Tavern Chat

So I came to thinking that lately I've had some really nice chats on HCM where I've been getting to know members a lot more than what I see on the forums. It would be nice if everyone could get to know each other a little bit better - and maybe a tavern chat thread could be a good start

Because this is tavern, the thread won't be a place for spam - so expect spammy posts to be deleted.

I think the community could really benefit from people getting to know each other a little more - so here is where you guys can talk about whatever topic you'd like, and nothing should be considered off-topic.

So to begin with, I was just chatting with Elvin about movies - and strongly recommended the Pianist to him because he hasn't seen it yet. Are there any of you out there that can think of a movie that particularly toouched you that you would suggest everyone should see?

PS: The only topic that would be offtopic here is religion - the otherside has more than enough of that

Yeah you aren't the only one to recommend it Btw I heard good words about Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Knowing Jack Black it's gonna be a good laugh Seen some of his MTV parodies and School of rock.

I've seen Tenacious D just a few days ago. I also had quite high hopes especially because 2 of my friends in the boot camp wouldn't stop singing songs from that film, and because I've heard some songs of the band Tenacious D before.

However, I was quite dissapointed. While it had some very good moments and made laugh from time to time, overall it wasn't nearly as good as I expected.

I have to agree with Geny - I was really unimpressed with that movie as well. The few laughs really weren't having to sit through the really lame parts...

I think with comedies its harder to find films that people universally like though, because tastes are so different, and there are so many different types of comedy. I love stupid humour sometimes, but if there's no brain at all to it, I can't stand them.

That's why simple comedy is the best comedy. You know, something that's close to our every day life, something that we can relate to. Maybe that's one of the reasons Simpsons is such a success over the years.

For me, with any movie its always about the characters - if the filmmaker can create a character that I relate to and care about, then I'll like the movie.

I really liked the 40 year old virgin for that, there were a lot of funny characters there Not that I can relate to being 40, or a virgin

i find it really disappointing when movies don't spend any time developing the characters, because then I'm always left wondering why I should care about any of these people anyways

Agreed on the character part. There was this scary movie Wolf Creek that had no character development or depth and the characters acted so foolishly that I did not care if they'd die. Not liking the killer yes but not liking the characters either is too much. And there have been movies where I liked the bad guy a lot.

I like the bad guys in a lot of films. Especially in all those super heroes movies. The bad guys are just so much more appealing than the good guys, they are usually smart, resourceful, charismatic, while the good guys are just plain lucky because they have to win in the end.

Like in Van Helsing. Don't tell me you did not like Dracula's style? Assuming you took your eyes off his vampire girls at some point

Like Saw

I think that guy is one of the most interesting movie characters out there. Sure he's creepy and very sick...but he's also brilliant in a sinister sort of way. The way they portray him, you can almost understand him... which is pretty disturbing, but makes the movies a lot better than if it was no more than a super gore-fest.

I recently watched We Are Marshall, and that's not at all the type of movie that I like usually, but Matthew Mcconaughey was so good in his role that it really made the whole movie for me and i found that I actually liked it

There was a game show? We used to play Truth or Dare at sleepovers..was it like that?

I remember there was one girl in our lil group that used to always dare us to do gross things - so we always prayed it wasn't her. Then we just stopped playing altogether when she was around. She made one of my friends lick an ashtray. Sick

I'm glad we have this thread, Pan.

Yeah, The Pianist is great. Oscar-worth performance for Adrien Broody. For me, slightly better than Schindler's List. But my all-time favorite would be Al Pacino's Scent Of A Woman. Cause speaking about character, I yet to see stronger character than Col. Slade

Nice try Pandy but it looks like this new group are more like the zone after you left.

HC is just not the same. I think the facts need to be seen.
That is why we do not come in here much anymore.
I think our private chats are more entertaining then reading one thread in this community lol.
I think it was all about the game. Now it's all about a game most do not play much. More kids then adults who are actually fun.

I dont know. I think we just have to get used to the new HC.

Maybe if we just concentrate on improving the current HC and making it better, rather then just talking about what used to be HC, might be a bit better.

You can't hold onto the past forever

hmmm what to talk about.....

Exactly. Thats why we should blend in with the new.
It would be like wishing we can start a certain episode in our lives over again.
You can not bring HC back to the way it was.
The people are too dif to try.

I think we tried way too many times anyways.
It's the way it is.

Oh & by the way I liked your hairless pic in the RLP thread playing with your instrument Willy
