Yes, I think more Moderator activity would be nice, and I have talked to a couple of them about finding a third Moderator for the H5 boards - but I don't know what they decide - whether they think they will have more time here in the new year, or whether they decide to take in an extra Moderator.

I think Hydra is here almost eery day, just not online when you are online

And the Lich_King, I see him online rarely but he doesnt post.

So I reckon Alci, you should be a moderator

And I think the best potential moderator is Alc and I see I'm not the only one who think like that.

Well Lich_King is here, agree for The_Hydra...

For Alc as moderator........he will delete all posts here, whit his criticism agree for the settlement lets delete it !

Hey, how about KD as moderator , just kidding

The Hydra is here more then Lich_king is, I see him on every day, the hydra that is.

And Alci wouldn't delete posts, no mod ever deletes post if they give criticism.

But the settlement now that's another matter joking.

KD for mod......NO WAY

ok then, i think, "as a whole forum" we should vote for a new moderator, one of use average joe people in the Heroes Community, a few rules a think,

1. you must be nominated by someone else
2. you can not nominate yourself
3. you can only nominaate 2 people, at most
4. the new moderator must have at least 301 posts
5. the new moderator must have at least 0 quality points (stops spam people)

well thats about it for rules, (i will make the official thread later) this part is just for nominations, the voting for the new moderator will take place at 1st Febuary (changeable)

Well the way moderator applications and all that work, is not by this way.

If I get 100 votes to become a moderator, it wont mean I will become one.

You will need to look in the FAQ and then see how you can become a Moderator.

I would love to be a Moderator, but Alci would be perfect here in my opinion, and I have gotten declined twice I think, so I will try in another few years (as I was told to do ).

But we will just have to see what happens with this, but I wouldn't mind having Alci moderator here.

And thanks to The_Hydra for making this thread a Stickie

Forum Cleaning

I’m posting this, because I think a major cleaning of the forum is needed. There are currently 64 pages of threads, most of which have been inactive for years. In my opinion, the number of threads should be reduced. This will allow people to easier navigate through the old posts and find information there (not to mention that a table of contents would actually be realistic to keep updated), which would hopefully reduce the radically increasing number of duplicate topics. Below are some suggestions to how this could be accomplished.

Obsolete threads
Obsolete threads contain subjects that are no longer relevant for this forum (pre Heroes 5). My suggestion would be to create an Archive to store all the obsolete threads. This “Library” would be a place where all the old threads are moved without being deleted, so anyone interested could look through them, but they don’t take up “space” in the active forums.

EDIT> I just had a thought. Maybe one could change the board structure so that it would be possible to have internal vaults in each forum, and possibly several of them. Thus, one could have a Heroes 4 vault and a pre-Heroes 5 vault in this forum, where all the extinct and obsolete threads were put. Thus, they would still be "around" this forum, but not on the main page. I think I'll try to sponsor this idea ...

Alternatively, these threads should could be locked (to avoid resurrection). Locking threads with a message that unlocking can be done on request in case somebody has something relevant to add to the topic to justify reviving it would be a possibility. Also, Heroes IV threads could be moved to a separate Heroes IV forum, but that would not solve the problem, only cause flooding of that forum.

Current Contents of Forum:
Pre-Heroes IV threads: Page 49 – 64 obsolete
Heroes IV threads: 41 – 49 obsolete
Pre-Heroes V threads: 17 – 41 obsolete
Heroes V beta: 13 – 17 obsolete
Heroes V: 1-13

Threads To Delete
A number of threads in page 1-13 are rated “to delete” and should be deleted, or have their rating changed. Also, a couple of threads not rated could be considered for deleting (marked with *).

Extinct Threads
I think most threads reach a point where they die out and become extinct. Most of the times, that happens because people have more or less discussed everything there is to discuss on that particular topic. Most of these threads enter a happy existence of dormant piece, where they starts their journey back through the pages of the forum. However, every now and then some new former comes by and feels an urgent need to express his opinion on that topic – which is fine, when the new former has something new to add on the topic, but rather annoying, when the post contains nothing new, which is unfortunately often the case – case of point: “The Way Of …” threads. Every now and then, someone comes by and bumps a dozen of these rather obsolete threads up to the main-page, thus flooding the forum and most of the time drowning healthy topics that are pushed to second page.

I think a more strict policy on extinct threads would be nice. I would therefore suggest the following approaches for keeping a more tidy forum (less cluttered in old threads):

- On a regular basis, the Moderators clean up the forum. This could be once a month, for instance.
- Threads in which there have been no posts in the last two months are considered extinct. One might change this span of time to one month, 3 months, or more, depending on how strict a policy one wants to keep. Threads containing quality posts are never considered extinct!
- Threads that are extinct are locked with the following message added by the Moderator: “Thread is considered extinct and therefore locked. If you have something new to add to this topic, which is not already posted in the previous pages, contact a Moderator to get topic un-locked.”
- Major Cleaning of the forum is performed in times of major change (for instance, when a new version of the game is released). When Major Cleaning takes place, all extinct threads relating to a previous version of the game are moved to the Archive (see above). Thus, some time after Heroes 5 was released, all threads concerning the Beta version much be regarded as extinct and should be moved.
- A monthly cleaning would also be a nice opportunity to re-introduce the Poster Of The Month concept.

The following threads are currently extinct (included are threads recently revived and threads rated spamfest and unrelated):

Pages 6 – 13 minus quality posts

http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=20862 *
http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=20611 *

Other suggestions

- Give Moderators ability to highlight name of certain important sticky topics (especially the Newcomers Please Read post, which, apparently nobody reads (hint: Maybe an update and/or compilation of *all* rules and advice in first post would be helpful)). Alternatively, just change board settings so that all sticky topics have bolded title to make them be noticed.

- Updating selection of Sticky threads. For instance, the Heroes 5 overview is kinda obsolete. Also, a bit off topic here, one might want to change the Age Of Heroes Coliseum description to include also faction development (since that’s what it’s become mainly, with the ICTC posts). I’m very flattered that the Factionmaker’s Guide was made sticky, but one might consider moving it to the Colliseum, if the Coliseum is devoted to Faction development and not only short stories.

- Adding a Questions and Answers sticky thread. This is generally usefull, and would be so even more in the Temple of Ashan. That would give forumers a place to ask small questions about game or technical details without having to make a new thread for EVERY single question (= less clutter).
