Quitting smoking will show strong benefits within five years and even in your 50s you can still largely reverse the effects of smoking by the time you become most vulnerable to heart disease.

Don't make me return for peanuts addressing, please.

*Sigh* I see, you still don't read the stuff you link to:

Quote:
Researchers analyzed the lifetime smoking history of 8,700 participants of the Framingham Heart Study, and found that 70 percent of cardiovascular disease events such as stroke, heart attack, and and heart failure in current or former smokers occurred among those who had smoked a pack a day for 20 year. The results also showed that, contrary to popular belief, their risk of cardiovascular disease only decreased by 38 percent in the first five years after they quit. But how long did it take to for smokers’ heart health to return to those of non-smokers? Sixteen years.

So people smoking HALF of what you did took 16 years to fully come back, not five. And that's just the heart. If you research a bit, you'll find that the lung takes double the time.

I am fully aware of that, however it doesn't change the bottom line, which is you will recover. Stay healthy and you will be safe from most of things. Most doesn't mean all, it means most. You can also die from stepping on a nail, it that infects and worse.

When you call regular training, where your heart works out and pumping,  as "some running" I can only imagine in what awful shape is your body and health, so I understand where you come from and what you're trying to defend. To each his standards.

With each post you are making more of a fool out of you. Remember what this is all about - you DIDN'T lead a healthy life and your current risk of cardio-vascular illnesses is a lot higher than that of a person with a healthy lifestyle - still you claim you had covid and it wasn't more than a scratch.
While you also claim, Covid19 isn't deadly, except for those with an unhealthy lifestyle and insofar nothing special.

You added WILLPOWER to the equation, and I start to think that you borrowed from some of the more sillier preachers - maybe you share your handle now with Elodin, that would explain a lot.

Otherwise you managed now a couple of times within the last days to link to something that is actually supporting what you are arguing against. Reading the last stuff of you, I'm reminded of this super grover episode.

My advice to you is, just shut up for once and wait till the end of the year. Then we all know more.

Lastly,
Quote:

When you smoke 40 a day and you sit on your a$$ the whole day your heart pumps already when you go to the toilet, so "regular training where your heart works out and pumping" is RELATIVE and depends on your shape. And you know that, since you will cope with training better NOW than a couple years before. I also don't think you understand anything, not where I come from or what I'm trying to defend (nothing). I'm a firm believer in regular workout and keeping myself fit and of a healthy weight, but as opposed to you I don't think that I can make up with that for my 30 years of smoking, even though I quit 20 years ago. I can make amends, but not more.

I also think that I might die from covid, because for reasons I don't need to explain further and are beyond my control my immune system is permanently on high alert and loves to inflame stuff at the slightest excuse (and this would quite probably kill me, via multi-inflammation, like about one third (last time I checked) of the corona-dead).

I have no idea what you're talking about or where you're going with this. You assume that because I smoked once, I am affected and my health is bad. Source?

Me to Fred: stay healthy and most of things won't get to you.
JJoke: oh Sal posted something, let's react because I have no life, drop some more crap, start an argue for the sake of, and confuse the whole thread. Drop some personal insults on the way, change some quotes, caricature most of what's being said, and if doesn't work redo the cycle.

I have no time to waste, so if it is one to shut for once, take that advice to yourself, you're becoming tiresome and reached the Himalaya levels of ridiculousness.

I think the part that he reacted to was where you also said “covid is not life threatening.”
It’s true that considering your age and condition, odds of covid killing you is pretty low but you’d still be, (and if you had it, you were) a carrier, which is life threatening, only not  so life threatening to you.

YOU started to spoof my handle here. I just stated that I suspect your intelligence isn't quite as high as you think - which you are confirming with every post.
I will oppose your views at every opportunity, as long as they continue to be what they are.

You have no nothing to say and no points.

Why not also link deaths from covid statistics by state? Not so good looking, eh?

How many republican leading states in the first 10?  Two. Which means, by the logic you push there, one has 5 times more chances to die from covid if living in democrat leading states. Better you move away quick then!

@artu

Covid mortality rate tops at less than 1%. So you tell me when starts the "life threatening" tag. Because by that logic that some will die, any illness is life threatening, so better we hide in caves.

Well, as I said in the related thread, there is the opinion that it’s overrated by some but it’s certainly not just some regular flu. The thing is, it incubates a while and spreads through air, which means things can get serious if enough millions are effected because then, you wont have enough respitory machines to save people and so on...

Whats so hard solving a simple equation. You take for example USA, the most affected country, then get the number of covid deaths so far, 132k.

Then you look at estimated results of real infection numbers, between symptomatic and asymptomatic, and scroll down to USA as well.

Then you take the lowest value which is 5% of the population being infected (the range is 5-25% so I am generous here) which is at least 16350000 people possibly affected. Divide by number of deaths = 0.8%.

Bye.

Your link  says it's guesswork.

My simple arithmetic says, in Germany we were pretty good in finding the infected, and we are at 5%. The US are at 5% as well. France is at 15%. Guessing that there are way more infected, is just reading tea leaves.

Okay. Look at New Zealand. Declared themselves corona free. 1530 infected and 22 dead. 1.4% mortality. That's it. No reason to go lower.

Thing is - that's optimal situation. If too many are sick, people die because they can*t be treated. If the whole world gets it - 1oo million dead. More, though, due to treatment problems with too many sick at the same time.

My advice for you is still to just waint and see. Might get very ugly  soon.

By your own arithmetic, France is at 15% - which means a 0,3% death probability. Germany even lower then. And my equation used US at 5%, the lowest estimated infection rate, not higher. So we are everywhere under 1%.
You want to speculate and go up to 1,5% because New Zealand case only, fine, I don't see much of a change in its life-threatening pattern.

"Wait and see" is once more speculating, we will do the math again at that moment instead of throwing figures from a crystal ball.

I don't wholly blame Trump for the pandemic getting bad and I'm not sure how much better things would have been under Clinton. I think she would have provided much more competent leadership but there are great limits to what a president is able to do. If Trump wanted mass testing as soon as February or early March that could have helped tremendously.

All the same, Americans aren't very bright upstairs. I don't say that for the lolz but simply because it's sad but true and there's no point beating around the bush. There are tens of millions of people who believe with conviction that having a gun in their house makes them safer instead of less safe, while they simultaneously blew off the pandemic as something minor, or worse yet, as a hoax. They are incapable of making any salient cost-risk analysis of the situation because their views are built within a fictional view of reality. That means millions and millions of people around the country making riskier decisions or outright reckless decisions moreso than what you would find in Europe. The culture matters and the country is not well-adapted for a pandemic.

The country just needs to ride out the pandemic as best as possible with very poor leadership at the front. Lots and lots of people with health conditions and obesity are going to be dead by the end of it. I'm sure the south and the southwest will end up being the hardest hit.
