Enjoyed watching that match, was well worth staying up late to watch it. Madrid were smashed in all areas, Barca totally dominate.

Anyone following the European Cups?
Lyon - Apoel
Lyon qualified after the most obvious match fixing in recent history, and then got so lucky in the draw. I just hope Apoel can once again defy odds and qualify.
Napoli - Chelsea
I dislike both teams, but it would be nice to see a new face in advanced stages. Chelsea are in horrible form, maybe this is the last chance for AVB. They will fight desperately to go far in Europe, and should qualify. Napoli lack any kind of experience at this level, they made it to the knockout stage for only the second time in the last two decades.
Milan - Arsenal
Since 06/07, Milan never made it past this round, and each time they were eliminated by an English team. This season they really must break the curse and proceed.
After many years of trying, they finally switched generations and assembled a strong side. Arsenal are without a future at the moment.
Basel - Bayern Munich
Basel deserve huge credit for eliminating Manchester United, especially since the Reds tend to cruise through the group stages. Bayern, however, lack any sense of humor, they shouldn't have big problems with this tie. They have extra motivation because they host the final, the scene is set for a good European season for them.
Bayer Leverkusen - Barcelona
Barcelona should qualify. Bayer are not in the best shape, even if they won a group with Chelsea and Valencia.
CSKA Moscow - Real Madrid
Real have earned a reputation of a goal scoring machine. They demolished Tottenham last year, and CSKA are not better than the Spurs. Easy one for Real.
Zenit - Benfica
This is the most evenly-matched tie. Really anybody could qualify. Zenit already dumped Porto, which finished above Benfica last season. However, this year Benfica seem to be the best Portuguese side.
Marseille - Internazionale
Marseille qualified in a rather strange manner. They were 2-0 down at half time and scored twice after the 85th minute to beat Dortmund 3-2 and reach the knockout. That was not entirely fair, but Inter are not immaculate either. They surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to CSKA Moscow, just the scoreline need for the Russians to snatch second spot.
Inter are better, should put Marseille aside. Although both teams should have at least tried to be more discrete in the group stages.

I really missed this thread. Good to see you back romanian buddy.
Lyon - Apoel
Lyon wins this one, Apoel is one of the weakest team this far in champions league in a long time. Though they do deserve a lot of credit, sending out earlier Europa League winners such as Porto and Shaktar.
Napoli - Chelsea
I find Napoli below the level of this competition, however they qualified by defeating Manchester City, so they certainly deserve to be here. Chelsea is sadly far from previous levels. Once the world consisted of Chelsea vs. Barcelona with AC Milan as outsiders and Liverpool as the stranger. Then as time passed, Chelsea weakened, yet they were still strong. For many seasons, but they kept on getting weaker. Nowadays they don't seem to be anything special. England have lost their international dominance. The english league hasn't gotten stronger with the rise of Tottenham, Newcastle, etc.
Still, I prefer stability, so I hope for a Chelsea victory.
Milan - Arsenal
I too made the same observation as you and heck it was Arsenal, with a win 2-0 away against Milan on San Sio after 0-0 on Highbury in the first match, that Milans curse began. I think it'll be a close match. Both teams are far from previous years strength and I'll say it's 50/50 in this match.
Basel - Bayern Munich
Basel indeed, like Apoel and Napoli, deserves their spot here. They're not a side to be underestimated, they're indeed strong, but it wasn't the first time United dissapointed in group matches after they had etablished their strength. In any case, I also think Bayern wins this one. I think they find Basels style more fitting than United and Bayern, despite not being the dominant german team anymore, is probably going to win this one rather easily.
Bayer Leverkusen - Barcelona
If we compare with the early 2000's, Barcelona is the only top team which have gone forward, the rest have gone back in quality. Barcelona have been so smart that they don't only have a team of great quality with little tactic, like most others teams seem to. No they've a world renown concept which defeats opponent after opponent. Barcelona should hopefully go through.
CSKA Moscow - Real Madrid
Real Madrid will most likely easily win this match, Madrid have showed that they don't have trouble with teams outside the absolute top of the world. One might wonder what would have happened, had they met any of the Manchester teams, but as it looks now, the tournament will be between them and the team they seem to lose to again and again, Barcelona.
Zenit - Benfica
I don't know who'll go through here. I'll guess it's 50/50 like Arsenal - AC Milan. I think the winner of this match will be the dream opponent for all other winners.
Marseille - Internazionale
Inter Milan, though not the superior italian team anymore and seems weaker than before, they should still go through, despite Marseille shouldn't be underestimated. That despite Marseille is far from the strength of the 90's.
In my opinion, this is one of the least interesting times of champions league. The teams aren't evenly enough matched and any surprise would just have a bad taste in my mouth.

@Drako: I watched it, it really is incredible how good Arsenal used to be.
Barcelona won pretty easily, 3-1 away. I didn't watched Lyon-Apoel, so I can't really tell. They won 1-0, scored in the 60th minute, but I want them to be eliminated for what they did in the game against Dinamo Zagreb.
Europa League also starts. We already had two games, and perhaps two surprises
Rubin Kazan - Olympiakos 0-1
Braga - Besiktas 0-2
The Greek goalkeeper parried a penalty, and Olympiakos scored near the end of the game. The match was played on Luzhniki because of the cold in Kazan, and somehow I feel the attendance wasn't very big. This must have mattered.
Besiktas really pulled an upset. Not only Braga are last year's finalists, but Besiktas were beaten 1-8 last year in the same stage by Dinamo Kiev.
Tomorrow we have the other 14 fixtures. By far, the most important is the match between Steaua and Twente. We host the final in May, and must progress as far as possible this year. Twente is manageable, we played against them in the group stages in 09/10, and made two draws (1-1 in Bucharest and 0-0 in Enschede). If we qualify we will play against the winner between Schalke and Viktoria Plzen.

City and United will not wish to waste their best players on the EL.
I don't want to see them here anyway, and I don't have a ticket to the final!
My ideal final has to be Valencia - Besiktas, unless they meet earlier, or V. gets knocked out by lazio...
AC Milan 4-0 Arsenal, wow.. I like my clip better

Barcelona's two games with Chelsea... I don't even...
Especially the first one, with all of those close misses... That crossbar over the goalies head was so aggravating.
And to top it all, they had 80% possession 1st game, and 2nd game (Right?) as well! Come on, Barca!
The PK in the second game that hit the crossbar was painful too; but you can't blame Messi for losing it because he assisted the second goal.
Still, Barcelona is so much better than Chelsea... It's just that Chelsea could deliver all of its opportunities, while Barcelona missed so many...

Bayern are a team full of thugs and cheats. Seriously, so many trips and free kicks given to Real Madrid and deservdely so. They deserved to win. Stuffed up some chances but soccer is a funny game. Ribbery (spelling?) and Robben are both cheats and they are nothing but divers. Funny how many people got yellow cards. Are they and Chealsea even going to field a team for the final?

Barca had no excuse though. A missed penalty, Chelsea played without John Terry, the spaniards had a two-goal lead and yet Chelsea qualified... losers weepers.

It was a tie, and the penalty hit the crossbar. Also, Chelsea's second goal shouldn't have happened if they had defended Torres. But then again, they definitely shouldn't have lost the first game 1-0. Just a bad tournament for Barca, I guess.

My predictions haven't been exactly accurate lately, , but I think it'll be Munich. Not with a high score though, probably either 1-0 or 2-1. What do you think?
