Yeah, the other way round makes no sense. Highly unprobable they started designing a few portraits and went on with brainstorming "Now what kind of heroes could these make for?".

So you guys think Vey's biography was created first and then someone made a portrait of a goblin, when it should in fact have been of an ogre?
Well like Hourglass said there is no way to be sure, but it's possible.
I still prefer the original portrait of Vey though.

Well yeah that was one of the first thing I disliked about all of these towns. The copy/paste thing for portraits. Imho they need to be replaced over time. The change of Vey ist alright... 'coz I also wondered about it in the past -> it is an ogre but has a goblin portrait. I also understand that drawing lizardmen, goblins e.g. isnt that easy compared to drawing people. Anyway... Kinkeria is well done... except her specialty.

To come back to topic...
The small Creature Icons look a little more "unsharp" to me, is this intended? I would prefer a little more intense outlining

Thieves Guild

Hello all, just a tiny bug in hota (I think): the Thieves Guild (of Cove town) does not include  standing army in a city. So, the result for kingdom army strength depends only on the creatures of all heroes of a player combined, but not on those creatures in a player's cities. I think it should include all of it since it says "kingdom army strength", and cities are part of a kingdom, right?

I was playing a HotA map, Scorched Earth, and noticed some decorations I never saw before so I went to look in the map editor and I couldn't find any of then.

I copied and pasted some decorations in this image.



This is a bug or what? This are really cool decorations that mapmakers could make a good use.

The red trees were removed from the object list because the quality was no longer up to their standard (and they might be redone in the future). The waterfalls and fire are just really trash rips from H4 and so were removed for a good reason. Personally I would ditch the couple animal defs (pig, chickens, frogs) from H4 as well but for now they are still in.

Using the removed objects in your map has a risk of the map becoming unplayable on a later version of the mod where those graphics are no longer included in the lod.

Good to know that.
Waterfalls has a weird graphic but the fires are pretty nice and could be use in many ways. Anyway thank you!!!

When filtering maps using the map size buttons, the creation date is wrong. HotA maps were not made in 1999

I think it's using the creation dates from the "All" filter, since my second map there is "All for One" (I have an Unnamed above it, most people have it first), which indeed has the modification date 28.03.1999.

(P.S) Ignore the fonts, I have changed them to the original because I don't like the new ones that much.


EDIT: This is a bug in the original game. However, I didn't notice it because all dates were in the year 1999-2000.

You dopn't know if they will ever be removed. In fact, it's better to keep them if only for compátibility.

Sure, I was just paraphrasing something one of the HotA devs said about those objects a long time ago. Doesn't change the fact that using those low quality objects (apart from the red trees imo) that were intentionally removed from the map editor by the devs isn't advisable

Well, if they don't like them, they can always replace the sprite while keeping the object identifier. That way maps will still work.

Red trees look fine IMO.

I know these threads here are pretty irrelevant with the constant off-topic spam and the team probably only reading the Russian forums, but I'll post this anyways since I just saw it.



"Surprisingly" is misspelled on the Vial of Mana pickup message. (Only visible when the HD mod option to show these messages is enabled.)

Also, it would be great to be able to write a custom message for these, just like you can do for resource pickups.

Small stuff in 1.7.0:
Halfling dwelling on adventure map is named "Halfling Hut", while it's "Halfling Adobe" in town. I guess it should also be named Halfling Adobe on the map.
Cannon has the description "Battle machine", but the others are called "War machine".

A small bug, but a bug nonetheless:

In HotA Intelligence is supposed to be 20/35/50, well if you have a hero with 10 Knowledge and Advanced Intelligence, he will have only 134 spell points, so +34% instead of 35%.
This can be easily fixed by setting the percentage to 35,001% or something like that, so it does'nt get rounded down.

It's because 0.35f/d (both float and double) ~ 0.34999999 < 0.35. The right way to handle such cases is to use integer division instead of floor() (K * 10 * 35 / 100 will give +35 bonus points of mana for K = 10 precisely as expected). Another way is to test final results of division against epsilon and correct it before rounding down.

If you right click on the Logistics skill it gives the wrong image. All other skills show themselves at the current level, Logistics just shows a sepia toned version of Basic Logistics no matter what.

Hello everyone,
During the game I noticed that in the unit window (all levels, upgraded and not upgraded) for the Factory there is a citadel in the background. For units from other cities there is a castle. I think it will be much more consistent if the Factory units in the unit window have a castle in the background instead of a citadel.

Probably a preference, but the green movement path in main adventure window is noticeably darker /faded around the edges /less solid than plain HDMOD.
