@Danny
I hate to be nitpicking but Pitlord are the most dangerous that can be found and not controlled, please don't twist words and meanings.
I have nothing againts them being champions because I don't care about that, what I do care about is making a needless avalanche of speculations before we know anything solid.
Well ok, I love nitpicking

Found in the legions = part of the army = being controlled as a unit. If it's not in the legions, how would it end up there? They don't have to resort to animating and creating more creatures with so many demons available, do they?
Like I said, if they wanted to imply there's an even bigger unit that can be recruited, they wouldn't have worded it like that.
Also, since it's confirmed by an insider, I'd say it's definitely more than speculation. It's not like Elvin had to comment on this if he wasn't sure about it. He also called it a "revelation people were expecting".

I agree with Danny, I'd say it's "safe to assume" due to the way it's worded.
Sure it's possible, but it's not likely.
I am going to assume, with plenty of reason, that the Pit Fiend/Lord is the Champion.

The Tormentor
Tormentors are the servants of Ur-Traggal, Demon Overlord of Pain. Tormentors are consumed by the endless suffering of Urgash and inflict upon their own bodies unthinkable horrors. They draw power from their own agony, and use their deformations to strike their enemies. The Tormentors' skeleton is his principal weapon, as he is able to tear out pieces of his body to use in combat. His ribs can pierce through his chest to pin an adversary: his bones can elongate and project through his fingers to provide him with razor-like talons.
The upgrade is The Excruciator.

Loving it!
Not going to double post the same stuff, I also suggest we move the specific conversation to the "Creatures" topic.

omfg thats freaking awesome!
very original and cool
I think Inferno will end up looking something like this:
Core: Imp, Cerberus, Succubus
Elite: Tormentor, Efreet, Juggernaut
Champion: Pit Fiend

Umm reason I 'confirmed' it was because ubi had made it rather obvious already. I said nothing about the flyer being a champion, does it even look like one? Not cool enough.
If you felt that the H5 tier 7 were boring you may like some of the current champions

I did feel they were boring, and guessing that the Pit Fiend is a Champion, as well as the Avatar of Asha.
So far I'm liking them a lot indeed!

Quote: We have had way to many boring melee champions anyway.
None of the melee tier 4s/6s/7s from the previous games was a shallow perfect-template melee combatant, so I disagree. You have flying dragons with certain resistances and breath attacks (except the Bone Dragon), Archangels with secondary role as a free Resurrection casters, Devils with No Retaliation attacks/summoning abilities, slow walkers with dangerous specials like the Bahemoth, the Hydra, the Cyclop (though as I mentioned, I didn't quite like their movement rate - I prefer fast and agile creatures), etc. This is not to say that they can't make the Pit Fiend/Lord a decent melee/caster top tier creature, but they definately shouldn't copy-paste the Heroes V version, which needed to be babysitted way too much. And I don't think that a top tier support creature (the spell-caster is always at least predominantly support) suits Inferno's offensive behaviour.
But, as usual, let's wait and see.
By the way - any chance to have the Devils back as summoned creatures/bosses?

I went quite into detail about the abilities of said champions.
And in my opinion, those rare few that did have something interesting to do on their turn besides wade into melee, did it maybe once per battle or only in rare situations.
The beef I have with them is that they did not play any different from each other, they felt rather interchangeable.
Cyclopses being my favorite Tier 7 for actually giving me multiple viable choices every turn.
I did specifically mention Angels and Devils, and whilst I enjoyed them aesthetically, I found them strategically rather lacking.
Obviously they cannot "copy paste" the Pit Fiend, because with the initiative system out of the picture so is the "balance" in the stats it provided.
That said, I'm fine with them being slow moving, as long as they get enough magical and physical strength to compensate.
Also, remember that creatures aren't out there alone, they have allies on the field of battle and a hero leading them, said hero might have skills, artifacts, spells or other qualities to optimize his army.
To word it better maybe: I hope they stick specifically to the hybrid melee/caster concept, the other details such as speed are not as important to me, as long as I can make em work.
Edit: also I cannot imagine them leaving out Devils in some form or another when it's clear there are still angels present.
I mean the main storyline is about this angel person.
Edit: I'd like to see Devils as heroes actually, give them more character, let them be fewer in number with more personality, including maybe some female devils! (OMFG I WENT THERE!)

I wouldn't be surprised if Ur-Haazheel, Demon Overlord of Hate and Ur-Traggal, Demon Overlord of Pain as mentioned in the unit descriptions are devils. This is not a hint btw.

Presense of angels doesn't imply devils imho because the faceless are the main enemy of angels in Ashan. Devils were just tier 7 of inferno in H5, they didn't play a role in the storyline iirc. But it would be cool to see them, as bosses or something ^^

I wouldn't count your chickens too soon; until we actually see some concept art for the angel and archangel, I'm reserving judgment on that.
Angels could easily be a boss creature, or a neutral, or - hell - even simply a character that exists behind-the-scenes.

H6 producer said that Angels are in the Haven lineup in like his first interview about the project.
[Erwan] In terms of factions and creature line-ups, Heroes VI is again a mix of familiarity and innovation. For instance, Haven is still here, with its crossbowmen, its knights of the Holy Light and its Angels, but also with new creatures, unseen in a previous Heroes game.

True, Angels and Devils are not related in Ashan.
But yeah, Devils will likely be popping up in some form anyway.

I really wonder what new heaven creatures are that? Up to now we havent seen anything new from haven or did we?
I exspect paladins to be one of the elite units as they are seen on artwork, but what about the rest?

Sentinel/Praetorian is new. I think he also mentioned monks in one of the interviews, so it's the paladins getting revamped and that spirit thing from the artwork that's gonna be new for Haven.

I'd say the Sentinel/Preatorian is just the Pikeman returning from HoMM1,2,3.
And I doubt the Spirit thing is a unit, my bet is it's a magical effect of some sort, maybe the Guardian Angel ability.
I think we might see a new mythical creature join the faction line up, so that it's not just the gryphon, angel and a bunch of humans.
