Empathy

Empathy's descriptions are not unified as shown in the figures below:



In addition, it seems that the Goblin Support ability always adds Goblin Trapper whether the hero has Goblin Witch-Doctor in his first inventory or not.

Several Inferno heroes, such as Nebiros, still has Hell Hound instead of Succubi as his/her starting armies. Is it intended?

@ThGryphn: it is not that simple, you cannot edit text from a dds file they would need to be reimported, also the purpose of the manual was to explain the skills completely and not explain less than the levelup screen descriptions.

@leania:

Surely, those screens would still be just as explanatory, I don't mean to cut out any information.

I can reimport or even type the text if necessary... I'm just offering my help to try and improve these screens so they're even more useful than they are.

If you say, no thanks, of course I won't insist.

No... I was playing The Art of Strategy, which is the one of the default 1vs1 map, and I didn't install any mods except MMH 5.5... It's weird. BTW, the starting armies of all the Inferno heroes have been changed, right? I mean, the third slot must be Succubi instead of Hell Hound even if the hero is recruited from Tavern.

tavern heroes don't get them for both technical and balance reasons.

@ThGryphn:

here is a file that can be used to import txt and icons in a CAD program of choice, but because of many on the fly changes it is missing some txt and icons that need to be grabbed from the game or aoh:

as i said it will not fit, since if you make the txt smaller the 1024x1024 resolution is not going to make it. I think at best you can make a revised optional add on that only works for widescreen resolutions and remakes the ingame manual to use the entire screenspace.

I have forgotton the exact location of that file but i t must be somewhere in original games data.pak UI/ folder, you should use the search function for instances of 'background'. there may also be other backgrounds available.

After playing campaign and armg maps, it's notable that old AI (Utility) plays much normally and aggressively than the 5.5 AI. Not sure what is wrong. There are too many weird behaviours from the new AI heroes, such as moving to one same point and teleporting back to town every turn, avoiding player heroes even with superior army and so on. It's not a big problem as I can always choose to play using utility, but in Utility, the extra options like 8 skills, hidden artifacts etc cannot be enabled.

Got it. It's the CustomGameCreate background texture.

But that texture is just a tad smaller. Or, put in other words, the skill background textures in 5.5 are about 4% larger (which also make them look blurrier).

Was this done on purpose?

If possible, I'll try to make things fit on the original texture, as it does look prettier.

It seems the size difference is not what I think, it's just the screen scaling...

I just need one thing now: What's the font that's used in the skill headings, "Combat" vs?

Edit: I still need the font type to match the other screens but I did one of the most lengthy skills, Combat. The text content is untouched.



The smaller background here looks much better but I would need to redo other screens too, to match. Also, I had to edit the "ExitButton.(WindowMSButton).xdb" under the Skills folder for matching button placement.

well the texture size is a square so part of it will be cut off, I think the font was bodoni and the smaller txt arial (anything else was less readable)

Maps?

Are there good maps designed for MMH 5.5 specifically? I read the post, http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=41673, which converted the past well-known maps into MMH 5.5-compatible maps. But, those maps don't include several objects that has been added by MMH 5.5.

Would it be possible to make certain creature sounds louder? For example the roar of the emerald dragon is so silent you can almost not hear it.

Ye, pretty dumb of me not to notice that Storm Titans are still ranged, i just assumed they were melee too.

Assuming you get battle frenzy AND amulet of bloody claw AND unicorn bow AND archery then yes gremlins will have quite an impact. But those are a lot of if's and if you get all those items then Storm titans and Mages will be hitting like trucks.

Still think the -1 initiative on titans is a bit overkill.


Also encountered a minor bug: a neutral building (pyre - phoenix recruitment) asks me if i want to convert it to my faction when i try to recruit from it, even though i haven't activated any town/dwelling conversion options. It asks me for 6000 gold, 5 wood and 5 ore. If i choose ok (as in to convert it) it does nothing - the pyre remains the same - and it asks me to convert again if i try to recruit. If i don't try to convert it, it works just fine.
Note that i'm trying to recruit with a secondary hero of dungeon faction - my main faction is academy.

Depends what do you mean under compatible.
If you mean "playing with no issues" - All maps that does not have additional scripts are compatible.

If you mean "having all the variety of H55" the normal maps which are issueless compatible just do not have some of the objects placed because they did not existed at the time so you have to bare with that (there wont be mixed armies, Orc cave, Griffin towers etc, Wagons, Graves etc).

I suggest playing Random Generated Map made by the HoMM ARMG. They have everything you need !

@leania: the best maps for H5.5 are XL maps generated by ARMG, they have much more battle sites amd boss battle sites, which use a skyrim inspired leveling system for map areas so that no matter at what time you enter which area there are always bigger enemies and new loot to find.

@ThGryphn: I think with dredknights idea this looks nice, but I'm curious if those fonts are still readable at lower resolutions and various Af settings.

@uaciat: at the time you can buy titans you can also easily obtain ini boost from artifact, which means the practical initiative is higher.

I'll try with lower resolutions but I trust that it's going to be fine with any setting.

Native on my laptop is 1920x1080 and that causes the image to be scaled up by 50% (since it's 1024x1024), which as you saw is perfectly readable.

I'll try 1024x768 on my laptop in a minute. Does it get any lower res than that?

I have 3440x1440 monitor which I'll also try tomorrow.
