No, i dont think guns in HOMM is a good idea IMHO, it just, well, doesnt feel like HOMM....I can understand those who say different...but to me it just wont go.

it really depends on the implememntation.
A small handheld aquaribis is acceptable.
and if so the neferious clockwork and steam fantasy aspects would play large roles.

I voted no.
A game like Heroes which is set in a medieval universe shouldn't have guns. The only exceptions to this are the gremlin's weapons. Yes, technically they are guns, but I think of them more as magically powered spherical projectile launching apparatuses . Basically, they're a can with ball inside, which is launches due to a small magical explosion inside, propelling the ball out. And essentially, this is how a gun works, but I'm willing to look past it. Other than this one weapon, there should be no other projectile weapons excluding arrows/bolts and the magical shots from mages, titans etc.

mmm. a handheld harquebus/musket/rifle is what suits castellans best.

REMEMBER that even those guns came in to play. medieval pikemen are still in dire need in the front

It honestly has nothing to do with technophobia.  It is to do with true fantasy vs technofantasy (or post appocolyptic fantasy).  It is why personally I would not like to see a forge town in heroes.  Some would, yes.  Just not me.  Even the plane, tank, and ufo 'easter eggs' I think are in poor taste, but to each their own.

Why not have firearms, bazookas, ect?  Because of the little fact of balance.  Even if there was a aspect of inharent danger with the devices, lets look at the match ups shall we?

Musket vs bows.  Ok muskets take a bit to load, but the range is more then compensation for that.  By the time bow using creatures got in range, the fight would pretty much be over.  The longbowmen at one time were considered the greatest military might on land.  Until gunpowder. I realise this is a game and that realism isn't top on the list, but some sanity has to prevail at least.

Cannons Vs Ballista.  Do you really need me to compair?  Both take awhile to load, but one covers about 3x (at least) the distance.

Let alone if you are talking automatic fire, or such.  Guns have no place in Homm.  Not because I am against guns, but because of the Genre.

i only say..... Renaissance era man.

honestly this thread is a very hard things for me to reply. i've play games like AoE3, Granado Espada (korean online games), and..... Battle Realms before

also. longbows has better accuracy at the long distance than harquebus and muskets

Games are fine with an aspect of technology and fantasy.  It doesn't bother me in the least.  However, Heroes just isn't the place for even basic firearm technology.  As for accuracy, perhaps, but show me a single person who can fire a bow the same distance that even a musket can go.  Even compound bows (which are not even around in Heroes) can't cover most of the distance, let alone all.  Now, if you were talking adding things like wands or such, that were something like firearms it would be a different story.

Now some people argue that Wizards might be able to pull it off.  They bring up golems (and one of the arguements for a forge is based around this) as a reference.  Perhaps, but even if it is more technology then magic, primitive gears are a vast distance away from gunpowder technology.  Your ideas are your own, don't let me stop you from creating whatever you like.  However, people don't have to like your idea.  I for one don't.  Don't let that discourage you from going forward with it.  Just realize that you can't make people or even convince people to like your idea if they don't.  Half my ideas I've put on the board (or maybe even more) have met with criticizm or worse.  I'm ok with that.

Imho AoE series were much better until they came to ages whit gunpowder (AoE 3), so lets keep Heroes series in one setting to prevent same fate.
While im not opposing the forge in old universe, its dead and this new one certainly doesn't feel like forge-like. Keep the swords axes and bows!

Ashaner gremlins uses "Hand Cannon"... primitive. inaccurate. and very heavy firearms before the invention of Harquebus (which combines crossbow principle with firearms)

Before blaming any games with guns. go play American Conquest first!

I do play AoE3..... of course it does crap. but NOT because of firearms...
it's because of other factors. too small battle scales fompared to AC, historical inaccuracy in many aspects. (certain units from the old world NEVER visit the new world during 15c-18c. NEVER EVER!....)

Am i saying anywhere in the board that the FORGE should be in here?
I'm saying that castellans needs a littlebit progressive in technology. give them guns. but NOT too hi-tech guns please.

now Gremlins has guns (although it's more like Hand Goone).
will castellans still be a laggard like this?
