Lots of fouls and probably a record number of cards. Not the best of finals. Spain was better,Holland had those big chances by Robben but other than that Spain was all over them.
Too bad I decided to root for the Dutch before the final
Edit: And it seems Forlan won the Golden Ball.I'd say he deserves it,yes he didn't play in the final but still he performed well in most matches and he was the main man of Uruguay,a team who was not expected to do this well.

How do I step up my game? Right now I'm close to zero. In the finals every 3 or 4 seconds I saw somebody doing something that I don't know how to do. So where do I learn those l33t ball handling skills? :/

So the WC 2010 is over and I think Germany did quite well, better than many would have thought they could.
I have to repeat my quote from june 15th on page 15 of this thread, refering to the talents of the german players:
Quote:
Quote: Well ok, but Germany hardly has strong individual talent either.
Phillip Lahm Counted as one of the best right defenders in the world
Bastian Schweinsteiger Upcoming no.6 in the world. ALready compared with Xavi from Spain
Miroslav Klose Scored 5 goals in the last 2 Worldcup tournaments each. Is now ranked 4th in all time scoring table
Toni Kroos Voted as best player of the U20-Tournament last year
Mesut Özil Probably the best german technical player
Thomas Mueller Played 3rd league 1 year ago. Now he claimed 2 titles with Bayern Munich, reached Championsleague final, took the place of Gomez and scored in his first WC game
I would say that's enough individual talent for a german team.....
Philip Lahm ended on place 4 in the FIFA Castrol ranking of all players participating in that WC (look here
Bastian Schweinsteiger nominated as 1 of the 10 contenders for the award "best player of the tournament"
Miroslav Klose scored again 4 goals (and NOT vs no-name countries..) and is only 1 goal short to Ronaldo who is still no.1 in all time scorer ranking
Toni Kroos It's a petty he hasn't had more chance to show his skills. Coach Loew prefered Podolski. But everytime he got his chance, he showed good action.
Mesut Oezil also nominated as 1 of the 10 contenders for the award "best player of the tournament"
Thomas Mueller A 20 year old who won the golden boot for being the top scorer of the tournament, and also won the award of being the best young player of this tournament says enough I would say.
So I stick to my previous statement above:
I would say that's enough individual talent for a german team.....

All in all this was a Tourney of Series of most unfortunate events... although it could be very exciting because many times i was thinking yes this team has a chance to be next World Champion. Then they where beaten by some 2nd class team.....
Spain isn't for the best team in the world... but still it is the tournament plus referees mistakes plus new wacky ball plus different heights of matches plus wuwuzela equals series of unfortunate events....
maybe 2014 Brazil will be the real World Cup......

Bracket elimination never was a highly accurate method of determining the best, but it's the most realistic way to do it. Every team playing every team would just take too long.
GG Spain. I was traveling on Sunday and forgot to have somebody record the game, derpa der

Lahm - Castrol ranking is a poor concept imo. Stats do not tell the whole story and do you honestly believe their method? Soccer is not a heroes spreadsheet. You would choose Lahm over Sergio Ramos, Maicon, Dani Alves, Van der Wiel etc.? I agree he is as good as them but neither does he stand out from the pack.
Scwheinsteiger - agree, he was good throughout the tourney and killed Argentina
Klose - ok he scored and is high ranked on the goal chart. No complaint here.
Kroos - played maybe ten minutes in the whole tourney. Not enough info imo.
Oezil - was quite good in the group stages but I feel he faded in the later rounds. I can't remember anything he did against Spain. Still a good player but Forlan was more deserving of the award.
Muller - His awards speak for themselves.
In closing Germany did have a good tournament but no one remembers the the third place team, only the champions.
______________
England better bring in some new blood fast. Brazil will bounce back quickly. Holland were so **** in the final. De Jong should have been sent off clearly. I was glad to see Forlan win the award, he was my choice even before they announced the names. Spain deserved the cup win. Congrats to them for their first ever victory. The Dutch of course are blaming the ref but that is nonsense. The cards were justified.
Did you guys see that *ahem* twitter promise if Holland won the cup? 60,000 is a lot of doing.

*ahem* [what else does one do when games are so exciting that one doesn't bother watching replays of games one misses]
It seems universal then that losing inevitably blame ref {except perhaps Germany did not seem to do that so much in their lost game...maybe}...ah so much is down to interpretation of the ref [I don't mean the final tho], I don't know if I'll follow future world cups with as much enthusiasm anymore
anyway, here's a website that may be of interest to those who like to study tactics (or lack thereof) www.zonalmarking.net...I found it quite enlightening to look into different formations & counters.

The Champions and Europa League qualifiers finally reach the interesting stages.
In the third Q round of the CL, the only really exciting match I see is Zenit vs Unirea Urziceni. The Russian team needs no presentation, while the Romanians were one of the pleasant surprise of last year's group stages, where they lacked only one point to go through, and were dropped to the Europa League as the best third placer (i.e. with the best results in the groups). Zenit favorites, tough,
Other interesting games include Celtic - Braga (a question between which teams sucks less), Debrecen - Basel, Bate - Copenhagen, Sheriff - Zagreb.
In the Europa League, Liverpool will face FK Rabotniki (how do you spell that?) from Macedonia. Roy Hodgson has some squad problems, as he would rather not use the players that just returned from the World Cup. Besides, he can't successfully integrate new signings until next week, but still, it should be a very easy win for Liverpool.
Juventus will play against Shamrock Rovers from Ireland, but with Juve you can never be too sure.
The odds were favorable with Romanian teams. Timisoara will face lowly MYPA (9th place from Finland, they were added in the EL thanks to those Fair Play rankings). Dinamo has a little harder mission, tackling Hajduk Split, but Croatia has only team, and that is Dinamo Zagreb (and not even those are very good, they almost got eliminated by Koper). Timisoara starts in this round, Dinamo comes after a comfortable 7-1 aggregate win over Olimpia Balti from Moldova. I'm sure both of our teams will go through to the play-offs (hopefully Unirea won't join them).

LOL, Scottish football is toast. And last year's Braga were a fluke.
And not anybody can finish second to a team that was squashed 1-4 by Unirea Urziceni.

Oh, come on. Did I praised Unirea in my first post, and then added that because of Unirea's awesomeness, and only because of that, both Celtic and Braga are horrible teams?
But Unirea are cool. Of course I like to brag about how well they did last year.
I hardly see Braga capable of repeating their good performances in the Portuguese League, and the two Scottish teams Rangers and Celtic really became much worse in the last three years. You can't disagree, at least not with the second thing.

Zenit seem to be favorites in every aspect against Unirea, being undefeated leaders in the Russian championship.Sure I would like Unirea to pull off a surprise again but I doubt it.Unirea's performance last year doesn't matter here,as I doubt Zenit will play like Rangers at Ibrox or score own goals
On the other hand even if Unirea loses it won't be that bad they will still play in the Europa league, where they may face an easier opponent than they would in the Champions league play-off.
I dislike that with this new format even more teams are dropped from the Ch.League to the Europa League, which also means 12 groups in the EL ,sometimes I like the plain knockout format better.
Two of my favorite teams,Liverpool and Juve are stranded to the EL for this season because they had terrible last seasons for their standards.I'd like one of them to win for sure, but I think they will try to focus more on finishing higher in their leagues so they can return to the Champions League.

My mother personally knows the Uruuguay's football team's doctor and interesting gossip it was:
After its last game against Germany the players appeared in the Uruguayan's room, they handshaked everyone the germans formed a line. and applauded the uruguayan team.
My personal experience tells me that europeans are very hard to compliment any south american effort no matter the subject...
