterial.

Finished watching HBO's miniseries John Adams last night, which of course is about Americas second president and founding father John Adams. It was really good and has been absolutely enthralling. Gotta say, I don't think I ever been so interested in American history as I am just now.
John Adams himself is an truly interesting person and is brilliantly played by Paul Giamatti.
However the one who really takes the price for being a cool dude is Thomas Jefferson, who is amazingly played by Stephen Dillane(aka as Stannis Baratheon).

That was indeed a wonderful series and historically quite accurate as far as I can tell. Jefferson was also portayed quite a charming and sarcastic personality

the writers of hannibal sure are having fun playing around with things. they are creating their own little world, and it's enjoyable to watch, even if they're deviating a bit from the book.
i just hope that they don't try to cater to the audience too much. i would rather they explore what they're writing/creating, instead of pandering. i'd really hate to see this show go south like dexter did.

Started and finished the first two seasons of The Americans. Third season is not broadcasted yet but it's on its way. It's a good thriller, set in early 80's in the US, it is the story of a married couple (with real, biological kids born in America) that are in fact Soviet spies. I heard one of the writers of the show was a former CIA agent, so the details are quite realistic. The perspective on the couple is also balanced, they are neither sanctified or demonized. They kill ruthlessly (sometimes even innocent witnesses) and believe in the communist ideal. It's also good as a period show.

i forgot to post about the season finale of "hannibal". guys, if you haven't watched it yet, then wtf are you doing with your lives? hannibal's better than dexter by miles.
i'm not going to give anything away, but to anyone who has read the "hannibal" series of books by thomas harris, or watched any of the "hannibal" series of movies, let me just say(SPOILER ALERT):
mason verger's "getting rid of face" scene? god. damn.
i was practically squealing with delight, and tap-dancing in my seat. i'm sure my face was lit up like a 2000-watt halogen work light.
and how they ended the season? i mean, ****. these guys are making art, and nothing less. i can't believe i have to wait an entire year to watch this show live again(minutes are like hours, days are like weeks, weeks are like months, months are like years, and years are like decades to me, ffs). sweet bleeding christ. i need to stay occupied, or i'll go mad. MAD I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Vikings are really a great show I picked up recently. a great filler for the time a full new GoT season shows up on the you know what.
historic setting is great. nearly mythical character as a main protagonist is great. for bleeps sake it's bloody vikings, go and watch it.
really looking forward to the third season.

I have just finished the second season of Vikings today. As a matter of fact, I was going to recommend it here, it slipped my mind. This would be both for people who like stuff such as the Tudors or the Borgias and for those who like more action-based stuff like Spartacus. I think, it's better than the whole three above.
Oh, and I wanna marry Lagertha.

I tremendously liked the show Weeds. That is up until season 4-8. Actually I didn't watch the last seasons whole, just a few episodes, but enough to know it wasn't the same show anymore for me.
It doesn't probably go to the list of "must see" shows, but it has a certain unique atmosphere that is hard to say why. Especially the main character (played by Mary-Luise Parker) is so brilliant. My advice would be just to watch 3 first seasons for light dark comedy, I know I enjoyed it.

I have a similar experience. It was quite a witty show with dark humor but then it seemed like they dragged it on and on for too long and it lost something, although I haven't really watched the last seasons either, I just lost touch somewhere along the line. So, it's just an impression.

I'm a fan boy of Hannibal so of course I liked it, but one has to admit certain episodes were kind of meh. Especially during the first season where they tossed us so many crazy criminals it just wasn't credible anymore. But then it picked up again and was good again, when they introduced the pig farmer and got out of this "1 mini story per episode" structure.
The recent one I watched and really enjoyed was Salem. Great actors, everything is credible with a varied cast of young to old, supernatural elements being rare and such. No side stories, every episode so far is related to the main core. The story flows nicely and evenly, the same guy must be directing all episodes. It's very good.

I quit Salem at episode 2. Anachronical mannerisms, cheesy dialogue and corny characters if you ask me. Maybe I expect too much from a TV show but there ARE much better examples that sets the bar a little higher than Salem's out there.

Well damn. >.> ... I didn't quite like the first episode, but I thought it was because making the whole witch scary part was pretty hard. I thought it got good starting middle of episode two lol...
Well you re not the first one to write something like that about Salem. Other, more popular ones are better, like Vikings or Game of thrones or the walking dead, just figured I'd suggest one nobody talked about.

I just finished the second episode of Penny Dreadful, if you're into that horror/mystery stuff, it's got a good cast: Eva Green, that James Bond guy before Pierce Brosnan and a few others. It's much better than Salem and you got to give the writers credit for pulling out something that feels a little coherent instead of a total mess, considering the amount of themes and characters they hailed down into this: Ancient Egypt, vampires, Jack The Ripper, psychics, ghosts, Doctor Frankenstein and even Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray... And this is just two episodes.
