Dear friends,

Surely you were waiting for a different post, but, alas, we cannot treat you to a New Year release this time. There is still work to be done on the Factory, and no apparent need for a stopgap patch either. That said, there is something nice we want to share with you! The author of the original soundtrack for Heroes of Might & Magic III, the great Paul Romero himself, has agreed to create a Factory town musical theme based on the leitmotif that was composed by Docent Picolan back in the day. Paul has a message for you and a few measures from the upcoming theme to share. HotA Crew joins Paul in wishing you a very happy New Year. All the best - and stay tuned for news in 2021!

Well can't say I'm not disappointed, but I understand.
It's cool you are working with Paul Romero and I gotta say I really love the Factory theme.
Hope we don't have to go too far into 2021 to receive an update though.
Best of luck too all of you, 2021 can not be worse than 2020 was.

What an absolute surprise that is.

One of the devs of darkest dungeon said in an interview that they designed the game for the player to make the best out of a bad situation.

I feel like this is relevant because while the events have turned tragically wrong in the past few weeks for the project, Romero stepping in is the absolute best out of the bad situation that could have happen if you want my opinion.

You can delay the factory as long as need be, it's understandable. Yet when i saw the video and heard the first sneak peeks at the upcoming track, damn i am truly hopeful.

This shows how dedicated this community is, and how strong the ties we have to this game are still alive and well. This is a very honorable move that'll ensure the end product will be as best as it possibly can albeit the unfortunate events we witnessed.

damn this is beautiful. i am 100% satisfied with this update. the best news we could have gotten today.

god bless you all and i wish you all the very best of luck for the coming year my fellow gamers.

I have a suggestion about scool of magic and some spells in further updates.

In my Opinion in PvP games there are now 2 overpowered spells that makes the game mostly non-surprising - it is wiev air and visions. I mean that wiev air has to long range (whole map? really?!)(it should be reduced to an area and make this spell more valuable for ex. 3 lvl spell which cost 20 mana). Wiev air makes that i can't make any surprise attack because opponent knows my exactly position of heroes and towns. It's for my annoying in PvP game and destruct the sense of game. I know that many players can't use this spell correctly but good players makes advantage with this spell.

Now about visions... I mean that this spell has to long range and shows which units will join us! Now, when diplomacy has sense and it's good balanced, with visions is overpowered in big maps. In my Opinion visions spell shouldn't have so long range to know which units will join us (reduce this range or remove this ability) It's annoying in maps like firewalk when player know wich units will join and he can plan hero moves in that turn. It should be for me more randomly!

I want to buff water magic in PvP games.... Maybe move town Portal to this scool of magic? or move antimagic to this scool. It would make then more sense to use this scool magic. Now it's non worth in pvp games. I have an Idea to make "water wave spell" which would be an offens spell lvl 4. which makes dmg like meteor shower (little less but with sth other effect... Maybe more area (buff/debuff ability)

additionally:

More sense magic mirror spell - (maybe 20% all units)
More sense counterstrike
More sense fireball and inferno spell (more dmg)

That's my Opinion. Hope that they would be used in further updates

Personally I was not expecting an update this time, while it's been traditional for updates to fall on New Year's Day with Docent's passing things were inevitably going to slow down. Other projects would stopped right then and there.

Thanks to Paul Romero for joining the team, I couldn't have picked somebody more fitting to finish Docent's tracks.

HNY to everyone here and in the HotA community!

Yep, there is no questioning I've checked this thread post-new year to see if there are any news about the Factory release, but didn't expect anything when taking into account what has happened not so long ago...

The fact that the original composer of H3 recognizes a mod and composes music for it is truly magical. It is unfortunate all this happens in the shadow of one of the mods original creators passing...

I've already said many times HotA feels like an actual expansion, not a mod, and the fact that Romero is on board somewhat only strenghtens that impression. I actually can't recall if there were situations like this in the past as far as modding goes, I only recall some mods being recognized officialy and bought out, Counter-Strike being one of the most prominent cases I think.

To anyone that enjoys fantasy-related books I recommend D&D 5ed Monster Manual: https://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/rpg-products/monster-manual. I've recently bought it and can tell it's really nice, especially from the nostalgic point of view (many of todays standards and characteristics of monster representations come from D&D afterall and Heroes designers took a lot from it). You might ask why would you want to buy a book that is in essence a manual for a tabletop game if you don't play it for instance? Well, the book is actually a pretty nice read in itself as it's mostly lore (+tables and statistics ofc but imo that only adds to the expierience of reading the book as it gives "weight" to monster powerlevels etc). There are some stats ofc and game mechanics, but it's more about visualizing a monster and giving it substance for narrative actually. I must say my imagination is really put to action I think anyone who enjoys Heroes games will find a lot of reference material here

Happy New Year everyone!

I though while we are waiting on Factory to be released I would share my ideas or more like assumptions/theories I have regarding Factory.

So in an interview back in summer it was revealed that the Factory grail building will be associated with sieges. I just couldn't help thinking about this when at one point I "realised" something. Could it be possible that the grail building turns the arrow towers into cannons once the grail is built?

https://imageupload.io/lweQ16Yn2l.i

I mean in this promo video you can see at the daily income-meter that a grail is built in fact, both in the village and in the castle as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSsek0wIEY

https://imageupload.io/lweQ16Yn2l.i

I suspect that the Grail is the perpetuum-mobile-like thing in the middle. Obviously this assumptuion has got no ground whatsoever, it is just spitballing, I just thought it would be fun to discuss this possibility. You can see the building and the cannons on this artwork as well.

https://imageupload.io/lweQ16Yn2l.i

That building can very well be like the tier 4 creature or even the Juggernaut dwelling, however I find this (especially the Juggernaut) quite unlikely and it really feels like the grail.

Speaking of the tier 4 unit, we do not know too much of that so far. I have watched the videos and actually noticed a hero who is kind of different from everybody else. I mean if you take a look of what we know so far about Factory heroes, all of them are like humanoids, except for this guy here.

https://imageupload.io/uCkjiFQtQn.i

https://imageupload.io/lweQ16Yn2l.i

Could this mean that this guy they would be some kind of specialist for Automatons? I mean an on-screen animation shows this guy being a Mercenary, so he could very well be a creature specialist. His on-screen name looks something like heatstroke, so he could also very well be a Juggernaut specialist as well (my Russian is non-exsistent, I only can read Russian and the hero's name sounds a lot like heatstroke )

Do you think any of these would be viable?

Without your comment about the name, I'd have ventured a guess that might be Maximus, a half-orc that was one of Kastore's Terran companions in his Deyja venture. With your comment about the name sounding like heatstroke... that seems less likely.

I forgot to say this for months, but from all points of view, I personally think the Crimson Couatl is a fitting upgrade. It gains a golden armor, which is the main color of the upgraded creatures, and a royal red color scheme, which is present in the heroes at least (the same color representing the nature's taming, etc.).
