As it seems, news need patching too... We are in the middle of February and not even an ETA concerning the next patch which is weird and sad...

It was nice that the old games didn't try and shove any of its lore down our throats. If you wanted to learn more, there were the rpg games, where those stories can be told with a purpose.
Throwing it all into heroes, where a good bit of players don't really care about that stuff, was the wrong way to go.

The lore usually isn't a static thing - as I'm not the only one to point out, the problem is, that it IS static in Ashan. I mean, we have a strict lore in AoW as well, but they SHAPE the lore, depending on how they want to continue.
For example, we had High Elves and Dark Elves in AoW 2 - in Aow 3 they are re-united again.
There is no reason whatsoever why something like that shouldn't happen in Ashan - I mean, why not? The lore might say, Inferno broke through the gates of Sheogh, and eliminated part of the Holy Empire (half of the Duchies), led by the Demon Messiah; then they split: DM wanted to settle there and then and keep things peaceful, there was opposition, and after a short and brutal fight the nastier part of the Inferno got back to Sheogh. After that, the new Demon faction revealed, they had been behind the Elven split.
Et voila, Elves got re-united and the goddess sisters Malassa and Sylanna are now allied as well (hint: a new kind of magic arises).
That delivers: a brandnew Elven faction, that, surprise, surprise is pretty powerful, combining the assets of two factions and two dragon Gods. A VIABLE demon faction that acts in a normal fashion. A fallen-apart Holy Empire without Emperor - there are only duchies existing which squabble among each other. Free Cities have united, though, to form a non-religious "commonwealth": Elrath is out of the picture as well.
And suddenly, lo and behold, there's only prime, water, fire, air, and some new "Elfen" magic, that produces really powerful Dark-Earth magic.
Took 5 minutes to spin that. May not be that good, but shows that lore isn't a problem: it's not going forward, that is.

I had a similar take on the matter, but the ideas are endless really. Demons break out, create chaos, they try to summon Urgash, some chaotics powers seep out and distort all magic. Wizards are unable to cast spells and need to find new ways to attune to magic, thus they learn to use the former elements in new ways (new magic system). Humans after being oppressed manipulated and mishandled, without leadership either turn to orcs for support, or the wizards or even to the Free-cities, thus Haven is no more but new hybrid factions arise. Elves and Dark elves having taken much damage decide to try and re-unite thus making a newer faction.
But the ideas are indeed endless, like demons subjucating the orcs or event he dwarves and making them slaves, or Humans working with Dwarves, or even Dark elves making an alliance with Dwarves that create a new faction.
I mean, all you need is the desire to shake things up and do some change.

I love how they don't even try to go into detail about the patch, nothing about the content or the balance changes or any improvements. Just constant delays, and now they'll tell us when they try to figure out the release date.
Then on Monday we'll likely see, "Okay, just wait till Friday and then we will reveal the release date for the future patch!"
Friday comes around....
"So sorry dear heroes, there were some issues we found at the last possible test of our new build, and have to push the reveal of the release date of the patch because it needs more patching. Early March you will have a vague idea of when the release date may be announced and be even closer to knowing when you might enjoy the lost tales of Axeoth!!"....

It's a twisted irony Enroth got to be eradicated.
Maybe Vivendi has some hope for this. Maybe it is even in their name - viv [translation: to live] / (the) end (of Ashan).
But, I also start to think the odds are whoever holds the Might & Magic IP couldn't restore the franchise to its former glory. It's partly because Ubi has just desecrated a lot of it and even if they would truly listen to our feedback, there is always a chance something gets ruined by marketing, like simplifying the game.
