Yes.  Not capable of being measured and not measured or not understood are two different things.  Every time you look at a lightning bolt you are observing the effects of an electric field.  Humans have observed lightning bolts - and hence electric fields - for much longer than 300 years.  The fact that they did not know what it was does not change the fact that it was there, or that the explanation was an electric field.

another story

Another story of mine, similar to the one by Doomforge and his mother's late aunt. I will place it between quotations because I want to comment later on.

Quote:
A close cousin of mine was born February 2006.
That little girl was born with many problems. The most important problem was that she had tumors along the entire spinal-cord and her brain. These tumors severely pressed all her nerves making her having many disabilities. She couldn't move her legs and arms correctly, she couldn't cry loud because she had no strength in her lungs, well ... many problems and I don't want to be dramatic. She was even baptized while she was at the hospital since the doctors were giving her 50-50 chances to make the week and/or the month. During these days I had a dream. I dreamed of myself and my aunt (mother of my cousin) sitting on a bench in a nearby square. We were just the two of us and I couldn't see anyone else in the horizon. Then, something strange happened. It was like a big earthquake and the colors in the scenery changed; I think everything around us got darker (like in the transition from afternoon to night-time). I turned to my aunt and asked "what is going on?"; the feeling was strange and I was thinking about apocalypse at the same time. And she replied "Don't you know? The time has come for Anastasia..." At that point I woke up. [By the way, Anastasia = Nastazia, is a female name originating from anastasi = resurrection in greek. I believe you guess why she was given that name.]

So, what was the interpretation of my dream (by me and other relatives) at that time?
That Anastasia was about to die within the following days.

As I said her prospects of living more than a month were severely restrained. In fact - I know it sounds bad, but it's true -, this was seen as a relief because her problems wouldn't finish even if she made that month.
However, after a small tour in UK/Birmingham doctors managed to stabilize her condition. That girl is still alive but was close to death on several other occasions; mainly because her health is weak. After about 18 months she can not walk, she can not even go around "on four". In fact, still, she has difficulties waiving her arms and stabilizing her head in upward position.

Can you guess what will be the interpretation of my dream by my aunt in the future, if Anastasia manages to walk and her tumors disappear completely at a later time? At the moment the tumors in her spinal cord have decreased in size a lot (without radiation and things like that). The case is not similar with her brain.
[Of course I wish for that to happen as soon as possible, because this will also relieve many other "social" problems that have occurred with her situation.]

What is the interpretation of my dream at the moment?
I don't know. For me, it is just a dream. Nothing more, nothing less. I believe that circumstances and perhaps your subconscious make you "see" what you (want?) to "see" during your sleep.
Therefore, I don't think that dreams should be taken seriously into account in order to draw conclusions for whatever it may concern you.

Of course my dream could be justified whether Anastasia had died at that time, or die at a later moment, or even if she ever (I doubt, but I surely wish my best!) manages to feel what life really is. Not spending her entire time between doctors and behind white walls and everyone having anxiety of what might happen when she arrives home [my aunt lives next door, as well as my parents and grandparents].

As angelito wisely said:

If it doesn't work well --> C'est la vie.

That's too easy....
How awfully true indeed!

That's what I am saying ...
By the way, electromagnetic pulses usually have higher frequency than what is observable with man's eyes. So, what about them 300 years ago? Not just lightning bolts (which most likely are purely electric due to voltage difference between ground and sky)

No, it is not.. outside mutation.

You didn't understand me.

I meant that long age may be not possible by normal ways, and maybe it's achieved only by some sort of mutation..not that it is not possible at all.

On the American Taliban:

Quotes from Randall Terry, founder of Operation Rescue in USA>

'(on pro-choice) When I, or people like me, are running the country, you'd better flee, because we will find you, we will try you, and we'll execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it part of my mission to see to it that they are tried and executed.'

'I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism. Our goal must be simple. We must have a Christian nation built on God's law, on the Ten Commandments. No apologies.'

With such people running the world no wonder it's such a cesspit...

Do you know of the Spanish queen Isabella? She was a nutcase just like that. There are hundreds of similar examples. It's called insanity, and doesn't have anything to do with God or the Bible...

I'm not claiming it to represent the entire religious community, but you'd be surprised how widespread this so coined 'American Taliban' is...

There's videos on YouTube of this stuff.

This thread is now cleaned from off topic posts, offending/insulting posts and fillers. I hope the thread can go on in the same manner as it has started. Friendly and full off opinions about the topic and not about a certain poster.

One more thing about the "sense" or "value" of this thread:

This thread has recieved 11 +QPs so far. You won't find many other threads containing that many rewards. So it seems the value and the idea of this thread aren't doubtfull at all. Of course 2 big different parties come together here (theists and atheists), but that's the same situation in american politics (democrats and republicans) for example. Even though u rarely can convince someone in the senate to "change" his party, they all have discussions every day. Let's keep it the same way here. Don't try to convince others, try to express YOUR opinion.

And to those who don't want to follow the above, read here:

Anyone who does not want to discuss a certain topic should just stay out. There are poeple who want to discuss this topic, so let them have their "fun". Same rights for everyone.

"Religion... has certain ideas at the heart of it which we call sacred or holy or whatever. What it means is, 'Here is an idea or notion that you're not allowed to say anything bad about; you're just now. Why not? - because you're not!' If somebody votes for a party that you don't agree with, you're free to argue about it as much as you like; everybody will have an argument but nobody will be aggreived by it. If somebody thinks taxes should go up or down you are free to have an argument about it. But on the other hand if somebody says 'I mustn't move a light switch on a Saturday', you say, 'I respect that.'
Why should it be that it's legitimate to support the Labour party or the Conservative party, Republicans or Democrats, this model of economics versus that, Macintosh instead of Windows - but to have an opinion about how the Universe began, about who created the Universe... no, that's holy?"

-Douglas Adams, Cambridge

I gave up too. Especialy with christianity. 2000 years is not soon, and the religion was re-adopted some 400 years (or so) by King James.

Not only that but the 4 guy's stories of the same situation all vary, especialy in context.

Paul: Jesus said this.
Luke: Jesus said that.
