Putin signs decree allowing Ukrainians to be deported from occupied territory if they represent a security threat. Expect that decree to be followed very, very loosely.

Kiev medias doing what they did from the start, caricaturing and adding stuff.

"Putin also decided that the inhabitants of the occupied Ukrainian territories, who are considered "foreigners" and "posing a threat to national security," the occupiers will be "deported from Russia." In particular, we are talking about people "advocating a violent change in the foundations of the constitutional order", planning "acts of terrorism", supporting "extremism" or participating in "unauthorized actions".

LINK

Which is the source of your article. Beside, these individuals will be send to Ukraine, not to Auschwitz. The article starts with "dictator" Putin, so what to expect as factual information.

In France, any bi-national involved in security threats or specific criminal activity will lose his french nationality and will be send in his country of origins. What about in USA?

So, basically Putin taking normal decisions. That one may speculate they will be applied loosely - in which case it should be condemned, doesn't remove their constitutional validity.

Watched a long interview with a Turkish guy who is married to a Russian and goes up there frequently every year. Here are some highlights from his post-war observations and impressions from the inside:

1- He says the first three or four weeks people were really demoralized but now that seems to be over.

2- He mentions that his social circles are usually upper-middle class, they used to dislike Putin a lot, like upper-class Turks usually dislike Erdogan, but now that is softened and Putin is more popular even among them.

3- He says the economic sanctions seem to be superficial. Companies like McDonalds, Starbucks etc all returned, only with different names. The menus are the same, the prices are the same, the only difference is the Big Mac is now called "insert Russian word." Everyday life seems to be not much different than any other European city.

Last year Kevin McCarthy insinuated that there possibly isn't endless support for Ukraine from US once Republicans take the House. He seems to have gained more intelligence briefings now that he is Speaker of the House as he is totally changing his tune. Russian reporter asked about his previous statements and he replied “No, I vote for aid for Ukraine. I support aid for Ukraine. I do not support what your country has done to Ukraine. I do not support your killing of the children either” Glad to be on the same page finally.

Minor note but still positive: China and India, which have consistently abstained from UN resolutions focused on the Ukraine war that openly condemned Russia, voted in favour for the first time. As did Russia "allies" Kazakhstan, Armenia and Brazil.

More than 20 000 Russian soldiers have been killed in fighting in Ukraine since December and a further 80 000 have been wounded, says the National Security Council spokesman citing newly declassified US intelligence. Might be overestimated but when it comes to Russia US intelligence has been pretty correct from the get go. It warned early that Russia is going to invade, and many thought of it as fearmongering.

Final note: US is establishing military bases in Finland. A few years back I would have been against this, but given the circumstances not anymore.

US military aid to Ukraine is probably going to decrease in the not-distant future even with a second Biden term, because there's more and more pressure to pivot towards the Pacific with military spending, and more spending hikes to do both will be unpopular no matter who is in power in 2024.

It would be nice if Ukraine negotiated an agreement while they are in a (relatively) good position, but I'm not counting on that since the entire country is emotionally charged up since the invasion. Russia can easily keep fighting this war for years and use the public-funded police as a kind of private security detail to crush any protest, because if Russia isn't officially a dictatorship it definitely has the same flavor.

Even tyranny states exhaust, corruption helps a lot. Also if Putin crippled Lukashenko, essentially it won't help him.

Now, that's not exactly what Ukraine said. But it's logical. Counterattack half year ago would absolutely break russian defense.

The same now can't just have the same results. Half year of digging trenches, reinforcing logistic, control over area and training the remaining pilots.

I also believe that UA is still missing some critical technologies, to advance with relative ease. So rushed attack won't cut it.

Just regular old school trenches with sandbags in front are still a major headache for any military in 2023, and Putinstan has spent months fortifying what they've taken, and you can be sure they'll keep doing so.

The thing is, even with plenty of modern options to handle trenches or barriers and other annoyances, those options are expensive, with lots of moving parts and lots of different manufacturers that all have to come together to create the final product, whereas constructing traditional defensives is cheap. Super cheap. Ukraine hasn't been donated fighter jets and it doesn't have much in the way of fancy missiles, and even if they did, they would need to be continuously replaced. Nobody in the West (and this includes the US) has anything remotely close to wartime production capacity, and nobody is going to start either.

One side is keeping begging for weapons in every country it steps in, the other doesn't care. So, who would you think is experiencing heavy loses and  material attrition, a or b?

Beside the point, you obviously didn't watch the link at all.

It is a good criticism towards those in the western left who blame USA/NATO for everything that happens in the world, including the war in Ukraine. On this board for people like Artu. Maybe Galaad as well.

Well ok, thats Vlad Vexler opinion. I watched some of his videos and he sounds like a fanatic to me. "Why Russia starts insane wars", lol.

Care to make a list of who started more insane wars in the past 50 years or so?

Look, many Russian-born opportunists have found the golden goose by spitting on their country, once in the west. My name is Russian and some people often ask me what I think about the conflict (well, they always ask me). If I start nuances, they look elsewhere and don't listen, they're done with me.

What they want is the "democrat free thinker NATO butlicking russian", not the indoctrinated muzhik. Last time I heard infos coming from Russian medias, was when? Well, never. That's it.

Oh, please. Of course I didn't follow the link. When the USSR stopped being a "socialist" country and the iron curtain fell, the whole left-right cosmos has been shaken by a massive earthquake. It wasn't about comparing capitalistic countries led by the imperialistic US vs. socialist countries led by a struggling good-natured USSR anymore. Since then, if any sane leftist has critisized the US - and, frankly, there have been ample reason for that - it didn't automatically mean that Russia was better or anything. Or China. The left is anti-imperialistic by default and therefore against the US, against Russia and against China, because all three are imperialistic. Realistically spoken, Russia is like a criminal organization, the US are a plutocracy and China is an oligarchy.
I consider myself left and I don't blame USA/NATO for everything that happens in the world.

It's the right that is openly flirting with Russia, whether in France, Germany or the US. In the left it's only some leftover romantics who still have their old enemy concept. The problem of the left is that it has become disillusioned about its goals.

Well soviet union used to finance all those old romantics in the western left and western green parties so that does make sense. Russia has financed the western (far)right instead. Considering both ideologies are anti-(foreign)imperialist in their nature they've became a nice mess. The old soviet antinuclear armamanent green movement in Germany never managed to remove nuclear weapons from GDR but it did manage to remove nuclear power from Europe's most powerhungry nation. Just 40 years later. Similarly they managed to sell Nord Stream 2 to the left but shut it down themselves right as it was about to finish. And both of these are directly against both ideologies. Nuclear power is way greener than the coal that replaced it and buying gas from an autocratic russia. So let's see what mess the right manages to cook up in 20-30 years time. They'll probably finance immigration from Africa or something.

Completely irrelevant. His arguments still stand, regardless of his opinions or how he sounds, as long as he has facts to base those arguments on.

Because there are none left. They have shut them all down or forced them to leave the country. All that's left is the Kreml message. But you know all this and that's why you brought it up in the first place.

His arguments stand for you maybe, because this is what you are feed with, since you smear wishful thinking like "russian people either left the country or are ideologically enslaved". This is not a fact, is just you blindly following you heard here and there and not being curious to know more. Is like Biden asserting "you ain't black if you don't vote for me". One way thinking, no other possible.

His whole narrative builds from the hypothesis that Russia is or has imperialistic views. For me, in the actual context, seeing who expands militarily and who doesn't, that is untrue.
