((Going to give mamga, wog and ohforf time to check in. You three keep in mind that if I don’t get some active battling from you (IOW autoing doesn’t count) by the time we get out of the Shrine, you aren’t going to get a level-up from this mission! ))

Mina dug through her pack only to be interrupted by Misty with the Fresh Water.

“Oh, thanks!” she smiled at her friend, then called out Pidgey and fed him the water.

Pidgey fluffed himself after he finished, cooing in a pleased-sounding tone—obviously feeling better. Natu made a protesting sound from Mina’s shoulder; his trainer interpreted this to mean he wanted to be healed too.

“All right all right, be patient…” Mina located her Potion stock (she reflected that she really ought to organize her pack one of these days) after a bit of searching and sprayed Natu with one. She looked him over pensively, judging his remaining injuries: another Potion seemed overkill but she was loathe to use up more of her tiny stock of Oran Berries. At last she decided that as long as they were moving around so much, the Potions were easier to replace, and sprayed him with another one.

Christian's eyes widened in shock disbelief and he felt a huge need to sit down "Nobody....knows..what happened to Elren?" Christian whispered "Don't tell me they actually susceeded in taking down the base!" he added in his mind. "No, I had not heard of that"((unless it was in the letter. I forgot what was in that letter.)) Christian then shook his head and said "Back to why I am here, I busted my rib here awhile back. In Rieva they bandaged it and stuff, but I need someone to look at it and find out if its healing properly."

“Ah, got it. Nurse!”

Footsteps in the back culminate in Nurse Joy poking her head into the lobby. She looks anxious. “What is it? Has the Elder come?”

”Sorry Nurse, no such luck. This guy showed up and says he’s injured; he wants you to take a look.”

“Oh my; you do look very pale,” Nurse Joy gives you a quick once-over and motions for you to follow her to an examination room.

Stacey, after thinking about it, couldn't help but imagine the front entrance having a wider area than the back. More room for the enemy to surround them with.

"Yeah... the front entrance. Sure looking forward to that."

A small smile soon disappears.

"Oh, and then there's the possibility of being sandwiched in, should they get through."

Stacey looks back to where they just came from.

"Well, in either case, we should do our best to stay ahead of them."

Christian:

The Nurse nods solemnly as she leads you to a side room and beings the examination.

“The last anyone heard he was retreating to the Shrine of Light after Bandra attacked Stardust City. But I know he’ll make it through, and I’m not leaving here until he does!”

----------------

Stacey:

" Yeah... the front entrance. Sure looking forward to that."

The Starlight Squadie grins at you, apparently guessing at your thoughts.

“It’s not as bad as you think. The road’s been blocked for ages, which means Bandra’s stuck either going around through the mountains on foot or by helicopter—and one of our agents on the inside told us most of their helicopter support was recently sabotaged.”

Geoff!” Dien scolds.

The Squadie smacks himself on the forehead. “Sorry.” He looks embarrassed, then mumbles “…not supposed to talk about that outside the Squad…” Finally he clears his throat, hurriedly continuing on a less classified note: “Anyway, they aren’t going to be getting any huge numbers of Grunts across the mountains in a hurry. No, the tough part for us is going to be getting there—most of the wild Pokemon here are scary-strong; Selene used to train here before she went off her rocker.”

"Oh, and then there's the possibility of being sandwiched in, should they get through. Well, in either case, we should do our best to stay ahead of them."

Geoff just nods, looking grave now. “Right you are.”

----------------

Main Group:

((Speaking of hurrying…))

The group hears Elder Elren cry out as another of his Pokemon is rendered unconscious. Not a moment later, those standing near the door hear a muffled crack sound from the set of chambers you all just vacated, then an increase in noise from same: it seems the Bandra forces have managed to break through Natu’s boulder.

----------------

Mina heard the sudden upswell of sound from behind the door and cursed to herself. We need to get out of here.

She scanned the wild Wispaferyn and cringed at the numbers her Pokedex gave her. The only good news was that one of the five was already unconscious, and another one was severely battered thanks to the Starlight Sqaud’s efforts.

But wait…those are WILD Wispaferyn. Bandra Pokemon would be attacking because their trainers told them to. But wild Pokemon didn’t have humans to recall them or drag them to a Pokemon Center afterwards, so… Maybe…can we drive them off?

Mina decided it wouldn’t hurt to try. “Pidgey, Whirlwind ((Wispaferyn C))! Houndour, intercept the first Fire attack you see, and if there aren’t any then Bite whichever one looks weakest!”

----------------

Main Group:

The Pokemon the Elder sends out next is a graceful, draconic creature with twin arched tails and curved, flat-ended horns. Despite its injuries, its hide gleams with care and good grooming. ((Contest stats > 0 in other words. )) It joins the Starlight Squad Pokemon already out—Sesh’s Honchkrow, a Girafarig, a Clefairy, and a Tentacool, as well as a Pokemon the ‘Dex identifies as Arkhiti—a Rock type that looks rather like someone tried to carve a stuffed animal out of a brick. The last bears a strong resemblance to its evolved form ((Archeokat, the one Elder Elren volunteered to help drag around the wounded)), but smaller and less-defined in its shape.

Taking into consideration we’d have to transport them through solid rock at this point… Mina was also a little hesitant to leave wild Pokemon at the mercy of Team Bandra, though she admitted to herself they didn’t have a lot of options right now…fortunately for her conscience, she drew a blank on ideas.

“No!”

((Though if any of you lot think of a way, you may of course try it out. ))

Grimer’s hesitation allows the wild Wispaferyn to dodge the attack by a wide margin.

Slugma uses Rock Throw! ((Roll = 36 - hit!))
Wispaferyn B is hit for 19 damage!
It’s super effective! ((Doubly super-effective. Ouch! ))

Pidgey uses Whirlwind!
Wispaferyn C was blown away!

The Fire type is sent spinning away on a trail of steam. Still sleeping, it is blown out of the battlefield and off against a wall, twirling lightly like a top.

Meanwhile the door Dien just locked is now shaking with the force of the attacks of the Bandra Pokemon on the other side…

((And with two of the three wild Pokemon asleep…hmm…

Wispaferyn A’s roll = 33
Wispaferyn C’s roll = 15

…nope! Neither of them wake up next round. Autoing…))

Sesh’s Honchkrow finishes off the last conscious and unsleeping Wispaferyn while Houndour intercepts the latter’s Will ‘O Wisp. Houndour barks cheerfully to the larger Dark type and Honchkrow throws a midair salute back as the battlefield turns quiet. Elren lies back down on his makeshift stretcher ((He’s been propped up against his Archeokat if you were wondering)) and the Starlight Squad beats a hasty retreat to the far side of the chamber while they have the chance.

((If you lot want to do something with the Wispaferyn or set something else up, now is the time. ))

Main Group:

((Encounter Roll = 63))

The Starlight Squad pries open the right-most door on what had been the far wall when everyone entered: this one is kin to the first door, and has identical panels set into the back. The hall beyond is quiet and empty; no Pokemon seem to be lairing here currently, or else they fled from the sounds of the battle in the last room. Everyone files through in short order, the wounded dragged across after their more able-bodied fellows have secured the area immediately beyond, and the door is slid shut once everyone is through. Dien seals it with a fist as he did the first one and the assembled force moves on.

Main Group:

((Encounter Roll = 54))

The assembled forces continue the retreat down the hall; Sesh presses cautiously through the door dividing the hall in half, but it’s eerily quiet here as well. Draloed notices something on the floor glitter in the glow from the sealing door, which turns out to be a Heart Scale. The stone is getting older and other signs suggest the group is getting into a more ancient section of the Shrine; at last you all come to another door.

((Encounter Roll = 18))

The next door slides open to reveal a wider chamber beyond. The thick, quiet quality of the air here gives the sense that this chamber isn’t disturbed often; the place has an almost sacred feel to it.

Within is a moderately-sized pool, egg-shaped, with a mark inset in the bottom that the group eventually realizes matches the one on the Mark of Light. Four oversized bronze bowls occupy the four corners of the room, filled with ashes and debris—

—and the moment the first few members of the Starlight Squad file in, all four bowls belch plumes of fire. Pokemon appear above each, four in total: floating above the ground, they are sturdily built with mitt-like hands and horns pouring smoke.

Main Group:

((Quick Claw roll = 75))

Honchkrow uses Wing Attack!
Critical hit!
Endjinn 3 is hit for 68 damage!

Much to everyone’s surprise one of the wild Fire types ((Endjinn 2)) bypasses the trained Pokemon completely and goes soaring into the midst of the human members of the Starlight Squad. Several Pokemon try to interfere at once: Elren’s Wierdra aborts its Twister to shield its trainer, the Starlight Squadie with the Clefairy hastily amends his previous command in favor of a Follow Me to draw it off, and Mina’s Houndour utters a yelp and moves to intercept as the wild Pokemon unleashes a Fire Blast ((Roll = 59 – hit!))—all too little or too late, as the attack crashes past the defending Pokemon. The humans in the way try to scramble out of it, with partial success—most manage to escape with no more than singed clothing and minor burns, though Dien’s boots are more than a little charred.

Endjinn 1 uses Curse!
Endjinn 1’s Attack rises!
Endjinn 1’s Defense rises!
Endjinn 1’s Speed falls!

Endjinn 3 uses Gas Leak!
Endjinn 3 begins giving off fumes!
Endjinn 3’s Special Attack rises!

Girafarig uses Psybeam! ((Roll = 60))
Endjinn 3 is hit for 29 damage!
It’s super effective!

Gastly uses Curse!
Gastly puts a Curse on Endjinn 1!
Gastly loses 27 HP!

Evan uses Tackle! ((Roll = 19))
Endjinn 1 is hit for 4 damage!

Tentacool uses Bubblebeam! ((Roll = 23))
Endjinn 4 is hit for 16 damage!
It’s super effective!

Magby uses Thunderpunch! ((Roll = 42))
Endjinn 1 is hit for 5 damage!

Magby looks very excited and happy with himself at the hit.

Oodramer uses Bubblebeam! ((Roll = 6!))
Critical hit!
Endjinn 1 is hit for 52 damage!
It’s super effective!
Endjinn 1’s Speed fell!

Brona’s Grimer uses Disable! ((Roll = 99))
Attack missed!

Endjinn 4 uses Trick Room!

The last of the Endjinn has held back until now; it gestures with its thick-fingered hands and walls of energy spring up around the battlefield, enclosing the open spaces and overlaying with some of the real walls. It fades out of sight then, but the Pokedexes inform you the attack is still in effect.

Meanwhile Pidgey sends his chosen target spinning away with Whirlwind; the floating Fire type is blown steadily backwards but continues fighting its way back to the battlefield—until Brona’s Growlithe follows up and nearly flattens it with Roar. The wild Pokemon involuntarily vanishes in a plume of flame.

Endjinn 1 loses 37 HP due to the Curse!
