I don't mean to argue per se, but what is it that we would be perceiving faster if the first icon was highlighted on the ATB bar? This is not a sarcastic or rhetorical question, I really do not see it, so please humor me...

perception is a personal thing, the fact that it clarifies nothing to you does not mean the same thing for others, some people do not even play heroes 5 because they find it too difficult to see 3d models on the battlefield compared to 2d sprites.

Hello everyone (I'm new here. Reading for a while, but this is my first post Really love this mod)

Would like to say somethink to new ATB-bar:
I'm often playing inferno and using gating. Small icons blinking if creature is summoned, but big one not (so have go to tooltip).

I believe that the purpose of better GUI is to have a uniform functionality and visualization. When things work the same and look the same they are easier and faster to perceive (for example all airports have the same type of signs, no matter in which country you are it is easy to find your way).

One of the changes you did - fixing the bar design do exactly this. You made the ATB bar design equal to the neighboring one so it looks more pleasant and following the human biases it is better received by the user.

The second change you did, on the other hand, disrupts a uniform functionality - not all boxes in the ATB bar work the same. So the player should always be cautious that something that he may know intuitively is not working as expected, for example - if you hover the big  ATB box you wont see the creature highlighted if it appears a few times more at the ATB bar (just like it would if you hover other boxes in the ATB), or as @cichy said above my post, summons are not blinking on the big ATB box (just like it would in the other boxes).

OK, this is not good, thanks for pointing it out.

I'll post a small pak file (as a hotfix) to revert the ATB bar behavior.

Here: MMH55-ATBHotFix-ShowFirstSmallIcon

@dredknight: I agree about the looks not being uniform, but similar non-uniform visuals were there in the first place (and will be back unless I completely remove the large icon).

Come to think about it, should I? (remove the large icon completely)

Edit: I think I can remove the large icon, while making sure the first small icon is differentiated from the others, so as to make it readily understandable that it's the acting creature/hero. What do you guys think?

I have noticed H6 and H7 atb bars do not use a duplicated first icon, but they can add fx to the first larger icon.

Also the first icon is not in any heroes game located all the way to left of the screen, so people are not used to looking there.

It would probably be best if you can somehow enlarge the first icon with fx and have it placed in position of first small icon, which means it will be like the H6 ATB bar, but if it cannot be enlarged i think i can ony judge it when I see it.

Unfortunately, the game is very rigid about that: I cannot enlarge the first icon, or add fx to the large icon. With all the fx, all icons must be at the same size, unfortunately...

i feel no strong positive or negative reaction to this design.

but i think a colored background will ultimately always not match with a creature that has the same color, for example the gargoyle would look much worse here.

It would probably be better if the last picture was placed in a unique frame but I think we are a bit unlucky with the current UI theme for that.

hm... @Gryphn,  

Could you make the background something blinky instead of just plain color? Blinky things attract attention and believe this is what we need as far as it is not ugly .

You can ignore the above pic, I found a better solution, with the acting creature background matching the faction color (just like in the large icon), and a yellow thin frame around it.

I can't do blinking, but this is as organic and attractive as it gets IMO.

I have one question: Would anyone mind if the left arrow was to the left of all icons, including the first one? This way the ATB bar would start with an arrow and end with an arrow... You could think of the arrows as part of the frame.

If you're referring to the fact that the last creature is cut in half, don't worry about it, I'll fix it

No I meant that if something 'artistic' can be done to make the last stand out in a larger frame for example if you imagine in h7 atb, even if the first icon would be same size as the others it would still stand out because of the frame, :



for example could the hero frame from the creature placement bar be used to make the last icon stand out more?

EDIT: i don't think changing background color or yellow border is good idea, yellow is already the highlight color, people have always looked at this without it being blinky.

I think using frame is more beautiful than changing the arrow positions

hello mario, thanks for the update I think I want ultimately to also upload the dialog files to moddb because they are very hard to find. i was wondering where did you get the polish dialog files for the scenarios (not the campaigns). Are these somewhere available for the other languages as well?

Since I could not find these files on the Internet I found them in the original game (the base and the first addition). In short, all dialog files I unpacked (folder "sounds") from the base and the first addition and compared with folder "sounds" in MMH55-SPMaps-Dialogs-EN.pak (UserMODs folder). I took only the necessary files and put in All_campaigns.dialogscenes_pl together with all campaigns dialog files.
The same I did for txt files of maps and put it in MMH55 Texts PL.zip together with campaign txt files.
I did this about six months ago and somehow forgot to share files with others.
In moddb you already placed this file in Polish Translation RC9 (click in description), but yes is hard to find.  I wrote about it on the Polish forum, so some people know where to find these files.

If you find some time please put Polish Translation RC9a in moddb

Edit: You are right, it is a good idea  to upload the dialogue files it moddb. New players won't know that these files are in Polish Translation RC9, because there is already a next version RC9a.
You want upload only a dialogue files to maps or all texts and dialogues for maps and the campaigns, the way it was done in RC9 (files appear after click in "Description")?
I think the second option (as in RC9 "description") would be better - all you need to campaign and maps in one place.

Actually because soon there will be lot more localization files everything has now be reorganized under addons (this is how moddb normally wants it with language files) and all translation previews have been replaced with country flags to make it much more clear. This will also help me target all moddb browsing lists to get more pageviews.

I will add the link in my signature to make people relearn it quickly
