I never once saw Nicoli use Phantom Forces.

Nicoli Spells:
Frost Ring
Banshee Howl
Ice Bolt
Raise Dead
Slow
Spectral Armor (The 5th level summoning shield spell)

What is really sad is that he didn't use Raise Dead at all the game I won. Meteor shower is the easiest counter to Phantom Forces.

Hmmm.... my Nicholi has never even cast any spell. He simply shot my Emerald Dragon. And the most disappointing part is.... he had much less armies than I expected. It was already at month 4, yet he "only" had 2k skel archers, zounds of imps, swarms of demons, throng of succubi, zounds of zombies, swarm of ghosts and horde of liches. I hardly sweat when I fought him. Another hero I fought ebfore him had at least horde of ghost dragons.....

Still Confused

Quote:
I disagree that unicorn bow string is useless for the last battle. If you think about it it effectively doubles number of your hunters/druids.
And maybe you can't locate it because phrase "just south" confuses you. It's not really "just south". Teleport gate is in top left corner, while bow is on the very left of the map, but vertically like in the middle of it.

I'm still in this map... I loved it - although a bit large.

I have all four Dwarven Artifacts, but still am unable to locate the bow...

I've taken Findan to everything on the maps as I have Nicolai trapped in his last castle and he's become hugely strong with a great army and I will easily dispatch Nicolai.

However, I wanted this bow first!

Any other directions as to where it is located? I've searched up and down the LEFT (west) side of the wall and still have seen no sign of the bow.

The reason why I reckon that guy who said it's useless is right is because for some weird reason, there is a penalty when attacking across a castle. That is, my nicolai is in a castle (do you have to face him while he's garrisoned?). Just faced him for the first time now, and wonder if I've spent too much time since I got destroyed by his now enormous army. He had 8k archers and hundreds among the next tiers, plus 60 dragons.

Did any of you win when he had so many units? Any tips if so? I saw some guy mention Imbue with Meteor Shower. But won't that kill your units aswell? I mean, I have trouble hanging back while those insane Skeletons destroy my dragons. I managed to kill a decent amount of them each turn thanks to my Hunters and Druid, however decent wasn't enough when he was still about 3-4000.

Also, brought those phoenixes because I read you don't have to kill him again if you win since they 'bring the dawn', but they are essentially worthless here. Wouldn't it be better to kill all the dragons and keep those good artifacts instead of having a worthless unit and less good artifacts?

This was after 5 months by the way.

It doesn't sound *too* bad, as long as you've got enough master hunters and druids to do the damage, and enough of the other forces to keep them safe. But I really think you'll need to get him out of the castle!

I finished the campaign on hard last night - I think it was around the 4 month mark. He had about 6K archers in total, 25 dragons, 86 wraiths, 100+ vamps, 400+ ghosts and maybe 500 zombies.

I went for the pheonix route because it seemed to be quicker and safer than chasing down all the dragons. My Findan didn't have logistics, so I didn't like the idea of travelling big distances. After killing most of Nicolai's high-level heroes, I pretty much made one circuit of the lower level to get the artefacts, town-portaled back home for a full reload of critters and mana, then went to the seer. There are plenty of other decent artefacts on the map, including rings of speed (very handy) so I didn't miss the dwarven stuff. And crucially for me Nicolai was still quite agressive so the moment I went near one of his remaining castles, he went for me.

His archers were in 2 stacks close together, so I flew my 5 pheonixes straight over to them - not to do damage so much as to stop them getting any ranged attacks. Then it was mass haste, mass righteous might, and the occasional resurrect every time the phoenixes died. My other forces held his other forces back - the treants were crucial in this. Only one of his archer stacks got a shot off at my hunters - but that was near the end so it wasn't too bad.

One word of warning about this strategy though - if all your phoenixes are dead at the end of the battle, Nicolai respawns. There has to be phoenixes left alive after the battle to kill him permanently. Found this out to my cost the first time, then got it right after the reload!

Postman, see unicorn bow is not that useless after all. With half damage your shooters still can harm Nicolai's troops. If you had no bow that would be quarter of damage.

If you have no way of luring Nicolai out of the castle (does he fall for suicide heroes?) you could weaken him with undead troops first. Take one of those heroes with elven luck, give them undead troops from all of those castles. These heroes can flee and surrender and game won't be over for you.

Another way would be abusing light magic. If Findan has expert then mass deflect missiles will do wonders vs. undead.

I'm having the same problem with the 3rd mission. No bugs or anything in the previous ones, just this one.

Beating the necro armys all the time
Rescued both heroes
Captured all towns

In that order

Mission 3

I had the same problem as a number of people with Mission 3.  I released the prisoners and had a kick-*ss army in my town, but the mission didn't complete.  Then I thought about how I freed the prisoners.  Findan didn't do it.  A purchased hero released one, while Findan released the other.  I think Findan MUST release both, otherwise the objective is never met.

They fixed it in 1.1. I had 1.0 and it didn't work. I got 1.1 patch and it worked

no magic findan

I tried to educate Findan with no magical school. Does he have the chance to survive in 5th mission?
His stats +/- 26-24-22-19
Expert Avenger-Imbue Arrow-Deadeye Shot-Rain of Arrows
Expert Attack-Battle Frenzy-Archery-Tactics
Expert Logistic-Pathfinding-Scouting-Silent Stalker
Expert Luck-Soldier's Luck-Elven Luck-Magic Resistance
Expert Enlightenment-Inteligence-Arcane Intuition-Know Your Enemy
Advanced Defense-Vitality-Protection

Or should I replay 4th mission to get Light/Destructive Magic instead of Defense?

Well my Findan matched yours except that instead of logistics and enlightenment I had light magic and - I forget what's called - the one that reduces the time between casting rounds. In my battles, my first cast would typically be mass haste, followed by mass righteous might. My gut feeling is that the haste was the most important, but the RM helped too.  In the final battle, I also needed resurrection to keep my Phoenixes alive.

Could I have managed without them? Maybe, but it would have been a lot tougher. I'd be inclined to wind back and add light magic at least..

Don't respec him.

My Findan had:
Expert Att
Expert Def
Expert Avenger
Expert Logis
Expert Luck
Expert Warmachines

The warmachine thing helps you in the very last mission (in mage campain) and the healing tent also helps you out (plus the ballista kills alot).

I was a bit annoyed with not having light magic, but i managed because he had so high att/def so my soldiers hardly got any damage.

If i played sylvan again, i'd go for nature luck with Findan. That's a KICK ass ability. Also saves up alot of artifact space.

I'd either take Summoning (phantom forces/summon phoenix/raise dead) or take light magic (buffs/ressurect). Raise dead saved me in one hard match, cause we where down to our last troops and my treeants just wouldn't die

It was in my plans to max warmachines but finaly I had to choose between defense and sorcery. Unfortunately I never got warmachines.

Sorcery is a waste on Findan. On the mage in the 5th campaign it's uber (fast casting and good mana and such), but findan is a warmachine (litteraly. Killed 4 - 5 shadow dragons each shot). Give him Light/summoning magic (one of them) for the buffs. That was my only mistake. He couldn't buff the troops, så they had to fend for themselves (well not hard, since they had crazy stats because of him )

And which one to replace with warmachines?
attack - very good
logistic - is a must for me (catching the annoying heroes )
luck - huge bonus to dmg is great
enlightenment - +xx% bonus to exp = faster leveling up, and also +1 to stats every 2 lvl is good
defense - I think, this one can be replaced with Ex.warmachines-ballista-imbue ballista-triple ballista combo

...but as I've said I never got warmachines to choose...

I've thought over which secondaries/perks to evolve with enlightenment. I decided for Arcane->Know your enemy (to increase critical hit) and (even my Findan has no magic school) Intelligence...it gives +50% mana, so I can summon more creatures from my towns
