Main Group:

Elren and the others review the remaining Pokemon that might be of some use in carrying or dragging the wounded ((Sesh has a Lairon and a Mightyena that are still conscious, Elren has a Rock type called Archeokat, and there are another Rhyhorn, a Girafarig, a Donphan, and an Ariados left among the other agents)) when a lower-ranking Starlight Squad member barges in, unannounced and out of breath.

“Sir!—Sirs!” he amends upon seeing the Starlight Squad Leader with his lieutenants. He shoots an uncertain glance at the group but takes heart when Elren nods for him to continue. “We might have trouble! A helicopter just dropped off a fresh load of reinforcements—it looks like Tenma was aboard, sirs,” he adds, swallowing nervously.

Dien and Lijan, having no Pokemon that can help with the evacuation, quickly volunteer their services and rush off with the out-of-breath agent to hold off the new arrivals while the rest of those present are quickly filled in on the ramifications of this news—apparently Tenma is a Bandra Officer ((Christian’s “babysitter”, though of course none of us know that IC)).

“It looks like we’re out of time. We need to leave now.” Elren struggles to his feet, helped by Sesh. “Most of you aren’t my people, but you’ve proven you’re no friends of Bandra, so I’m going to ask you to help us anyway.” He directs the group to gather up the remains of the Starlight Squad and hunt down boards and other similar items for transporting the wounded. The evacuation begins.

((Breather while I prepare the next chunk.))

She calls out Dubba.  "Dubba, transform into an Archeokat" pointing at the creature.

Misty:

“Tenma’s got a couple Smeargle ((I can feel ohforf‘s jealousy from here )), but he’s a scientist and likes screwing around with all kinds of things,” The boy helping Misty web one of the more seriously wounded to a stretcher answers—seventeen or eighteen with a crest of spiky purple hair, she recognizes him as one of the Starlight Squad members guarding the door upon the group’s arrival. “And our sources told us he’s only been getting more leeway in that direction now that Triple B went and made him an officer. It could be anything.”

----------------

Mina:

“Who’s Kerry?”

Mina had trailed Elren and the red-eyed man called Sesh out of the map room, and hovered nearby doing minor tasks until an opportunity presented itself. But now they were thoroughly involved in webbing Elren to part of the map table (courtesy of Ariados), so it seemed as good a time as any to ask.

There was a long pause as Mina waited for an answer, Sesh pretended to ignore her and Elren grit his teeth against an accidental jarring of his leg. In the interim Mina crouched down to help web the Elder in, both to be useful and to make it clear she wasn’t going anywhere. After a few moments, Sesh seemed to decide she was serious, as he gave her a sharp look and responded:

“You really don’t know, do you? No wonder you’ve been bumbling about like imbeciles—”

“Sesh, please—” Elren interjected.

“—you’re lucky you managed to get here alive,” he finished sourly.

“Yeah, I figured that much out, thanks,” Mina replied with suppressed irony, “mind telling me why?”

Elren seemed to take pity on her as it was he that replied. “Kerry is a Bandra Officer who specializes in Psychic types. On top of that he’s a natural telepath—and a surprisingly powerful one. None of our agents have been able to get close to him for obvious reasons, but from the little we learned we know he’s capable of picking up certain kinds of psychic energy—”

Mina paled. “Including teleportation?” Elren nodded. Natu trilled from his perch. Drat.

Even tired as she was, Mina felt a wave of cold apprehension—like she’d been standing on a cliff’s edge and was only now aware of the fact.

It was Sesh that confirmed her fears, sounding rather more smug about it than she liked. “Precisely.”

----------------

Main Group:

The evacuation progresses at a frantic pace, with able-bodied Starlight Squad agents gathering up the few supplies that remain—these being mostly food and some human medical supplies, the Pokemon medicines having been largely used up by this point. The map table is sacrificed in short order for stretcher duty and a few other suitable boards are salvaged from the rubble for same. The preparations are nearly complete when Dien’s voice echoes from the entrance, calling for help; a handful of the remaining Starlight Squad agents drop what they’re doing and run for the entrance. A moment later he comes in supporting Lijan, who is leaning on him heavily; the blue-eyed lieutenant has blood matting his hair and looks dazed.

“Poison…” he mumbles. “Where did it…how did they…?”

Dien drags him inside and sits him down on a largish piece of masonry. “He took a blow to the head; he’s just a little dazed,” he informs the makeshift medics who have hurried over. That burden discharged he makes a bee-line for Elren.

“Elder I’m sorry, we can’t hold them off any longer,” he tells Elren, shoulders stiff and voice dripping contriteness.

“You did what you could.”

Dien relaxes. “But we aren’t going to have time to evacuate now…we’re going to have to make a stand here.

“No!” Elren disagrees determinately—his tone somewhat undermined by the fact that he’s been webbed to a board. “We’ll make it somehow! We only need a little more time!”

Sesh pulls out a Pokeball. “Leave it to me, I’ll deal with Bandra—”

“You’ve only got one Pokemon left to fight with!” Dien argues.

“Technically two.” Sesh corrects, looking stung.

“Even so—”

Those within sight see Mina roll her eyes, pull out her Pokedex and type in a quick text. A key-press later the following message displays on the group’s Pokedexes:

Mina sent you a message!

Who wants to go hold off Bandra while everybody else runs for it?

----------------

Christian:

After a moment’s thought, Mina dug the Bandra radio out of her pack. “Here, while you gentlemen are arguing how about you do something useful? Like listen in and make sure the Bandra goons don’t have any more surprises coming?”

She shoved it into the nearest pair of hands and took off to join her friends at the entrance, ignoring Dien’s startled exclamation and Sesh’s outraged one. The ’Dex bree’d at her and she checked it: a message from Brona, followed by another one from Misty. No response from Zack, Draloed, or Stacey; fair enough, there were more important things they could be doing than checking their Pokedexes for text messages.

What was he doing for the last few hours if he wasn’t resting his Pokemon? she thought exasperatedly upon reading Brona’s text. ((Players are encouraged to re-read the last two pages. )) She didn’t text him back though; maybe he just wanted an excuse to stick with his fellows in the Starlight Squad.

She did send a response to Misty however. ~We went through this. NO.~

----------------

Main Group:

Those of the group that make their ways to the entrance pass by the stream of Starlight Squad operatives that left earlier retreating in defeat. Outside the last of them is getting mopped up by the opposing Bandra hordes, and over the lull the group can hear a loud protesting voice—not quite pleading, but definitely uncomfortable—which is answered by a nerdy, poisonous voice whose sentences are frequently concluded by an abbreviated hacking cough.

“…it was really unnecessary for you to come here, sir, we’ve got everything under control—Starlight Squad resistance hasn’t been giving us any special trouble and we’ve got squads combing the mountains for those trainers, really, we don’t need the extra help—”

“Don’t get so excited, heh heh. I’m not here to do your work for you, I have more important things to do.” The Bandra forces part and the group gets their first sighting of Tenma; he is a gangly, nerdy-seeming individual who looks at everything around him as though picturing it strapped to a table and sliced open for dissection. Trailing him is a Taskmaster (apparently the source of the protests), a Smeargle with a green-tipped tail and a handful of competent-looking Bandra Grunts; all the rest of the Bandra forces present give the Officer and his entourage as wide a berth as possible.

“We just need to complete a small field test and then we’ll be out of your hair, heh heh. Nothing is quite so stimulating as a live test, yes?” Tenma gives the Taskmaster trying to send him away a smile that could curdle milk. “Always seem to get more fight when the expendables get cornered, heh. Better challenge for the test subjects, better results. And you get to clean up afterwards, so we all win!” He spreads his arms as though the declaration bestows a great favor on the rest of the Bandra forces present. His entourage remain stoically impassive through the whole thing; the Taskmaster hides a blanch.

“Y-yes, sir.”

“Good, now clear this rabble away.” He waves in the direction of the Bandra forces battling the last Starlight Squad defenders and motions his personal escort forward; the lot of newcomers are readying Pokeballs with black upper hemispheres and markings in white pen.

“All units, fall back!” the Taskmaster cries. The Bandra trainers pressing the attack melt away from the chokehold while the newcomers advance; the last of the outmatched Starlight Squad defenders take the opportunity to retreat, leaving the group a clear view.

Boss fight music.

One of the retreating Grunts is a little too slow to recall his Sandshrew and the Ground type is mauled by the dark jaws of a newly-materialized Hippowdon before dissolving into red light. Six other Pokemon are released besides the savage Ground type: two Magnemite, two green antelope-like creatures, and two insectile Pokemon with gloved and fisted forearms—all are dark and hostile with Shadow energy, and a quick Pokedex scan reveals full Shadow Gauges. ((B-E-T-A will remember the last two species; now the rest of you get to fight them. )) Upon their appearance, the sunlight begins to dim and the air fills with tangible shadows that at once sting and numb you. Tenma pulls an odd device out of his lab coat and begins paying excessive attention to it as the Shadow Pokemon charge the entrance.

((Okay, here’s the deal: Your goal is to hold the Bandra forces off for as long as possible. The chokehold limits the number of Pokemon to seven for each side. That’s seven TOTAL, for all trainers fighting combined. If all the group’s Pokemon get KO’d in one round, Bandra breaks through. If you can get other delaying strategies in place to slow them down for after your inevitable defeat, now is the time to try. ))

----------------

Christian:

Scyther uses Wing Attack!
Lombre is hit for 72 damage!
It’s super effective!
Lombre faints!

Geodude’s Shadow Gauge falls 2%!

The trainer’s jaw drops at the one-hit KO. He recalls his Pokemon and comes over to congratulate you on your victory.

Scyther: 61/66
Geodude: 45/45 (Shadowed: 60%)))

Misty:

You hurry into the next chamber over and find Lijan with the other Starlight Squad brass; he’s still a bit dazed from the blow to the head, but reacts to his name and seems to be listening when you explain what you want.

“Yes,” he nods, the motion a little wobbly. “Yes of course. It was…which was it…?”

He stares at his belt with incomprehension for a moment. Sesh audibly sighs and runs his Pokedex down the other lieutenant’s Pokeballs. “Here.” He plucks a Pokeball from its place and calls out Ryskimara. Dubba hastily copies its shape. Despite its unconsciousness, the original serpentine Pokemon writhes in pain before being recalled.

You hastily rush back to the battlefield, Dubba snaking along behind.

----------------

Mina:

Mina texted Misty back quickly:

~Okay, but I’m not sending Pikachu out until you’re ready.~

She eyed the opposition with unease, leaving her Pokedex out for a quick scan; none of the species were familiar to her except the Magnemite.

Hmm… With so many Fire types out, Bandra’s Grass and Steel types probably wouldn’t last long…and since Misty was shooting down Oodramer’s best chance at being useful with Sunny Day, Mina decided to send out Pidgey. Pity Brona had volunteered his Rhyhorn for wounded-carrying duty; not that she begrudged them the help, but Lightningrod might have actually come in useful for once…too late now, anyway.

“Gust one of those Bug things!”

Main Group:

Tenma looks up from his gizmo long enough to give the Pokemon arrayed against him a once-over, in the mean time spotting the trainers beyond them ((read us )) rapidly strategizing and fooling with Pokedexes.

“Well what do you know, heh heh.” Tenma remarks, elbowing the Taskmaster next to him as though sharing a joke. “Your runaway trainers have been under your nose the whole time.” He stuffs the device under one arm and rubs his hands together gleefully. “Good, we can get all of this done at once.”

Tenma calls out directions for the Grunts that arrived with him before calling out for the Hippowdon to use Dig. He then goes back to fiddling with his machine.
