Happy late birthday Roy  Hope you had a good one!
Sorry to hear about your situation there, but it sounds like you made theright decision - I hope it all turns out for you!
Its bloody cold here now! It was funny too, just a few days ago I said to my son, we should go out and rake up all those leaves before it snows, not even 20 minutes later we got hit with a mini snowstorm, everything was blanketed within the hour. Its still to early for it to stay though - and already most of the snow is gone, but now the leaves are a sodden icy mess, and I really don't have any desire to deal with that 
So how's it for you guys? Anyone planning for Christmas yet? What do you all do to celebrate the holidays?

Pretty cold here too. Just glad to be inside, had to go for an errand and getting warmed up again I don't think far ahead but I'll probably stick around apart from a trip to Arachova(snow resort near Athens) and whatever pops up at the moment 
There have been some family problems with some relatives so we'll spend Christmas as a family. In any case I love this period

Looks like winter started all over the globe.
Today was the first serious rainy day of the season... I wish we has snow.

Very brave of you to share that story homer. I wish you good luck in the future. Yes you did the right thing and it will probably warm you that you didnt ruin that guys life as you may have that day if you would have ridded him of his girl friend. Hopefully despite the conflict youll find some way to get along

Guys, no spamming
So after saying that the snow wouldn't last, mother nature decided to teach me to say things like that and we've been hit with another big snowfall... I have to go out and shovel today 
I'm wondering what is cold to some of you guys Today its -8c here, which is 17.6 f according to google - to me that's not really cold yet. It feels pretty cold right now, because its super windy - but temperatures here get to -30 pretty consistantly in the winter, we have extremes of -40 or lower too - which I suspect would probably kill a lot of you
I remember one year a long time ago, it was -44c - our car was snowed in, and the busses had stopped running, and we couldn't get through to the taxi's because the lines were all busy - and we were out of diapers for my daughter, so I had to walk to the store to get them. Normally it takes me about 15 minutes to get to the store, but because the snow was so deep it took me about 40 minutes, and I truly believed I would not make it. By the time I got there, I had no feeling anywhere in my body and was shivering so bad I must have looked like I was having a seizure That was the worst case of frostbite I ever had, lol You wouldn't want to experience it... I was practically in tears
But such is life as a Canadian in the praries

Cold? Well, I still have some memories from my pre-Irsaeli life, when we had -15C to -20C almost every winter, so I'm never really cold here. Actually, when I was still at school one of my hobbies was to go around in a T-shirt and hearing people all around saying: "wear something warm for a change, I'm getting cold just from looking at you!".
As for the -40C, yeah that might be too much for me. I remember my mother telling me about the winters in her childhood (unlike me she was born in the colder part of USSR), she said the temperature could easily reach -60C at the middle of the winter and people actually died on their way home from a New Year's Party... especially if they were drunk. Maybe that's the reason why New Year is considered a family holiday in Russia - you don't have to go anywhere if you spend it at home.

You reminded me of when I was in Paris, my class went there on a trip when I was 16 - and it was March, everyone was dressed wearing jackets and long pants, while we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts, to us it was like summer, but to them it was still cool. We really stood out
I can imagine people dying in that kind of cold though, -60 is insane... even when its -30-40 it becomes pretty difficult to walk. You just get so cold that your legs don't respond right, I can't even imagine being able to walk in -60 sober, let alone trying after a few too many drinks....
We usually stay in for New Years too, or we get together with frineds or family and spend the whole nite out, because New Years means too many drunk people driving. Its such a ridiculous thing here, because we have many safe programs to keep people from getting in their cars - busses are all free on New Years, and there is a free program that has many volunteer drivers, so you can just call for a ride and they'll pick you up anywhere anytime to get you home safe. Its really sad, and stupid, that people decide that they're okay to drive and end up hurting themselves, or other people. But unfortunately that seems to happen every year
