Uh huh and how the hell do I figure out this "careful planning"? You're talking as if you know what you're saying. There are PLENTY of nations without a mineral industry and I have them either as Favored or Partner and I don't sell them ****. How precisely can I "careful plan" this?

@Joonas: It chooses what 3 industries you start with 
(I have Mountain and thus Minerals, Cement and 'Wine' (well I think Wine is randomly selected)).

That's because probably someone else who made that nation partner is selling your products even cheaper. Competition
But yes you can't plan this. Life's cruel, and I'm not joking.
Do you think I don't have surplus of Bananas and Antibiotics even after selling to mvass? And even though I have some other partners, I still don't sell them, because someone else probably does it even cheaper.

As far as I know, it's 'imbalanced', since it's chosen randomly and based on your terrain. If many nations have the same terrain than yes, it's imbalanced for the first industry. For the others it's random, so yes it could get imbalanced as well.

Hmm, not sure, I don't think you can actually. That's maybe what Espionage does - see what Partners other nations have, etc, so that you'll be able to plan better.
@Joonas: The first industry is based on terrain, the others are randomly chosen.

Meaning that mountainous or arctic nation isn't necessarily doomed from the start?
Any idea on what those are? Minerals, bananas and..? Does it really matter what they are?

Well obviously I never said it only happens to me... I said it's a damn bug. (look at Mvass with 0.76 million man-eater ears, it keeps decreasing even further).

Of course it matters. Different industries satisfy different needs. And no, I don't know what they are, except that Tropical has bananas and Mountains minerals.

Forest:Lumber(possible wheat farming)

Plains:Cotton
Marsh:Antibiotics?
Tundra:????
So I think I'm going to go tundra just to see what it is.

I think that even those industries that are terrain-based are randomly chosen, but from a very restricted area, of course.
I've seen a nation with forest terrain having Minerals (and Ballistic Missiles + Crude Oil) and another having Lumber (and Cars + Scooters)
And maybe Plains have Wheat Farming as well in the choice for the first industry.

Actually, maritime seems to have more of a wheat industry, as I get hardly any fish
Also, smoking is now completely outlawed.Enforced by well funded police, those who smoke/sell smoking products will be on 1 month of forced work , am tired of small pieces of our precious *cough*military*cough* budget going to some people who want to poison themselves, if they want to do that, then go to the store and buy some rat poison, not that hard

Below that you have Issues, National Summary (you can edit the history there), Diplomacy, Economy, Trading, etc etc...
