I suppose a way to preserve this aspect could be to make the desert town neutral. That is, you cannot pick it as a starting town on random maps. But this might also be seen as being too wasteful.

Anyhow, this is just one aspect on it to consider that I wanted to point out.


but it's only non native to all of the towns because there is no Sand town yet for it to be native to mate lol

Should desert remain neutral just because of nomads?
I think it would be great with a desert themed town, Cove would also have fitted well in sand, but they made them swamp pirates which is also interesting, I guess.

Sure, you can argue for that, verriker. For all I know, NWC might have contemplated creating such a town, at some point, at least. But they might also have deliberately opted not to. What evidence, if any, exists about it? I only know of the Nomad creature. And then there's that mysterious building on the SoD menu screen. But then again, I haven't played the campaign to know any better of it to be honest.

I never said it was a good idea or anything. It seems wasteful as I said. Still, my point about the Sand terrain stands. You could argue for it being a small loss, or not meaningful enough to actually prevent a desert town from being a good idea. But I'm not convinced about that myself at this point, at least.

But a neutral town would be awesome too... start with a town from scratch and add some stuff from time to time. When you finished one building/unit the town can be built further, like restrictions in mapeditor. Also: your fanbase get updates...

IMO sand as a truly neutral terrain works, and I'm not in favour of a town that you can't select to start with. OTOH, I've though about mini-towns (possibly nameable as Hamlets), which are smaller (2x3 on the adventure map vs the normal 3x5-with-the-back-corners missing of the normal town), but have less capabilities as they'd lack City Halls (and thus Capitols), Castles, two levels of the Mage Guild, Resource Silos and  tier 5/6/7 Dwellings, plus for those that share a type with existing towns, some of the special buildings.

Its right that sand is neutral and was neutral all the MM series, but,
Do not varn and its derivatives are not neutral "factions" in the mm universe?

Desert/Oasis Town

I know that Neph had already designed a Oasis town probably back in 2014, but I guess it has been shelved?  Unfortunate, as I believe that Oasis would do much better than Forge, Kronverk or Cathedral.

I have been thinking about it for a while and why not make a town that includes some of the neutral creatures already built in the game.  Yes, you would need to adjust either Mummies or Nomads to be stronger since both are level 3 currently.  Additionally, you would still need to design the upgraded version of each creature, and create a level 1, 5 and 7 dwelling.  7 could be Rust Dragons, though:

Oasis
Level 1:
Level 2: Rogues/Thieves
Level 3: Mummies/Pharoah Mummies
Level 4: Nomads
Level 5:
Level 6: Gold/Diamond Golems
Level 7:


Level 1 ideas:  Locust, Scarabs,
Level 5 ideas: ?
Level 7 ideas:  Worm, Sphinx, Cobra,

Sharpshooters are the neutral level 4 creature, for an upgrade please consider the Lava Sharpshooters from WoG (no fear, fireball, fire immune) and make them lava creatures. Inferno is an ammazing town but could use a stronger shooter, specially cause if they demon farm they will tend to have lots of slots free and gogs to be the second sacrifized creature.

The HotA guys certainly won't arbitrarily slap neutral creatures together just to have a new town. What is that "neutral town" thing supposed to be? Either creatures are neutral or attached to a town...

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think it is 'arbitrarily slapping' creatures together.  Golems, Rogues, Mummies, Nomads, etc. all belong in a desert like setting, why not have an Oasis town with the backstory being that these wayward creatures came to find an Oasis in the middle of the desert and put together their own society, finding that protecting themselves as a group was better than defending themselves individually...

There's no new town planned ATM anyway.

Question, is the Horn of the Abyss storyline over? As in there will be no more campaigns for HotA as listed in the campaign menu?

Will the following campaigns continue on it, or will they start a new storyline?

Last posts were about new ideas for future town so I'm gonna also give you some of my ideas:

1) Underworld
2) Kronwerk, Cathedral
3)Forge
4)Nature
5)Asian

1.Don't you agree that next to water terrain the most undeveloped is underworld? Subterranean got one of the lowers amount of objects and this type usually covers big parts of the map - upper level of the map is mixed but underworld is in 80% Subterranean. New town in the future and bunch of new buildings/ decorations with it might improve it.

1a) First Idea is inspired of MM H7's fortress. Partly Dwarf faction located underground with huge role of fire instead of snow. (Fire Gigant, Fire Dragon, Dis, lave elemental)

1b) City with new underground monsters + dark elves

Objects that might be added are also similar to what we have seen in HOMM5 - train tracks, trolley, weird rock which shine,  etc.


2) Won't say much about it cause we all know this idea. Imo Eastern European, autumn inqusition town would be really cool, so as viking/northen monsters's Kronwerk.

3) Town Inspired on technology. Hard to tell what is better - XIX steampunk or WWII. First one would probably fit better to HOMM3 but on the other hand WWII's one got strong M&M legacy.

4) Another Town based on Nature. We already have few neutrals that might fit perfect (satyr, leprechaun or scharpsooters). Rest could be some comeback from HOMM4 or H7 (white tigers, deers, mantids)

5) Asian town. City based on far east culture. It's not common in M&M universe but H6's Sanctuary was quite allright, and could be amazing with better unit rooster - 3 water womens, really Ubi?  


What do you think about it?


@When can we expect new information about 1.5 ?
