Heroes 5: Temple of Ashan Weekly Quiz
Hear he! Hear he! The time has come to present you what should have been done a long time ago! With many veterans and adepts of the Heroes of Might and Magic V discussing and comparing and chatting in the Temple, the time to accumulate all their ideas, including everything found in-game, and using it against them has begun!
No, this is not a guide! No, this is not a bird! Yes... No! YES!!! TDL presents you the "Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Weekly Quiz"!
Hehe... Hard to forget such a thing -- even harder not to see one in the Temple already. This fabulous idea is not based on any of the quizes, games... Veterans, though, may find it reminiscent of a mixture between WoG Quiz and the Game Quiz, although I tried to prepare a version to fit both our needs and our forum
For those interested in participating, all you have to do is to follow the rules outlined below. Have fun participating, but before we get straight to this, let me explain the rules:
Main Aspects
Every week (once or twice, depending on activity) one of the members of the jury (that is how I refer to the game masters ) will pose a certain amount of questions (ranging from 10 to 20)... The first ones to answer correctly will get a certain amount of points that will be added to the total. After all the questions for the round are answered, in several days, another set of questions shall be posed.
The point system will again be rather simple: each question will be valued 1 point. Per round, a person may only answer once (or with some exceptions more) to the questions (to all known at once). One may get point deductions, in case they do not abide the rules. With so many people on, the quiz is sure to reach the zenith. Though keep in mind - once you post the answers, you may NOT edit the content as this might provoke misunerstandings Be wise to post what you know instantly Posts with edits before the end of the round will NOT be accepted and will be penalized.
In due time, some tournaments (maybe even with prizes, though with no real promises; the knowledge is a prize as well ) where people shall compete may pop up.
TDL (means I) will be the game-master. I will try to look after the contest so that no fraud attempts to gain points are made. I shall occasionally pose several questions as well, although do not expect anything difficult.
To summarize, do not forget the golden rule: Be fast and be wary!. I strongly insist on you using your knowledge, rather than searching through things that were posted somewhere round to answer - there will be no fun, that may even be considered cheating (this is but a game, gee, why break the rules...)-- in case, I sort it out, one may get expelled from competition. Yet, I am not so eager to see it happening, so shame on the ewil people! Strongly encouraging against it as any research is not permitted (only to the jury), or some pitch-fork-wielding-peasants will come and bite you
Other Aspects
I shall gather anything that needed clarification in this section. Just ask me if something is not clear enough
Any examples?
Mmmk... 1. What is the knight with Paragon Knight specialty?
Answer: Godric (in case the question needs a deeper explanation, a simple answer is enough )
Simultaneous posts - what about them?
Simultaneous posts will be considered the same way, unless they were posted with a 2-3 mins difference. However, the jury has the final decision and may give points to both, divide them - this may depend on them theirselves or it will be discussed among us all to verify the best decision.
HoF or original - or both?
So far, I am not settled if Hammers of Fate are to be included or not -- normally, I'd say yes, even though many do not have the expansion pack. Thus, it might get imbalanced, but I will try to focus on questions that require knowledge of both.
Restrictions?!
Aye! So many questions should not be abused by anyone, because some cannot get to the comp to answer them that fast. Out of all the questions, a person may answer up to half of questions per session, depending on the number of qs'... Others may only be guessed for fun and will not count towards point count so as not to overuse advantages.
Another restriction!
YES! Hehe, there will be a 12-24 hour limit before round timer runs out (the hard ones will be moved to the next round).
The Jury
I still need to gather my team, so this section shall be filled in due time. A small notification - you absolutely must know the answer to your question - else I will bite you No, seriously, without it, it is impossible to smoothly run the competition Anyone who wants to join me (us) in our quest, dare to do so via HCM!
Elvin
Alcibiades
Ma_trix
Thanks for helping me out! In case you are not sure if you want to continue as the members of the jury, drop me a note before the start of a new round.

I dislike such quiz things on forums, generally..
But ok, I may give a try
1. Imperial Griffin, Steel Golem, Earth elemental
2. You need to get an artifact called pendant of mastery and wear it while having expert racial
3. In Heroes5, it's 4 elementals, death knights, phoenixes. HoF introduced three more, mummy, manticore and wolf.
4. Haven probably, needs expert trainer and attack.
5. You mean horde buildings? Ouchh.. not sure.. Necropolis perhaps?
6. A lot
7. Swift Striker (wyngaal), intimidate (some of the campaign heroes), windspeaker (jhora, only for herself)
8. no clue
9. Summoning?
10. No clue
11. Divine guidance (it's not a perfect counter, but it does help a bit)
12. Archangel spell does not lower HPs by 10%.

I may not answer the questions but I will correct some errors:
Quote: Aura of Swiftness, Intimidate (Swift Striker does not increase initiative, but the ATB instead)
Aura of Swiftness increases speed not initiative, afaik. It's Wyngaals and Raelag and Agrael (two campaign heroes) that have specials like that.
Quote: 9. Summoning?
Is needed for Wizards. Leadership is not.
Quote: 11. Divine guidance (it's not a perfect counter, but it does help a bit)
Teleport Assault is better

Beholder
Level 4 Abyssal Creature
The abyssal lairs are the sanctuary to the Beholders as to all creatures of the unreachable depths. These mysterious colorless spheroids are comprised of an impermeable brain-like embodiment, imbued with magical powers that enable the Beholders to levitate above the ground. An immense fanged mouth is located in the front of the body as well as a gigantic eye that projects an anti-magical cone, disempowering the effects of most hostile spells. While the atrocious fangs serve as a perfect weapon, the Beholders prefer to smite their foes with thin electric tentacles that grow directly from their bodies.

Flyer
This creature can move on to any free tile on the battlefield during its turn, regardless of the obstacles in the way.
Magic-proof 50%
Attacking spells inflict 50% less damage to this creature.
Aberrant Beholder
Level 4 Abyssal Creature Upgrade
The unfathomable crags are the realm of the Aberrant Beholders, preferring dank caves over spacious vaults. The colorless spheroid bodies, although comprised of the same impermeable brain-like material, mutate, the flesh twists. Despite the absence of light, the dark void the Aberrant Beholders inhabit is not an obstacle for their supernal vision. Aside from the massive fanged gorge in the front of the body and the gigantic magic-proof eye, a heap of minuscule eyes atop the mutated tentacular eyestalks adorn the bestial creature, cursing the opponents with a distinct malediction upon every glance.

Flyer
This creature can move on to any free tile on the battlefield during its turn, regardless of the obstacles in the way.
Magic-proof 50%
Attacking spells inflict 50% less damage to this creature.
Execrating Gaze
Every successful creature's attack casts a random Dark Magic spell (level 1-3) on the affected target. All effects are equal to those of Advanced-level spells. (Decay damage is calculated: 32 + 8 * Aberrant Beholders (unless the spell damage calculation system is changed). Every level has a fixed chance of popping up, the chance divided equally among the spells of the corresponding level: 1st level - 30%, 2nd level - 40%, 3rd level - 30%.)
Overseer
Level 4 Abyssal Creature Alternate Upgrade
The homely darkness are the principal living and training grounds available to a common Overseer. The dense viscid fog in the damp corridors condenses into a smooth layer of slime upon the spheroid embodiments, resulting in a pale green shade and extended circuit of the electric current upon its skin. Retaining the magical powers that enable their younger counterparts, the Beholders, to levitate above the ground and receive reduced damage from incoming magical attacks, the main eye of the Overseer can focus the electricity into a beam of energy, discharging an electric thermal blast to hostile targets over distance in their line of sight, temporarily harming their eyesight and incapacitating them.

Abilities: Flyer. Magic-proof 50%. Shooter. Dazzling Flare.
Flyer
This creature can move on to any free tile on the battlefield during its turn, regardless of the obstacles in the way.
Magic-proof 50%
Attacking spells inflict 50% less damage to this creature.
Shooter
This creature can inflict damage remotely. When distance to target is longer than half the arena, the target suffers only half the normal damage. Shooter cannot use ranged attack when blocked by enemy creature. If there's no Ammo Cart in the army, the number of shots is limited by available ammo.
Beam Attack
The creature performs his ranged attack shooting in a straight line due to which the creature can only perform its ranged attack on a target within his line of sight. If the path towards a certain target is blocked by another stack, the creature cannot perform its attack.
Dazzling Flare
The creature's ranged attack dazzles the opponent. Creatures affected by the ability lose their ability to attack/shoot for the following turn. Ranged units have their shooting range reduced. (The affected creature can still move and cast spells. Ranged units with no range penalty have it reduced to 1/2, normal ranged units are reduced to 1/4, those with range penalty lose the ability to shoot. The reduction effect lasts for 2 turns. Precise shot is ineffective. Affects only living, non-elemental, non-mechanical creatures.)

Nope... Did not think it would trick anyone

for the specials - I did not test them game-wise (all of them, did not finish camps yet), but there is an exact number that have their specialties effective initiative-wise

Seems that may be hard in some cases... Anyhow, seeing that many people lack HoF, I will try to modify certain things in the upcoming session... This round has both, hof and original.
edit:
OMG! So much attention to the game! I will have to work on more questions for tomm it seems!
If anyone wants to join the jury, let me know! I would be glad if I had more experienced people by my side

Though some are right, points may not be awarded due to the fact that you were a bit late to answer them first... Ones unanswered are still that way

That was those cases when exceptions were made Yes, you get the point exactly, 5 naturals +1 with ability

1. 5 ->(Griffin, Imperial Griffin, the Renegade Battle Griffin , Steel Golem, Earth Elemental)
2. Through Artifact called Pendant of Mastery
3. There are 6 in original and 3 more in HoF, so 9 in total.
4. Umm.. Warlock. They need Advanced Leadership, Recruitment and Aura of Swiftness, and Empowered Spells and Expert Attack, Tactics, Power of Speed -> Retribution. So 10 skills before you can get Retribution
5. Necropolis gets +6 Skeletons.
6. Many Talon of Dragonscale, Skull of Markal, Tarot Deck, Necromancers Helm, Sandals of the Saint, Armor of the Forgotten Hero, So my perfectly correct answer is 6.
7. Answer is 5. Benediction, Howl of Fear, Divine Guidance, Wall of Fog, (that Light Magic skill that reduces initiative of flyers by 1)
8. Necromancers helm
9. Leadership
10. Neutrals, so Air, Earth, Fire and Water Elementals, Phoenix and Death Knight, Wolf, Mummy and Manticore.
11. There is none that can counter it completely, Teleport assault gets closest by 0.5.
12. The Archangel Resurrects 100HP*Archangel, and is one time only. Resurrection spell depends on mastery, on Expert it is 300+30*Spell Power, and can be cast as many times as there is mana. The spell reduces HP by 10%

Although you may not have noticed, the 1st one is answered... As for the others, the 10th is kind of correct - both you and ZL will get a point: in fact, the week of life shuold double the production of ALL creatures -- this question might have been misunderstood due to reference of moon weeks... as for 7th -- not skills, but SPECIALTIES and DIRECT
