They could have made them already (and save the dropping factions themes for expansion). Or they could still record them, after all there is like what, 1 year to the release of the game?

What about music themes for 5th and 6th factions? Are they made or will be made when fans chose ones?

PS Or maybe these votes are pseudo choices?

I love the harpsichord piece from Heroes 1, Grass Theme in Heroes IV, Sylvan Theme in Heroes V, Most of the Tribes of the East expansion music came out pretty cool and on this new soundtrack I love most of it! (Maybe because it’s new?) My favorites being Hope for Green Falls, Requiem For a King, The Elven Coronation & The Wizard’s Waltz....

That doesn't automaticly mean Sylvan townscreen theme but it's a hint in my opinion

Edit: Ops someone already posted it

In regards to the supposedly elven/rampart/nature/sylvan track. It is not uncommon for video game soundtracks, that there are more tracks composed than finally used in the game. Those hidden or unreleased tracks are often even in the game files and are found when someone messes with the files. While I think it's quite likely that this track will be in the game because it is specially mentioned in the interview it doesn't have to be.

Furthermore I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Romero and Rob King already composed the music for every faction that could possibly appear in Heroes VII. It would make sense for Ubi/Limbic to have these available if or when they need them. Getting back to Romero and King for one or two new tracks seems not very reasonable or efficient.

No journeyman's encounter in the list? I am really enjoying the music this time around, they have captured that beautiful feeling of old. I kinda expected hope for green falls to be reserved for sylvan though.

I do not know what to think about the theme. It does mesh with the medieval feel and it feels reminiscent of Heroes games, H4 Haven in particular... but this is where I am off the boat. I'd rather have it sound more aggressive.

IE, the campaign menu of H6 that plays immediately after this one on SC sounds better to my ear.

Well, it's  kinda logical that they already made Sylvan, Fortress, Inferno and Dark Elves themes. Ubisoft won't wait for the result of the votes to order new musics from King & Romero ... especially when you see how long it takes to create such masterpieces !

At worst, they can re-use the musics somewhere else in the game. At best, they'll already be done for x-packs

I think it's obvious they recorded every track needed in advance. And Sylvan is known to win since day 1 anyway so hardly shocking they mention Elven music in the interview...

I don't think so. For several reasons.

If you guys would've listened to hahakocka's interview with Romero, you would've understood that they firstly need a sample to understand the mood and how the music should fit and feel. It's common sense to create the theme music after the developers design a faction, so that you don't end up with music that doesn't match what you see on the screen.

Now try looking at things from Ubisoft's point of view. Why would they want Romero and King to create theme music for all 9 factions? Because it would be a pain for them to do one every time they'd announce another town with an expansion? Well, that's the only way, mates. Why would you buy something in advance that you're unsure you'll ever use? Think about it, this is Ubisoft we're talking about here. Future expansions are uncertain at this stage, so buying a score for something not even planned is an unnecessary risk.

And you could always look at Heroes 6 and see what happened. Did King and Romero compose the Shades music in advance? No. IIRC, they were fired before Shades so the music was made by someone else. They didn't had anything in advance for Dungeon.

So plenty of reasons to doubt that they already made all the faction music before their development even started. The industry simply doesn't work that way. My guess is that Paul and Romero are working as we speak. They will probably have to compose music for the other 2 factions voted by the council. That's why these are the first votes we have. Things get decided as soon as possible, then they get executed, not the other way around. There's absolutely no reason to venture in the unknown, and Ubisoft knows that well.

Once again, Sylvan was 100% to be featured in the game, Ubi knew that in advance. It was no way in hell it would be defeated by a Heroes V expansion faction. So I don't see why it's hard to assume they were asked to compose the music for it at the same time as Haven etc.

This.

One thing we learnt on Heroes VI, is that Rob and Paul need a lot of time to work. So it was wiser to ask them to work on all tracks in advance (we also have a nice Dwarven theme that they named "Tinkering with the Dwarves" for instance).

Even if the faction doesn't end up in the game, the tracks can always be used somewhere else. In-game, in a trailer, maybe even in another game. Nothing is wasted.

Do you really think that, after nearly 10 years of Ubisoft-produced Heroes games, the Ashan Compendium, and all the existing concept arts, it's not possible to convey the mood for each faction before the new assets are produced?

Rob and Paul weren't "fired" (and besides they are not Ubisoft's employees, but freelance contractors). At the time of Shades of Darkness, because of scheduling conflicts, it was simply safer for us to ask Jason Graves to work on the music. But we always knew that Rob & Paul would be back for the hypothetical Heroes VII

Which is what I have said all along during the whole "They fired Romero and King" uproar. Thanks Marzhin.

Are you denying that Ubisoft provided Paul and Rob with samples of the new designs in Heroes VII? Unless they're just revamped ones from Heroes 6. Your 10 years of Ubisoft produced Heroes games means just 2 games, Heroes 5 and 6. Two very different games if you'd ask me, like Heroes 4 was to Heroes 3. Switch the music scores from one to another and play them. VASTLY different. I haven't said that the mood is not intuitive enough, especially for professionals like Paul and Rob which have worked on Heroes since the first iteration, I just explained the way they do things as heard in hahakocka's interview.

When such designs existed, of course. For factions we already knew will be in the game (Haven, Necropolis, Stronghold, Academy), we had a handful of rough sketches and concept art to share with Rob & Paul.
But for the rest of the factions, we only sent existing pieces of art that were fitting what we want in H7.
As I said before, we aren't producing any graphical asset for the new factions before the vote is over.
