Hello there,
I am just finishing php map parser for heroes 3, including printing maps in png for all version RoE, AB, SoD and WOG when I found there is also HotA :-)
But I don't know what h3m format it has to include it too, could you please point me to some description of it or provide me the part of source code which I can use to work with.

Never. Was planned for some time ago, but recently canceled for reasons of convenience.
The next version will be called 1.5.0 and will probably traditionally come on New Years Eve
To tide us over, can we have some hints about what's getting included in the new release?

Map Editor
Hi!
I'm unsure if this is the correct place to ask my question.
I recently downloaded HD mod and HoA. I haven't been able to find the HoA map editor. I read that HoA comes with one, is this correct?
I still have my H3 Complete map editor. I've tried to use that to edit a HoA map but it wasn't able to open the file. Any suggestions? I'd really like to be able to edit maps.

you're most likely running the wrong executable.

Hota creates it's own map on your C drive. Open that instead of your normal h3 map.
You can also open an exusting 'hota map' and then start a new map from there

Snow covred versions for the following buildings maybe?
University
School of war
Marletto tower
Garden of revelation
Mystical garden
That would be cool! (or cold because of snow )

As long as we are in "wishing mode", I wish for flags on abandoned mines, more artifacts and heroes.

Maybe some new terrain types?
A new faction would also be nice though I think I have read somewhere that that is not going to happen.
Besides adding new artifacts and new map objects I can't really think of anything else that should be added.

Nah, a new town is off the table for now. Same for new terrain I guess... but at least its possible. As for new players/colors its much harder to impossible 'coz of the hardcode. Would be nice to play all factions on a G map for example but we'll never have this.

I am still baffled by how the Hota team managed to make this though. Like they basically made a fully fledged expansion. Did they reverse engineer the source code of the game or something?

For the most part, I guess so. There are tools available around the internet with which you can disassemble and decompile executable code, like the game's exe file. With some programming knowledge, it's then possible to create "hooks" into this code as it's being put into memory on runtime, through some code they've written themselves. Part of that code is obviously based on what was already there from the base game, altered for their specific needs.
Still, quite a daunting challenge that they managed to tackle .

Speaking of disassembleing... Anyone here has skills in assembler code? Maybe I ask somewhere else. But this would be awesome to find someone with these skills, in what language is HoMM3 written? C?
