Sure and thanks. A week is nothing, the important thing is to get it done as good as possible, I don't want it because I am urgently going to use the mod anyway. Once this is done it will stay there like that for years so better get it right, right?

An idea for the two objects "entrance to hell" and "entrance to heaven" (btw: good idea): What about renumbering them to a two-way monolite? Or to a subterranean gate?

Heaven can be a monolith (heaven to heaven) and hell can be one way subterranean but don't you think it's better to make them empty templates that the user can attach anything to? Not decorative objects but objects that can be appointed like these:

I don't recall that a one-way subterranean gate exists. So it a) would be a normal two-way subterranean gate and b) at the other level it would need a corresponding subterranean gate. Could be some other subtype.

Other idea for it: Some subtype of the whirlpool. So going through would cost you some troops

As i'm already at it: I'd like to copy these different "grottosCaves" to other subtypes of subterranean gate. Would fit much better to those different terrain types. But for that i would have to know more about the ZEOBJTS.TXT file format. These new subterranean gates should appear in the editor in the right object type section.

With "entry to heaven" i agree.

Hmmm, yes. Would indeed be possible. But that would indeed need the patched editor to place objects that look like A and function like B. But it would be possible. Better? Hmmm, for most objects you're probably right. But for some objects it would simply fit extremely well to some default function. Like these two.

Edit: I think placing them as a standard type would make the AI use them as well.

that's what i have them set as on my "heaven vs. hell" map- 2-way monoliths. i left it up to the map maker to decide how he wants to deploy them, tho. they could be scripted also, just like everything else.

thanks again for taking the time to combine these, siegfried. you will notice more than a few doubles between the two, since i wanted to have my best version of each object. sorry if it added more to your plate.

You're welcome

I do like most of the objects. So why not do some cleanup? BTW, two remarks

1. I'll skip the modified dwellings. It is not possible to renumber them without breaking their function. As far as i remember there are only 2 of them, the azure dragon and the troll dwelling.

2. In the lod files there are objects missing from your first picture. I mean those 4 black spikes with the very colorful runes on their front. I thought they where very nice. If you have them (the defs), could you make them and the txt lines available?

i gotcha, those 4 h2-looking obelisks. somebody else did one of them, i just recolored the runes on the front so people could have more of them. i would have made more than that, but i couldn't get the colors right. i wanted to have one color for every player. i'll upload them by themselves later today.

ok, i updated the 1st object patch download. change the exe to rar, and you can extract the 4 objects you wanted. also, the upload is fixed, and formatted the correct way, with the correct txt.

new spider terrain:

still have to touch up the edges of the defs, but i like 'em.

Very nice indeed. All that is missing now are some spiders. I found some here, but unfortunately there are no defs to download. The links are dead.

i've got spiders, but i'm still trying to work on the spider trees. i tried adding different ground web, but it looks too much like the evil fog, not enough detail. and the spider trees are proving to be harder than i thought. i tried to layer web over trees using photoshop, and it doesn't look right. but my pixel-by-pixel version doesn't look right either. so i'm stuck for now, and have moved on to creating more wildflower defs, made from pics off the net. we'll see how they go.

and, 1st version of spider hole. ideas on improvement?

nevermind. fixed it.

Graphically i'm a noob. So don't ask me

O.k. i am now continuing. Here is a preview (screenshot from the editor), showing some of your objects in both the original and your modified version:

Update: I have some trouble getting some of the patches to work. They won't show up in the editor. I'll skip them for now.
Edit: Got it. Fixed.

Here is a picture combining 2 of the standard h3 objects with one of yours:

As you can seen, it basically fits quite well. But as you also can see it would be a good idea to add some decoration like the original h3 object at the bottom. Add some flowers and some trees. You might just copy them from the flowers and trees from h3. Well, just take a look at the object at the bottom. your object with that decoration would be really great.

wow, seeing the fiery fields side-by-side with my upgraded version makes my **** sparkle, lol. thanks for the work, and the comparison screenshot.

the 2 spider holes:

the top one is the one i'll have the spider showing, at least partly, with the rest in shadow, and the eyes only reflected. that should be creepy enough, for anyone with arachnophobia. the bottom one will have just the leg, tapping... tapping...

edit: that one greenish pond looks like crap tho. i couldn't get it to match the others, even tho i used the same formula. same with a heroes 2 pond i tried converting. which is why i didn't include it an upload.

edit #2: i'm also going to replace my other spider terrain stuff. i'll try to incorporate the 2, but if i can't, the first will be gone. these ones are much better looking. they're named different, tho, so in the future, you won't have to rename them.

I don't think it is crap. It just depends on the environment and the theme. On grass it does not look that good, that's right. But on swamp...

it looks like crap compared to the other lakes i did, is what i mean. here is an updated screenshot of the h2 mountains with decoration. i had my 1st version of wildflowers creeping up the mountains, through layering:

and some more screens, to show some stuff in my 2nd upload:

in case you're wondering, the green clouds are swamp gas. if you look closely you can see the boiling swamp pools that give off the gas. (not yet, but i will animate them to someday)

DISCLAIMER: yes, i use a lot of different people's stuff, as well as my own. i don't want to hear any complaining. (that message isn't for you, siegfried)

Simply wonderful. I wish i could make such maps I see now how your type of lucid pools fit into all. So i think i renumber your icy patches to lucid pools as well.

For the swamp gas and the toxic clouds: I will give them numbers above the other original patches and then make some script to add effect. I think for both it would be appropriate, if fighting on (in) them, then a small amount of damage should be applied to any living creature each round. With erm this should be possible without problems. What would be needed: Matching battlefield grounds. Could you make some? They would have to be placed with erm, but that's no problem.

you can make maps like these, with all the objects you can find, they're all available on this site. just layer them until they look right. as for the swamp gas battlefield, that's a cool idea. since i don't know erm, i could never do something like that. but i can make the battlefield pic for you. hope i didn't delete the formula. shouldn't be too hard to recreate, if i did.

Edit: like this? looks kinda "off" to me...

Yes, something like that. Although i think this is somewhet too much But basically yes, something like that..

Done, second round. I skipped the modified dwellings, because i can't renumber them without breaking their function. Maybe it's possible to just change their name, though. I'll try that later.

The mod contains now Fred79a.txt and Fred79a.lod. Additionally i have uploaded the ZEOBJTS.TXT, because i inserted many of these new objects grouped with their original versions (kind of sorted insert).

Now i'll take a pause, continue with my map, and then later take a look at your second post. I'll put these objects into Fred79a.* later.

So for installing them on WoG it is recommended to make a backup of the clean ZEOBJTS.TXT and H3SPRITE.LOD. So when this mod gets larger you can simply repeat the install. On Era i don't know, but if it's just enough to put the lod as pac into the mods folder...

Edit: I found some bugs. Corrected. And the hell gate seems not to work as whirlpool, so renumbered as two-way monolith.

yeah, that's what i thought also. this was done using the default magic cloud background and the swamp background, i'll just lower the clouds some, so that you can see more of the background.

I think the battlefield version would work better with some kind of a transparent fog. I have no idea if that's hard or easy to do though.

how's this?

looks better, i think.

as for the transparent idea, the only problem with that is, you lose color, it gets more gray. and i'm still not up for using that other means of making things transparent(with that evil .dll file that crashed my lod and made me install the game all over again)

@ siegfried: i found a minor issue with the zeobjts.txt for my second upload: SwmpX19.def - SwmpX50.def were listed as flowers, when they should have been listed as brush. must've been half-asleep. here is the corrected file-
corrected  zeobjts.txt file

thanks again.

I'm guessing when people say it's too much, they are not only talking about the upper line, it would look better if the actual battlefield can be seen partly and the green clouds cover 40-60 percent of the area.
