Draloed sneaks away from the group and stealthily releases Zucruu.

"Zucruu, fly up way high for us and try to see if there is another way to get by bandra."

The bat understands the directions and floats up stealthily into the air.

Draloed decides to remain where he is while he waits for zucruu.

Draloed:

You make your way away from the camp without incident and send Zucruu out to scout.

((Roll = 97))

Zucruu searches around for a while but returns a short time later, looking disappointed. Apparently there are no other safe pathways the group can use, so you stealthily return to the others and report your findings.

----------------

Main Group:

“Okay, now we need to figure out some way to distract the camp,” Mina reiterated quietly after Draloed returned. “I’ve got a couple of ideas, but I’m too tired now to know if they’re any good.

We could have Pidgey or Zucruu carry Mona above the camp and dump sleep powder on the Taskmaster and then try a distraction, if we want to bank on none of the goons picking it off him and calling for help themselves.

I could send Natu to grab the guy’s radio, or we could have one of ours Quick Attack it to break it, but the downside to that is that these Grunts will obviously know we’re here then, and we’ll have to fight our way through them.

We could try to lure them away a few at a time with noise or somesuch like Brona said, but we’ve got no way of keeping them from calling for help to check out whatever distraction we set up without taking out their radio, which leads us back to them knowing we’re here.

Alternatively, we could go with Misty’s suggestion: skip the distraction and just try to Teleport straight and hope they don’t see us. I’m open for more ideas, guys.”

Misty thinks, and comes up with a daring plan.  "How about a combination?  Even if they notice us, if this works, we will be through the camp before anybody can do anything. First we have Zucruu carry Mona above the camp and dump sleep powder on the Taskmaster and everybody else that is in the path. Then send Natu to grab the guy’s radio.  Now here is where it gets interesting.  Hedge and a few others throw up a sandstorm AFTER Natu gets a good idea where we are going.  Pidgey uses gust, spreading the sand everywhere..in the confusion we teleport across and run.  Think it will work?"

Mina looked thoughtful. We’d have all the Grunts after us again…but if we..yeah, I’ll do that… “Okay, but we’ll need to call out the Pokemon we need out of sight.” Pidgey, Sandshrew…is there anyone else I need? Houndour and Natu were out, Pikachu was unconscious…Oodramer wouldn’t be much help here. “I’ll be back in a bit.”

Mina slipped off the way Draloed had gone earlier, to find a spot where she hoped the light from the Pokeballs opening would go unnoticed.

Okay, so we're going ahead with this plan I assume? Otherwise if some of you guys have a radio, would it not be possible to find the frequency where these guys are transmitting their info to and otherwise create a destructive wave to annihilate that frequency so they can't call for help?

If their transmission is encrypted somehow, then if we get the radio maybe it's possible for us to break the encryptions so we can listen to their talks without them knowing?

“Whatever you think will help, just be ready to call them back in a hurry,” Mina told Brona. “And yeah, Zack, that’s the idea.” She grinned tiredly, pleased she wasn’t the only one to have thought of that possibility. Except for the bit about destroying a chunk of the light spectrum with equipment we don’t have. Kid’s seen waaaay too many sci-fi movies.

----------------

Main Group:

Those with Pokemon to call out sneak off and do so before returning. Mina instructs her Natu what to do while the distraction squad gets into position and Zucruu and Mona find a way for the former to carry the latter without the Flying type being in the line of Sleep Powder. They then take off and begin the first phase of the attack.

((Roll = 16, 92, 64))

Mona starts dumping Sleep Powder as soon as she and her ride are over the camp. A Grunt on the rim succumbs immediately, but another passing underneath is saved by a draft, and notices the powder glittering in the firelight.

The pair flying overhead have just enough time to send a load of the stuff over the Taskmaster’s head before the Grunt calls the alarm.

“WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”

Now,” Mina says softly.

Natu vanishes only to reappear above the Taskmaster’s snoring form. With a cheeky “Natu!” he hops onto it and vanishes again, radio in tow. The Sandslash nearby, distracted by the danger overhead, doesn’t see him until it’s too late and its claws slash only air as the bottleneck canyon is filled with the sound of opening Pokeballs and a flood of sand, smog, and poisonous gas.

Natu Teleported back to Mina with a trill.

“Good, now get us out of here.”

Natu responded with a line of annoyed Pokespeak.

“I know you’re not limited to just me,” Mina interrupted, trying to guess at his meaning. “You teleported that goon back in Ternai—”

But the little Psychic type wasn’t finished. He chattered irritably, spreading his stubby little wings as wide as they would go, then brought the tips together so there was only a small space between them. Then his tone turned scolding as his wings flipped back into place.

Big…small…we’re too big…? No, that can’t be right… “…you can’t take us all at once?” Mina hazarded after a moment of thought.

NAT!” which by the tone Mina understood to be a resounding YES!

“All right…” Mina rubbed her head before pulling out her Pokedex, hating yet another complication to overcome.

~Looks like we’re going in shifts. Call your Pokemon back before you go.~ An idea occurred. ~Scratch that. Zack, have Mr. Mime grab you, Draloed and Stacey and Copycat Teleport. Rest is same.~

“Natu, grab Misty and Brona and Teleport them past the camp. In that order if you can’t manage them both at once. Then come back. Got that?”

“Nat!”

Mina was almost too tired to feel surprise that she hadn’t had to argue with Misty. She suppressed the feeling anyway and briefly weighed the pros of knocking out one of the less-durable Mankey vs. hitting the Machop that was unaffected by the sand. At last she decided that the latter would make a better target so far as their escape was concerned.

“Pidgey, Gust that Machop. Houndour, Ember Pineco. Sandshrew, Swift the Mankeys please.”

Natu flutters to Misty’s head and the pair promptly vanish, leaving Hedge behind to cover the rest of the escape. “Houndour, Ember that Machop. Sandshrew, Swift the Mankeys again.” And we should really do something about that Sandslash…wait, I know… “Pidgey, come here.” Mina muttered a quick plan to her little bird before sending him off again. “Okay, now go.”

----------------

Main Group:

The Grunts are beginning to rally, and seem to have finally caught on that the missing group members aren’t just hidden by the sand and smoke but are actually leaving the battlefield. Several of the Grunts call for their Pokemon to intercept the Teleporters while Zack’s Mr. Mime grabs Hedge and Zack himself after Vigoroth is hastily recalled.

Spearow uses Pursuit!
It’s super effective!
Mr. Mime is hit for 10 damage!
Filter reduced the damage!

The Psychic type hurries his steps as he is pursued by Spearow. Brona’s Growlithe notices his predicament and rushes to his aid.

Pidgey uses Quick Attack!

The flying Normal type dives at the fire cocoon—and, unexpectedly, grabs the other Pokemon up in his talons. He then makes a bee-line for the brown-spined Ground type and drops the Bug in front of it.

((Roll = 57 – Fail. >.<)

Pupawisp uses Bide!
Pupawisp begins storing energy!

((Disable Roll = 63 – still Disabled))
Sandslash uses Struggle!

Pidgey tries to land the Biding bug between the Ground type and its target, but is only half successful. Sandslash manages to redirect its attack at the last moment and slams into him instead.

Pidgey is hit for 62 damage!
Pidgey faints!
Sandslash is hit for 31 recoil damage!

Mina calls him back with a mournful look. “Sorry Pidgey,” she murmurs.

Natu stares at Brona impatiently as the latter waits for Growlithe to finish his attack. Both fire dogs unleash flame on their adversaries, Houndour on Machop and Growlithe on Spearow.

Houndour uses Ember! ((Roll = 20))
Machop is hit for 22 damage!

Growlithe uses Ember! ((Roll = 100))
Spearow is hit for 33 damage!

Brona returns Growlithe (to Natu’s apparent relief) then both Psychics vanish with their charges.

Attack missed due to recall!

Mankey 1 uses Leer!
Attack missed due to recall!

Mankey 2 uses Karate Chop!

Graveler uses Rock Throw!
Attack missed due to target fleeing!

Machop uses Karate Chop!
It’s super effective!
Houndour is hit for 71 damage!
Houndour faints!

Mina calls back her unconscious fire dog.

One of the Bandra Sandshrew misses entirely with Swift, its targets either called back or fled. Mina’s Sandshrew retaliates with a Swift of her own, but this one targeted at the Mankey pair again. The other Sandshrew attacks her in turn, stars flying wildly. Both Geodude fling stones at the space where Brona’s Growlithe lately stood, the sand and smoke blinding them preventing them from seeing that he’s long gone.

Mina’s Sandshrew uses Swift!
Mankey 1 is hit for 9 damage!
Mankey 2 is hit for 9 damage!

Sandshrew 2 uses Swift!
Mina’s Sandshrew is hit for 8 damage!
Attack missed due to target fleeing!

Mina then calls out Oodramer to help cover her retreat

----------------

Drat it, Mina thought regretfully, should have tried to dump the Machop instead of Pupawisp. And never mind that hadn’t worked anyway. Or attacked it out right. Sorry, guys.

Natu reappeared on her shoulder, looking nervous. The Grunts would rapidly figure out there was no one else left to target, if they hadn’t already, and that Spearow wasn’t out of commission yet. And yet in spite of (or maybe because of) the direness of the situation her mind felt clear, the fatigue off in the distance for now.

The next step seemed obvious—although she was loathe to take it, she couldn’t see any better options. She couldn’t get the Grunts out of her way right now, (And drat it, why didn’t I think of Whirlwind before??? Mina reflected, annoyed) and there was no way they could survive another round of attacks without the others to back them up. But fortunately the only Pokemon that seemed able to get to them before Natu could get them out were Spearow and Sandslash. And she was very, very glad she’d been focusing so much on Natu’s speed training, or this might not have been possible at all…

Mina crouched down and spoke quickly to get out all she needed to say before the Grunts organized and pounced on them. “Oodramer, the Spearow’s got Pursuit. It won’t hurt you but it will hurt Natu and we need him to teleport us out. I need you to protect him.

Sandshrew, I know you’re mad at me but we need your help too or we’re never going to get out of here. I need you to block Sandslash if it goes for Natu. Will you do that for me?”

((Obedience roll = 16!))

Sandshrew looked resentful, but nodded.

“Thank you,” Mina told her sincerely. She turned a bit to include Oodramer. “Thank you both.”

Out of the darkness Mina could hear a Grunt shout. “There’s one!

Over there!

Mina held out Sandshrew and Oodramer’s Pokeballs, prepping to recall them as fast as possible. “All right, get ready.

Get her!

Spearow uses Pursuit!
Oodramer intercepts the attack!
No effect!

((Disable = 48
Encore = 58))
Sandslash uses Struggle!
Sandshrew intercepts the attack!
Sandshrew is hit for 51 damage!
Sandshrew faints!

Mina felt as if she were fumbling for the buttons on both Pokeballs, and it seemed to take far too long for the balls to close around their occupants. But at last it was done, and none too soon as the remaining Bandra Pokemon closed in on them. With a sudden, adrenaline fueled shriek, Mina cried “NOW! DO IT NOW!

Everything blinked out of existence.

----------------
Main Group:

Everyone is now gathered some distance from the bottleneck, the occasional wisp of smoke from the battle drifting through the passage. Sounds of confusion echo back from the Bandra camp, but after a few minutes ((long enough for some quick conversation and decision making—not much else)), faint Swift stars begin to arch into the air, like the Ember the Grunt at the cabin set off earlier.

"Lets get out of here, and now we have no choice.  We HAVE to find a poke center.  We don't stand a chance if not." she looks to Mina for where to head next.

"I'll second that." Brona said, shaking his head. "If we meet any more grunts we'll be toast."

Mina extracted the radio Natu had snatched from the place in her pack she’d stashed it in while the others conversed. Note to myself, she thought idly, if I’m going to cover everyone else’s retreat, I should use Pokemon built to withstand attacks, not inflict them.

"Lets get out of here, and now we have no choice.  We HAVE to find a poke center.  We don't stand a chance if not."

"I'll second that. If we meet any more grunts we'll be toast."

Mina paused in her attempts to adjust the radio to a useful volume to blearily check the map on her ‘dex—then remembered she’d already done this, but she was too tired to remember the results.

“Pokemon Centers haven’t moved guys. Either we press on to that city on the coast ((Stardust City, which Brona at the very least knows has been overrun by Team Bandra)), or we detour back the way we came to the one five-six miles to the east ((through even more Bandra-infested territory. )).” She considered bringing up just holing up somewhere to rest again, but decided against it; that might have been an option earlier, but with Bandra now well aware of their presence here they’d probably be discovered. They’d be better off meeting up with Brona’s Starlight Squad buddies; at least then they’d have some reasonably friendly eyes watching their collective backs while their Pokemon rested.

"In that case we better be prepared to run fast when meeting grunts, unless they are alone." Brona frowned. "If we keep a faster pace we might avoid the others catching up with us, and get to the shrine in not too long time. Maybe those we are to meet have revive. Let's just hope they are not under siege or anything."

"Yes. Let's keep going, and fast. Let's try and avoid any of those grunts. Now that they know others are around, I wouldn't think they would travel alone. Unless they're very confident in their abilities..... or not too bright."

Stacey kneels down to Mona, checking her wounds. She applies a potion to her, after seeing the injuries are fairly bad.

"On we go then, or are we going to have another "friendly" Team Bandra visit?"

Trying to handle the pokedex, but with much hazzle after the battle and the adreneline still pumping, Zack decides to simply ask out to everyone.

"Aren't there any pokemons in this region that we can catch, or maybe try to communicate with to help us? We sure could use as much help as possible right now, we're sitting ducks here and we probably don't have the needed ressources to make such an escape again."

"Also, maybe we should divide into smaller groups, so we aren't as easy to spot, I'm sorry I've a hard time focusing right now, but to find these people, or anything that can help us gain back some strength, do we know the general direction? If then, it shouldn't be hard to walk in smaller groups, also, we really need to send out some pokemons that can scout ahead for us, we need to figure out how these brandas are running operations in regard to defense, I'm certain they've changed their approach by now, they aren't anymore defending against potential targets, they're searching for well known threats, we really need to optimize our strength and focus on this we're doing now!"
