Happy Halloween!

Ok story:

The best and worst opening in chess. Guess! More than 10k is worse and 50 is the best. Ok today game day is Halloween Gambit:



Horror! Ok if black plays right, black has a one point in the lead. Not yet know if good but computer analysis. Masters don't dare to play before knowing the purpose of the pattern.

Also, it is "factory faction" which is unknown, but eagle eye is known; and won't be changed by a new faction alone.

Probably the mechanical spiders are influenced by "Wild, wild west" movie, which seems to be an inspiration for Factory in general.

The genre is called "Cattlepunk" (lol)

I wonder what the probability is for Factory to be released before christmas. Any guesses?

I have a yearly tradition with my brother over christmas where we meet at our parents house and live there for a weeks time. One of the key traditions is playing HOTA with all the pleasures of christmas incl. food, walks around the area and kids running around. I really hope that Factory will be released before, so we can enjoy that together!

Ahh sounds like a great time friend! Me and my two brothers do the same

Now that Halloween is passed, we can start making our wishlist for santa Claus.
I gather here the list of what i wish for and of stuff that i saw people ask for:

If it's an adventure map building this effect should have a cost and last for the entire game. If it's a skill it would be 2 then 3 then 4 factions allowed in the army before applying the -1 Morale.
-People wish for a rework or balance of the secondary skills Learning, Eagle Eye and probably First Aid and Scholar too. (It's ok if the rework doesn't please anyone: at least some experimenting would have been tested AND it can be reverted at any point AND these skills currently aren't used anyway.).

Remember adventure and walkthrough! Sal's Time of Prophecy, if I remember right, or my Elite map used Eagle Eye. Esp. walkthrough. Yes I remember one Corribus's map. Strongest player never visit his/her town, they always conquered and fight with enemies. Rarely spells what Eagle Eye can learn them by your mapeditor. Excellent!

It wouldn't seem to crazy to me, but I aknowledged it may be too much by saying it could include those. At least that's what I was trying to say.

Jumping + exploding or disease/fireshield would make for some fun gameplay, I think.

And by the way Wild Wild West was indeed why I was thinking spiders. That and the neat real-life desert spider I mentionned.

Great thanks to Docent Picolan and the crew for their astonishing work!

One year ago today, the great Docent Picolan deceased tragically. To commemorate him, I want to thank the whole HotA crew for their invaluable contribution to this wonderful good old game!

This "mod" has become a de facto expansion of Heroes III sparking a resurgence of players, multiplayer online matches and tournaments. Already without the Factory, it is a very, very refined mod showcasing Heroes III in perhaps the best way ever.
The crew has put so much vision, passion, time, attention to detail and skill into it, it really shows: graphical fixes, QoL features, careful balance changes, bugfixing, a lot of fresh content from neutral units to map objects, new core features like spell research, the RMG template editor, the online lobby and simultaneous turns, and finally completely new towns and terrains with fantastic music scores by Docent Picolan.

Thank you for your great work!
May this mod live on for long!

Only thing I wish about Scholar is that it could transmit elevel 5 spells, thus becoming the only way to teaching spells found in Pyramids.

Otherwise it is a little pointless (meaning it only saves some movement)

Still useless. When I did "My opinion and wish about the Heroes 8" thread reads/says

EAGLE EYE - The same H3, but Master 70% and GM 80%, also both 5lvl. One still thing, Basic Eagle Eye can learn your 1lvl Mage Guild without visit your town, GM means 5lvl.

Specialty -

Ok I combined Eagle Eye and Scholar becomes OP. Heh Phoenix.. This before I analyzed the maps, you need a TP, then you've force go to your town back is slow, and you pay your times.

If you want be Scholar, I suggest you, NimoStar, only Scholar user can learn spells from the Pyramid. In a Pyramid should have a several of hidden spells, etc thus random. In principle Tower has more spells.

It's useless, because common maps haven't a Pyramid. Only idea is good but useful, then I wait for some finds my Eagle Eye is also useless.

Remember walkthrough uses Eagle Eye and Scholar, so we can't remove them. A normal game, those are useless, except special map.

Well, all skills depend on map in a way or another.

Map without water -> Navigation is useless

Map where towns are one day walk away-> Logistics is useless

Map that only uses terrains without movement penalty -> Pathfinding is useless

Map where you have Tower grail -> Scouting is useless

And so on and so forth...

The thing is making a skill in such way that it can be useful at least *sometimes*

Eagle eye for example is always useless, basically, since it is random not even mapmakers can depend on it.

If scholar can learn/teach lvl5 spells, at least there a is special utility from it and pyramids (not only mage guild spells; pyramid spells, unlike others, only are learned once), otherwise there is no special utility except saving a bit of movement by learning fro, hero instead of guild.

Pyramids could be revisitable, but additional visits would still give bad luck.

If you're instered start creating Eagle Eye in your map. I reveal the basic is enabled spells to AI heroes or Pandora's Box or event, and disabled your selection spells in mage guilds. Because we never experienced good spells about AI. Then you do co-op, human vs AI, etc I recommend AI chooses Secondary Skills, thus random effects e.g. Forgetfulness, no easy. Then you find more a new idea.

@all you

I think H3 should be Town Gate (H4), if opponent casts TG during combat, you can learn it. That's why I built for H8 or some needs balance in H3. If I know how to use ERA scripts, I create MOD for all players.

@Phoenix

5% Specialty hmm if ERA (FirePaladin said HotA isn't ERA, and Galaad said HotA is ERA) allows a new speciality.

Could be, but still the randomness means you are depending on something else for it to work. Unless the hero has Expert Eagle and all artifacts (does that give 100%? Or just 90%?)

The first idea has the problem that it would need Expert Scholar first to make sense, which isn't how skill specialties normally work. I'd rather it be part of the base: Basic lvl:1-2, Advanced lvl:3-4, and Expert level 5.

However, I do wonder how a Scholar specialist would work. Maybe learn hidden spells from mage guild, as if a secret "Library"? Probably too much work to implement for just a specialty...

New specialties should be relatively easy to add for anyone who has a decent access to the game's code, like HotA team as one example, regardless of it being ERA, or SoD or HotA (and of course, anyone with decent C++ knowledge).

The Scholar specialty could add +1 spell level per Scholar level, so Basic 1-3, Advanced 1-4 and Expert 1-5 of course you would still need the appropriate level of Wisdom.

Regarding the Pyramids, I always put level 18 Quest Guards in front of them to ensure all (most) heroes have Expert Wisdom at that point, so it is'nt wasted.
But I rather the Pyramids could just be visited again instead of being a one-time event.
