Ubi/Limbic PR and the decline of the "Shadow Council"

Okay now that I have calmed down after yesterday's blowout and collected my thoughts I have a few observations that I need to vent.

I love this series with all of my heart.
I have played every game with Might & Magic in the title to death.
I have introduced the series to everyone I know.

So naturally when I heard of the production of MMH7 I was overjoyed.
When I found out that we would have a chance to affect the game I was incredibly excited.

Voting on the Factions was a really interesting process that I enjoyed to no end.
When I heard that there would be no random skills I threw my heart and mind into the #GURS campaign.  I was convinced that this game was going to be a return to what the series used to be when I heard that they were going to give in to our demands.

Then my excitement slowly died.

They revealed the return of Spideropolis, not only with extra spidery goodness, but also reused models that they KNEW that we hated. Again they agreed to redesign two units to satiate us, which made me feel like they actually cared about this game.
Then they revealed the boring-a$$, simple, cookie cutter skill "wheels".
Again I put my heart and my brain into trying to convince them to make this game the best it possibly could be.
There were SO many comments pointing out its flaws. The best comment section was filled with displeasure. Someone even organized a petition that got over 180 signatures.
I checked in every day, multiple times to see what they would say about what the public generally thought about the current system.

I did not really expect them to change anything. I know that it is relatively late into development and they can not make any ground breaking changes.

What I wanted was them to acknowledge everything we did. I wanted them to explain why they revealed it so late into development and apologize for not giving us any control over what amounts to the most important part of the game by far.

I finally got my answer over a week later.

"Hey fellas'

We are currently preparing a statement regarding the skill wheel mechanism. Could you please share your main concerns and questions (in bullet point) regarding this Topics, so we can integrate them in the feedback of our game designers."

I got stupid and stopped reading at this point. I was a little peeved that they actually needed us to share our opinion, I mean come on could we have been any clearer?
But that at least satisfied my desire for a response.
Then I saw someone quote the final part of that post,

"Important information: In this state of the game, there will be no changes in the system and the mechanics."

My vision went red.

I don't mind that they ruined my favorite faction for the second time in a row.
I don't mind that they are making this game for teens and casual gamers.
I don't even mind the current skill system THAT much.

But when they go and reveal what is the most important part of the game at the very end of development, listen to our anger and unsatisfaction with it, wait a week and come out and say what amounts to, Thank you for your responses but we are not going to change anything, now go F$& yourself.

My eyes were opened.

They did not make the Shadow Council for the long-time hardcore fans, they made it for the Lightavatars and DeltaDragons.
They did not make it so they could hear our feedback, they made it to advertise their game to their teen demographic.
I honestly halfway believe that they were planning on giving us random skills all along and only "gave in" to make us think that we were making a difference, same thing with the Necro reveal. If they really wanted our feed back about the actual game and not just the art and Factions they would have revealed this a lot earlier so we could tell them what we thought. What they did proves to me that Ubi does not give two figs for it's fans, all they want is for there game to sell well, who gives a damn if it is actually good.

I have said several time that no matter what they do I would buy this game, unconditionally. And I still stand by that, probably.
However I wash my hands of the "Shadow Council" and actually caring about this game.

Please forgive any typos, as I said in the posts that got deleted because I used caps lock in rage, I am on vacation and typing this on an IPad.
Sorry for becoming pessimistic but I REALLY cared about this game, and Ubi just showed me how much that means to them.

why in the name of Asha the Great Green Spider would you want to see changes in the system and mechanics, Ubi-Raenus?

obviously your mere fan complaints are not indicative of real problems, they're not valid cause for concern,
they're glitches and mistakes, anomalies in the Music of the Spheres Spiders to be handled, ironed out by the Holy PR Department, everyone understands this and even for the really dense out there, we're no longer even trying to hide it

get with the programme lol

About the Czech Collectors edition.

The thing that surprised me the most was the estimated price.. 2 899 Kč (Czech krowns) = 100+ €.... And Czech prices are usualy lower then the avarage ones. So CE could be about 120€ or more! Which is not that few in any country.
I think this is thanks to the statue, and I wonder if there is a Statue-free option.

Hey I was wondering why I didn't see that blue man group deserter in the academy hall of heroes. They should have made that sweet half-a-elf hero the exclusive one, it would have convinced so many more people to buy the collectors edition

Not necessarily. The idea is to let people make suggestions regarding what the next lore article should be about.

Like I said, I want a lore article about Sandro's Order of the Void. It was fleshed out the most in DoC and HO, so we still don't know enough about it.

Correct.

Correct again. HoMM is actualy not game ment for adults, but teens and childeren. Don't agree? How old were you, when H1, H2 and H3 were out? 30? Homm is meant for teens. It says in the box. "Rated T for teen".

Again correct. They make these things to sell them. Profit is the mesure of success. Not only in gaming, but in all industries. How to get more profit? By selling more of their product.

Why? Oh why? Unconditionaly? just ... why? I don't get it. Even if you love the series, and like all past titles, there's no reason to buy a new title that you don't like New game is not past titles.

This has been lately on my mind as well. I'd love for a game to make me feel the way playing Homm 2 did, but I'd have to become a pre-teen again and lets face it, that ship has sailed and it ain't coming back. Naturally we can still blame the company for that, because we are bitter old men.

Well ... it's also the feeling of exploring something new and totally unknown. We've played too many HoMM games and became jaded to it, so whatever is new to the series (even if it's something at the core) will feel like changes on the fringes.

It will take a whole new game concept to enthrall us again the same way that such games did in the past, by giving us something completely new to explore and get lost in with that "one-more-turn" syndrom .
