Do we need more evidence that HC should move to admin authorization of new users?

@Cor: A part of me agrees with you, however wouldn't that be a bit... radical? Since Val is rarely active I'd say that the doors would be closed to those newcomers who actually contribute to the community.

I guess that simply the request of a valid email address with confirmation through, will be enough. Each time you want to register a new account, you will have to click a link from your email-box. No hotmail or yahoo allowed.

Why would hotmail or yahoo not be allowed ?

Good point, kip. Then I would propose the following:
1. 1 hr (or more) delay between registration and ability to post.
2. Valid email address required for registration.
2. Email address can only be used once. (I.e., software remembers email addresses that have been used.
This should slow down the riff-raff.

Because you can make a new hotmail or yahoo adress in a couple of seconds.
Heroes fans should feel they are welcome, not feared or delayed. Thus the delay between registration and post is not good idea IMHO.

How about instead of 1 hour for posting, first 2 hours after registering requires capchas to be filled. Extra work for trolls, but people who genuinely want to post something will bear it, especially if it wears off later.
Plenty of innocent people also register using hotmail and yahoo, so we can't just start blocking free email services.
The keeping of previously used emails is a good idea.
If only there was a way to block them by the MAC address of their NIC card.

Well of course it'd be an inconvenience to new users who have good intentions and want to contribute. It all depends on your priorities I guess. It'd be nice if new users could just come here and post responsibly from the get go. It'd also be nice if you could board an airplane without waiting in line for an hour so that a government agent can massage your testicles and look for explosive devices. That's the price of protection. Is forcing new users to wait an hour too steep a price to pay to protect HC from the kind of puerile nonsense we've seen today?

I think you are taking this thing a bit too CIA, this is just a forum, most of us love heroes, most of us are here to have fun.
My mail is hotmail, and if I had to jump through hoops just to post I wouldnt be here at all (and I'm not claiming that I'm an important member I'm just saying that many newer members would feel just like me and would simply say "its not worth the trouble")...
You all need to lighten up a little bit, someone decided to troll for a day, I missed it so maybe thats the reason as to why I didnt get annoyed by it but what harm was done ?
If someone trollin you for one day on the internet gets you into such radical mood that you would turn the forum into guantanamo bay, I suggest you reassess being a part of the forum at all Nothing happened peeople, there's nothing to see here, keep it moving and go back to having fun

If you want a troll stop trollin', you have to STOP feeding him! He will get bored, and we mods only have to delete 1 or 2 posts. Now I had to delete 20 or so....and that's just this thread....

Val,
A "delete all posts by user X" option would really help out the mods to deal with the trolls. Imagine the troll's face when a hour of trolling is annihilated with a single button click. Ha. Priceless.

That, along with active moderators and an IP ban, is all you need really.

I agree with Ceph the other meassures would just make it needlessly hard for new people to join and we wouldn't want that. Seeing as how new moderation is at the horizon that delete button (perhaps accessable by any mod regardless of where the post is posted) should really solve it all. Not to mention we hardly ever get troll outbreaks like this anyways .

I'm just wondering and I know it's a very minor thing, but can the censor system be reverted to normal now? I hate having certain words replaced by "snow". It makes the post look incredibly stupid because there are some words that are censored that aren't actually bad. Also, somebody might say snow and somebody might think it's a swear word. It's just stupid. It should, in my opinion, be reverted to normal and have it back to *'s and people can censor their words if they want (and if not they get penalised). It's not funny and it just looks stupid.

Angelito is more right on this that you would easily believe. I think it would be better if HC adopted a no recognition policy towards trolls and bots - we simply pretend they aren't there. I also think that a 2 hour delay after registering would be terrible, since some people register so that they can add a question or give feedback directly to ubisoft, and aren't all that interested in the community.

I suggest that HC members get an automatic HCM when they get a QP or penalized. Particularly in the latter case, as these are not kept track of the profile and members often find they've been penalized at some point and don't know when (by comparing how many QPs they should have and how many they actually have).
