Emerald dragon is not among my favorite units. I don't favour Arcane Eagle/Simurgh either but at the end they are ok. But necro units are disaster. Lack of color, reused units, they look unfinished, eeeeeeeeeeek!

They shoot in a way similar to their attack in CoH. Just watch the video Avonu posted, it clarifies it all.
Regarding their abilities - both make quite a lot of sense in either melee or shooting units. The one that they get with their base version is even more useful when they are shooters, as when they fight in melee they have to move and get away from the units that are the ones that usually need protection the most - shooters. As shooters, when this ability expires, they can quickly return to combat, while as melee units they would most probably need to make a move to come back to fight.

I see. Still, entangling roots should be reserved for melee, otherwise it would be too powerful to use it as a ranged attack (just bind a flying unit and you already have the upper hand). Even this living shelter is not that much useful when you can strike from afar rather than go defensive. Of course, this is all in theory and needs to be seen how it will work.

when it comes to treants, don't fix what's not broken. They worked fantastically as big ass doorstops with their entangling and turning them to shooters is either gonna make that super weak or extremely OP if you simply use it to block every single enemy unit. seriously, just shoot different targets every turn and they can't do snow.
Of course this wouldn't happen but that would also mean we will lose a very unique and fun ability. shooting treants is freaking stupid no matter how i look at it (unless they throw fruit. then i would forgive it)

- Treants (or at least Ancient Treants) are ranged.
- Dragon breath appears to be default, not an activated ability.
- Emerald Dragons look less derpy at a distance (at least by my reckoning).

Treants... MOVE?
Here's how I see it:
1) Choosing between "walking tank" and "walking tank" is absolutely stupid. Having one of them ranged? Now there's an actual difference.
2) The "dryad heal" bit makes as much sense as the squishy ranged cabirs leaving the safety of the back lines to run out and repair gargoyles and golems.
3) It can't do anything in its "tank" mode over than be a static barrier. Can't attack, can't move, nothing. Yeah, you COULD use it that way if you're pressed for cover, but as a main mode of operation? THAT is retarded.
