Finally someone who agrees that Lightning Bolt isn't overpowered, especially with all of the regeneration-like abilities currently in standard, such as unearth or persist.
The only thing I forsee changing is that red decks will have better removal for cards like Figure of Destiny, Rafiq, and Plainswalkers. However lightning bolt would certainly not be overpowered.

Quote: So exactly how many creatures were played in recent big Standard tournaments that can be killed by Lightning Bolt but not Shock?
Reveillark, Rafiq of the Many, Cloudgoat Ranger
Did I miss anything?
Actually most red decks didn't run shock as it only dealt 2 damage. Simply useless when you compare it to volcanic fallout. Incinerate and Flame Javelin were played instead.
The only change this is going to make is that you might see Lightning Bolt thrown into some Naya Sligh Decks instead of Path to Exile.
But for the most part this isn't a very common archetype seeing as how the format is dominated by mid-range aggro/control decks and token decks.

1 Mountain
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Baru, Fist of Krosa
4 Centaur Rootcaster
4 Civic Wayfinder
4 Harmonize
4 Blanchwood Armor
4 Fireball

@rarensu there is going to be a From The Vault : Banned (or something)
The only problem with lightning bolt is the same as counterspell... by no means is it overpowered but it is just so efficient that just about anything else at its cost is either underpowered or borked.

With the popularity of Kitchen Finks, I somehow doubt Lightning Bolt would manage to push Magma Spray out completely. And Incinerate would still be viable with Bolt around if there were any constructed playable regenerators around. (Some argue in favor of Kathari Remnant, but...)
Until rotation that is.

#Lord Wook# About your deck: What does the deck focus on? Much land, to get the x/x token or?
You can use Boggart Shenanigans to make a Tarfire into half lightning bolt and half lava spike.. It's cute..
I had two goblin tokens, one Raging Goblin, furnace of wrath, boggart shenanigans, and then i fired two tarfires on my opponent.. 8 damage from the tarfires, and 4 damage because of Boggard.. Then i decided to attack with all my goblins, because he could either let them pass and lose 6 life or block them and still lose 6 life.. I know it's late in round 5, but the oppoent died because in round three i did some burn with a simple Shock..

The deck? I guess its main gameplan is gathering a lot of land via repeatedly connecting with the Rootcasters, then winning with Baru's wurm tokens (managed a 17/17 token once), Fireball or Blanchwood Armor.
One game I had two Rootcasters at 11/11 and growing thanks to the blanchwoods. Then I played and enchanted a third.
EDIT: Um, please note that Tarfire won't trigger Boggart Shenanigans.
Quote:
Whenever another Goblin you control is put into a graveyard from play,
Tarfire never is in play.
EDIT: Alright, I abandoned that druid deck and my current project is exploiting Fractured Loyalty.
Right now I'm thinking of Akki Drillmaster to be able to swing with the creature the turn I steal it, as well as Vedalken Mastermind to reuse Fractured Loyalty and prevent restealing.
Any advice?
EDIT: I'm tossing in Drift of Phantasms and Muddle the Mixture to fetch my three main pieces.

I prefer using duplicate combo pieces instead of search. Here are the substitutes for each combo piece:
*Captivating Glance - a decent Fractured Loyalty substitute
*Custody Battle - a substandard Fractured Loyalty substitute
*Tolarian Sentinel - a decent Mastermind substitute, but negates your card advantage.
*Cloudstone Curio - a substandard Mastermind substitute; you have to have two enchantments to make it work.
*Cache Raiders - a poor Mastermind substitute; mana-intensive
*Words of Wind - a substandard Mastermind substitute; it negates your card advantage, but it puts tempo pressure on your opponent.
*Aura Graft - one-time Fractured Loyalty recycler, hoses opposing auras.
*Boros Guildmage - a good Akki Drillmaster substitute
*Whip Sergeant - another good Akki Drillmaster substitute
*Sootstoke Kindler - an excellent Akki Drillmaster SB substitute against black/red
*Bloodthorn Taunter - an excellent Akki Drillmaster SB substitute against fatties
*Need for Speed - a substandard Akki Drillmaster substitute
In addition, your combo is creature-based and therefore requires protection.
*Soratami Rainshaper - can trigger the Fractured Loyalty and protect your combo pieces.
*Protective Bubble - can trigger Fractured Loyalty and give you a win condition against defensive decks, or protect your combo pieces.
*Glen Elendra Archmage - counters those annoying kill spells, works great with mastermind, emergency win condition.
*Synod Sanctum - the only sanctuary that returns the removed cards to play under your control instead of their owner's control, giving your stolen creatures an additional permanent stolen life (w00t!). Can be used as a substandard Fractured Loyalty recycler. Can rescue your combo pieces.

First of all, Lightning Bolt and The Rack are in M10, so it's a safe bet that a ok of other über efficient cards will see reprint just due to the stark and ingenuitive nature of the set.
And one would speculate that mini tribal themes are going to make it in as well, judging on Child of Night and Vampy Nocturnus so far.
As per the overpowered things, the reason why they haven't seen print is becuasw they are more efficient than any card in standard. Core set are meant to be the lifesblood of useful cards for every deck. What would 10th be without it's Sifts, incinerates, an terrors?

Currently I'm working on a Storm Cauldron Deck.
Here are my initial ideas.
Spells: (23)
2 Ankh of Mishra
3 Slow Motion
4 Remand
4 Storm Cauldron
1 Warped Devotion
3 Evacuation
1 Ghostly Prison
2 Crystal Shard
3 Rhystic Tutor
Creatures: (7)
4 Magus of the Tabernacle
3 Dirtcowl Wurm
Lands: (30)
4 Fieldmist Borderpost
4 Firewild Borderpost
4 Mistvein Borderpost
4 Veinfire Borderpost
4 Wildfield Borderpost
4 Gemstone Mine
4 Blasted Landscape
2 Tendo Ice Bridge
If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve this deck, I'd be much appreciated. The gameplan is to drop storm cauldron and either anhk of mishra or warped devotion.
The manabase works surprisingly well since Gemstone Mine and Tendo Ice Bridge synergize with the Borderposts extremely well. The Blasted Landscape's are the only cycling land that doesn't come into play tapped. Borderposts are already fairly slow, so you have to be able to tap your land the turn you play it. I'm thinking of cutting my borderposts to 18 and dropping the Ice Bridge to add 4 Mind Stone. That way my 30 lands will end up being only 22 lands, after cycling.
Slow Motion gives lots of card advantage and tempo, especially post Storm Cauldron. Add that to my 4 Remand, 4 Blasted Landscape, and possibly 4 Mind Stone, I should have plenty of card draw as well.
Evacuation is simply amazing tempo, post storm cauldron.
I'm also thinking of cutting Crystal Shard to add Temporal Spring.

That's cool. It will be nice to see Lightning Bolt back in Standard. Though I doubt it will see much play until Zendikar comes out. Unless Zendikar has a lot of really good regenerating creatures.

Goblin Shenanigans only cares about goblins being put in a graveyard from play. Tarfire never enters play, so it can't leave play and thus doesn't trigger Shenanigans.
You can, however, return Tarfire to your hand from the graveyard with Wort, Boggart Auntie.

You can't play Borderpost as there are no BASIC lands in this deck.
In general I don't find it very attractive. Slow, with little disruption and suboptimal win condition.

Thanks for the tip on the borderposts w/ non-basic lands. I'll have to consider a different manabase.

good... lightning bolt was too strong back in the old days but i think its time for it to come back since we have so many darn efficient creatures.
edit: flea market loot!
2x evacuation (my meta needs mass removal)
1x horn of greed. (fun for everyone)
1x priestess of titania
1x propoganda (annoying attackers)
3x temporal spring (spot removal in my best 2 colors)
2x aether mutation (more spot)
1x flooded woodlands (annoying elves)
2x terminate
1x stalking stones
1x fecundity (dragon appeasment)
2x fires of yavimaya
2x seal of removal
1x blue elemental blast (4th)
1x urza's mine (antiquities)
And more for 12$
was it a good deal?

From what you listed, I'd say all of that is worth about 7 or 8 dollars at the most. I think you got ripped. Only the first 4 cards you listed have any real value. The rest is all bulk.
Terminate is worth a quarter.
Bulk rare = 25 cents
Bulk uncommon = 10 cents
Bulk common = 5 cents
