Addon Impressions!

First addon mission takes about 5 mins to load. Normal battles can take from a few to 10 secs to load. We finally get random skills but we cannot use them in the campaign. The protagonist gets an engineer special that.. gives you all warmachines for free if you don't have them! He also cannot get expert warmachines or God forbid triple ballista! Combat still boring and full of pointlessly long animations.
Check this out!

Runepriest stomps his hammer on the ground once. Then twice! He lifts his hand.. damage! Then he gets morale! He stomps his hammer again! And again! He lifts his hand.. damage!

After having been through 10 mins of this I honestly want to kill someone.

Oh and runes are kinda nice. Enjoy!

from what I saw with the fortress units their abilities are really lame. Dragons and magma elementals just light the ground on fire. Hamsters are like defensive halflings. Rune priests have spirit link totem or something? And they use the word "aura" six times in its description. Upgraded fire Giants have cleave, whoa.  

I'm suprised they didn't give away fortress and make us pay for the update

Shieldguard special gives +5 defense when they are not being flanked. That's kind of lazy.

Also that engineer special? Two out of three starting heroes get it. None of them can get expert warmachines. Honestly.



Btw I am pretty sure they made the game slower compared to original? That or my pc got slower?

Hello.

I haven't followed the series after H5, but I want to try H7. Is this  addon really standalone or do I need the original game files?

rnd skilling is broken for me, im quite dissapointed here,unusual skills are lost upon reload(skils only available through rnd skilling), and the skill Points to, not gonna buy theaddon with such stuff still happening... AI got some improvement it seems but not what i was wishing for yet but didnt Play enough to really tell, there are some other improvements, espacially warfare is noticable, These scale now with the hero and are a lot better, also lots of Bugs have been fixed, however rnd skilling being broken is a huge dissapointment,maybe it works if u have the addon? but i doubt it

So it takes research to enjoy random skills? Dafuq.

I am certainly enjoying the runes. 3x3 area of effect, can be placed or moved anywhere and have an independent initiative. This is the kind of spells I wanted to see in heroes, something to help with battlefield manipulation.

Btw after starting, loading the first campaign map is 2-2.5 mins. Then another 30 secs for the game to respond. Too long.

We can:

If you go your heroes folder there will be a folder saying;

MMH7 > MMH7Game > Config follow that path. You'll get a bunch of .txts

Go to DefaultGame.txt (will open as notepad)

do Ctrl-F search the word 'Skill'

It will take you down to a [MMH7Game.H7RndSkillManager]

Underneath that it will say this

mFullRndSkills=false
mNumOfferAbilites = 2
mNumOfferSkills = 3

If you turn False to True you will enable skilling in all campaign maps. You can then change those numbers to whatever you want and it will offer you more skills/abilities per level up, should the player want this.

Here is a small list of staff I noticed during MP session.

Good things:

1. It was the first session that we actually finished not by error or desync issue. To be honest, AI (heroic) beat us...
2. AI plays more aggressively. It tries to attack your castle with first possible opportunity.
3. AI learned few tricks from Heroes 5 (like moving unit just for few tiles forward in order to cross entire battlefield at the next turn)
4. AI uses wait button clever enough
5. AI  learned how to use obstacles
6. AI learned how to place units next to my ranged units to prevent their range attack
7. AI learned how to flee from a battle and actually does it wisely. It tries to inflict as much damage as he can before he flees
8. AI actually pickups stuff from the ground. When you visit his starting location it's all empty.
9. Simturns are real simturns now. Works great.
10. AI makes his turn pretty fast. Sometimes it even faster than in H6 (no mention H5)
11. Random Skill system is nice and pretty controlled. But it's not easy to turn your mage in Offense/Defense GM (I'd say it's nearly impossible). Never encountered any bug mentioned above.
12. New fresh battle music

Bad things:

1. AI still do dumb things sometimes. Like spaming train of heroes, or standing in one spot for three turns in a row. Still, its behavior is much more full of sense.
2. There are still minor bugs. Encountered some of them, but not critical.
3. According to messages in forums there are still major and gamebreaking bugs. Never encountered them though. Just a matter of time, I guess.

That happened with me when 3 enemy heroes camped outside the sanctuary where one of my heroes was

AI uses wait certainly but to me it looks like it spams it than use it with a plan in mind. The AI certainly looks better though.

Oak said that there is a minor bug which causes AI not using town portal sometimes. Because of this AI sometimes forget 'how to heroes' and standing still

My imprssions

So I got the addon yesterday for a reasonable price on Uplay.


Overall, Fortress was always one of my least favourite factions. I liked Sorceress in Heroes 2, but the whole Dwarven Fortress never sat right with me.

I can say I am impressed with what Limbic did with Fortress. It feels magical, unique, and grounded in its image.

What I love so far about the expansion:

1. Creature desings. Especially champions. God those Dragons!!! This is what Red Dragons should be like! Not Godzillas of Heroes 5. These are just PERFECT. They growl, they lazily walk on the ground, they fly, they are heavy, and powerful, and majestic.. WOW. Completely amazing desing and abilities suit it as well.  Other favorites - glass cannon Valkyries, teleporting Rune Priests and of course the Fire Giants. These can hurl their hammer but also just great to look at!

I even liked Kobolds although was afraid I wouldn't.

Manticores are back and looking great this time,  Phoenix( Fire Bird) is awesome as well.

2. Rune magic.

Great racial skill. Can be used for defense, attack, pressure, or just to decive your opponent into thinking what your next move will be.

I admit its somewhat confusing at first, I am only now starting to visually remember which rune does what.

3. Campaign.

The council hub has been redone and now it looks like 2016. Sort of.

Campaign story is solid, Dwarves are actually interesting, its nice for once to play Dwarves in all their glory and now deserted kingdoms and all that. Characters are believable, objectives make sense. Funny first mission too. Like the new map objects like Rune Boxes.


What I am disappointed in:

1. Creature skills still have not been changed. Disciples still ifre the same Nova as Succubi do, most creature abilities are still too weak and almost non existant.

2. Skill wheel not altered in any way at all. Some skills are still OP, while others are too weak.

3. BUGS. Bears attack twice almost all the time, Rune placement can sometimes be a bit unaccurate, some Runes become unusable for some reason - maybe you know why?

4. Loading times are still a bit too long.

Overall the expansion is a lot of fun and variety. If only the game shipped in the state it is now with all these factions...

Warmachines actually scale with hero levels! Or stats? Whatever, they get stronger. I was wrong, WM are worthwhile even for Hathor that cannot get them to expert. I wouldn't expect them to be any good in a hero fight(unless you can max them maybe?) but they are fine in a campaign. And they also help you skip all those goddamn boring fights. Yay for quick combat.

I like the forge(adv map location) where you combine artifacts into a more powerful one.

Dwarves have some lovely special buildings like the classic treasury and a building that converts wood/ore into gold/rare resources.

A few poorly designed abilities aside I like the dwarven gameplay and lineup. Was pleasantly surprised to not see fire protection/immunity on runepriests Giants and dragons look cool.

New spells!

XP stones that are relevant to mid or lategame! Found one that gave 12k xp and one that gave a lot more



Aand the second addon mission turned out unplayable because when I capture one of the 4 forts that the quest requires, it reverts back to enemy control. So I cannot complete the mission.

So..

STOP ****ING WASTING MY TIME YOU SCRIPT-LOVING WEIRDOS!

Do these people have any idea how many people have quit campaigns or restarted a mission since ubi started that stupid trend? Seriously now. Either do your job right or don't rely on scripts.



Forgot to mention the insane fps drop when you win a battle. It may even get stuck for a bit whereas it was smooth in original game.

And combat loading times are closer to 10 secs when they used to be 2 secs max. That's just terrible.

I've been reading lots of compaints on the fps being almost half compared to original game, especially in main menu.

They did say that due to the new animated main screen there would be less fps.
I only played the new patch yesterday. I don't own the expansion. This time i am waiting a bit.

I was surprised in a good way to see that the AI is now much better. It is not as dumb as before. Indeed WM are better from the start, much stronger and maybe they do scale with hero levels. Also i liked the flavor text each time you pick up an artifact. It was something that was missing from heroes games for a long time
