When you build the 2nd upgrade, you can't recruit the basic creature anymore, and it requires the building to be upgraded once more. So, yes, I can make alternative upgrades, but you'd have to upgrade the dwelling again (though I can set the cost to 0 for the 2nd upgrade) in order to access the alternative. And making an alternative upgrade for every creature means a lot of work. Making 1-2 second upgrades per town requires less work.

You did more work in this patch, than Ubilimbic in H7

Which creatures should get extra upgrades? I'm currently for 2 second upgrades + 1 extra creatures. For necro: ghosts and liches, also flesh golems as extra creatures. For dungeon, perhaps the cave thingies as extra creatures, no idea which creatures should get extra upgrades. Feel free to share your suggestions.

I am, I liked it in H5 and I do it again in H7.
It is really boring if you can build everything you like everytime you wish.

I agree with antalyan. Even in h3 you had to build all the previous tiers buildings before building the champion. You just couldn't see the levels. Also you had prerequisites for building you town hall (guild,blacksmith,tavern etc). It was so boring doing the exact same thing over and over again for each faction!! Now you are presented with an opportunity to make unique choices and think what suits your strategy. I really cannot fathom why this system annoys people that much!!!
Because some factions need the 4 guilds for the champion?? Come on -.-

Its definitely never been just 'build anything anytime', youre assuming things about a game you havent ever played. Like Chris said, there were building requirements that achieved the same purpose you desire with the town level. But with the town levels there is no room for diversifying any build order between factions. Harder to make units with different power levels when they all get built during the same time.

~In h3 wyverns were obviosuly the weakest tier 6 unit but they could be bought the first week and with just wood and gold == FUN
~In h7, who is the weakest tier 6? or strong elite? They're all more or less the same. == NOT FUN

In h3 behemoths were the weakest tier 7 but could also be bought the first week due to low building requirements.
I dont even know who the weakest champion is after probably 500 hours of playing. Because it isn't obvious. They all cost pretty much the same, have similar stats, and get built at the same time and have the same production. There are 12 champions so how are they not more unique lol.

Another thing about the early advantages Fortress and Stronghold had in h3: both of those faction's champion dwelling and unit cost a lot of a rare resource that they could not get through a resource silo. So their were long term disadvantages that made up for their possible early game power.
But onto what Lizard is asking about....
I'd suggest....

For Haven:
3rd upgrade ideas
-Giving the Abbot a 3rd upgrade called 'zealot' with unlimited retaliation to go with its ranged retaliation ability.

-The dire wolf could use another upgrade since they die so fast. Some kind of lunging attack?

Extra Unit: hard to decide. Trying to think of something that isnt a human unit. A griffin rider would be cool or some kind of chimera unit.


For Stronghold:
-That green Wyvern you made could be its 3rd upgrade. Up the 'resistant' to earth into immunity. Some kind of new acid attack that acts like the thunderbirds lighting would be nice.

-The orc warrior doesn't have any abilities besides unfettered. If you could turn him into a wolf rider that'd be awesome either way, a melee version of the slyvan hunter - if it kills a unit, strike again - is what I had in mind.

Extra unit: The ogre magi as a normal elite i guess?


For Dungeon:
-Trogs upgraded look kinda weird...maybe give them a 3rd? Give them a burrow ability to escape harm!!

-I wanna say the hydras if youre open to giving champions a 3rd upgrade. Super expensive but makes them almost as strong as the black dragons.

Extra unit: I really want the manticore back but if not the cave creature works well.


For Slyvan:
-idk what your plans are but i dont like most of their line up so ill just say some kind of sharpshooter/arcane archer unit for the hunter.

Extra unit: fairy dragon for top elite


For Academy:
-Diamond golems that have 75% magic resistance or something.

-Master genies! makes them fast and offensive again.

Extra unit: assuming the dragon golem was replacing the bird then a sphinx possibly for top elite?

Could be Cu Sith, but I think it fits the forest theme more. Though it could be modified a little to fit Haven, but I will let Articun decide where Cu Sith goes

Griffins are in Dungeon, maybe Hypogriff? Or I could modify the lamasu into a chimera, but not sure if that would fit Haven, maybe with wolf head instead of lion head?

That'd be a good idea to make Hydra a viable unit choice against the new blackie. I like it

A sharpshooter would work fine and it's not that hard to make, so I'm fine with this. Still got to work on Sylvan, I hope I can translate the grim reaper's horse animation to the unicorn, and treant instead of the blade dancer. Phoenix as new champion. Not sure if I should release only necro+dungeon+extra upgrades/units for all, or also fix Sylvan before.

Agree, though not sure if I can make it a random spellcaster. But if not I can add some aura, x% chance to cast something on attack and an activated ability.

A sphinx, a gremlin or the dragon golem itself as a strong tanky elite.

Not sure if flesh golem or old wraith as something voidy and a glass cannon elite. Also, maybe the spectral dragon should upgrade into blood dragon? And lich get no extra upgrade.


Also new ghost.


edit: Should I make incorporeal ability like in h5? x% chance to ignore full physical damage
