Especially when there's an actual Ideas and Suggestions thread. And it's pinned too, so it should be almost bloody impossible to miss.

Hi folks
The facebook page for HotA teased new units more than a week ago.
Anyone has info? Maybe they forgot about their facebook following.

MapEd virus?
Hi, since I can't create a new thread as a new user, I thought I'd do it here:
Recently I wanted to create a map using the Hota 1.6.1 map editor and my McAfee identifies the .exe as a virus. VirusTotal gives 17 positive recognitions of this file as a virus. This is by far a minority and some of the big names (Kaspersky or Avast) don't recognize it as a virus, but I'm still hesitant to use it.
Any thoughts? Did I download a corrupt file for some reason? Or is it a known issue and I shouldn't worry about it?

I don't think anyone here could totally proof if there is or isn't a virus in that file. Modded known programs cause false alarms, this is very known issue with any modded products. I don't think there has ever been a Hota nor HD version which would have gotten a "100% safe status."

HotA FAQ, section 29, says:
My antivirus software warns me of potential issues with the installer file, or during updating HotA/HD-mod. Should I be concerned?
No, you should not. Most of the advanced market-leading antivirus suites usually have no issue with these files. Some of the lesser solutions, especially free ones and those developed in China, use the most basic heuristic analysis mechanisms, potentially causing false alarms with applications that in fact do not contain any harmful code. You may refer to virustotal.com and get confirmation that the bulk of existing antivirus programs find our files safe for use.

I thought it was the update on the Juggernaut: https://www.facebook.com/h3hotaofficial/videos/598148430916108/
At least it looks pretty nice. I wonder how HoMM3 would look like in this style.

Not really, it's just a post containing a lovely piece of fan art. The actual informational update is coming in a few days.

That's great news!
Question:
I've been wondering if the new relic artifact Plate of the Dying Light was intentionally put to the torso slot, which have traditionally been the main source of spell power. Aside from the angelic alliance artifacts, there are only few ways you can boost your spell power with items. So in order to block some of the opponent's spell power with the new artifact, player ofc can't wear SP boosting torso items - which will likely lead into a situation where you're actually cutting more SP from yourself than your opponent.
So, was this something you though of, or should it perhaps be changed into a Shield of Dying Light, perhaps?

That's a good point, in most cases you would probably prefer to have more power, than to lower enemy heroes power...
I don't think that would change, if it was a shield instead though.

The shield was mainly an example, as they clearly wanted to use a slot that have normally been used to increase stats (head/main hand/off-hand/torso)
To add a bit more to my argument:
I can understand if you (hota team) wanted to use torso slot because it's spell power related, but as it's more like an anti-SP item, you could have taken liberties and used another slot. I'm not saying that the item is somehow useless or something like that, but it sure is far less appealing after you realise what I just said.

They could have used the same slots as the 3 resistance artifacts, they are trying to replace anyway...

Or you could use the power artifact when fighting creatures and the Plate when fighting heroes.

I suppose, but like mentioned above you would probably want to have more power yourself than to decrease the enemys.
If you have the +4 attack and +4 defense armor or the +10 power (-2 knowledge) armor chances are you would equip one of these instead.

Sadly, I don't think it's possible right now. In order to do that you would need a complicated script, which nobody created yet (at least that's what I know). But you can still create a SoD map in WoG and import it in HotA (even if its a map made with an image). You can also copy-paste modified objects (quest guards, dwellings, rocks, etc., but not castles and seer huts) from WoG to HotA, as long as HotA has the sprite for that object.
Edit: Looks like you can, but you have to remove WoG objects first and then save the map as SoD.

Today Docent released some very good looking wasteland 3D art on his Youtube channel. (no new content, it's just art)

Not sure what you're talking about. Maybe you should read the question again.

You can try to remove all the WOG related stuff from the map at first and kinda downgrade the map to a SOD level. Then the Hota map editor should properly be able to open the file. You might want to to create a backup file before testing, thou. It will not be possible to just "force" Hota editor to read the WOG file, it will not work for sure, as the files are simply too different.
