"Possibly a tougher opponent?" Brona said, smiling slightly. "New knowledge? They don't become gym leaders for no reason, I am sure you could learn something from them even if you win the battle."

((I'll train Gastly one more level before heading off to bed with the char, I want my Haunter ))

It was a little odd, the woman being as she was about there being ghosts downstairs. Though, maybe that was normal around here. Stacey decided to just go with it.

"As long as the lamps are lit? You mean the two in this hall? If so, why are they lit? And, as I asked one of the ghosts down below, what's the meaning with that engraving at the entrance? Also, why are there the ghosts?"

Zelgius sent out Jessia now as well. Quickly he said, "Alright you two, here's the plan. Marick, you walk around behind the grunts and knock them out one by one. After taking out one, scamper behind some cover for, say, ten seconds, then get another grunt. Go for head shots if you can. If all the grunts are knocked out, but there are still pokemon fighting, leave them alone. Alright, you go. Jessia, you and I have a little leader ambushing to do..."

This plan is: if the leader comes out, take him/ her down and use him/ her as a hostage to get the prisoner's free, get allot of food and get a good head-start. If the leader does not come out, then Zelgius tries to knock down the tent.

Brona (earlier):

“True…” Mina conceded. “Maybe I will give it a shot.”

----------------

Brona (later):

Mina leaves you to your training, which you continue until 7:30 PM. It’s getting to be evening when your Gastly bathes the area in a soft glow.

Gastly is evolving!

Gastly evolved into Haunter!

Pokemon: Haunter  – Trained (3, 0, 1) levels in the last three days.
Type: Ghost/Poison
Ability: Levitate
Gender: Male
Level: 25
Held Item: None
Stats—
HP: 65+5
Attack: 37
Def: 35+5
Sp. Attack: 70
Sp. Def: 40+2
Speed: 60+6

Moves: (DROP ONE)
Hypnosis
Night Shade
Mean Look
Curse
Confuse Ray
Sucker Punch
Shadow Punch

You congratulate your Ghost type before heading back to the Center to sleep.

----------------

Stacey:

She wipes her hands off on a cleaning rag and sticks it into her belt before replying. “Yes, those are the lamps I mean, but I’ll have to backtrack for the why to make any sense.

During the last war, there was a major battle here in Ternai Town. In those days, there was a whole fortress here—most of it was destroyed in the fighting, but the defenders managed to secure themselves in this tower, and Aidrelas’ army couldn’t get them out.

The way I’ve heard it, Aidrelas got impatient and used his powers to turn the Pokemon inside on their human allies, slaughtering them all. As you can probably guess, most of them weren’t happy to be dying like that, so the place was very haunted afterwards. And with this war in full swing, they’re back again, and they’ll probably stick around until it’s over.

But that’s what the lamps are for: the smell they give off calms spirits, keeping the friendly ones happy and the bad ones away. We haven’t been able to use them since Kreiznrak took up residence, but with him gone it’s safe again.

As for the engraving, I couldn’t tell you. It might have been for Kreiznrak, but this place has always been a little odd…”

----------------

Zelgius:

((Roll = 4))

Your plot to intercept the encampment’s leader works almost flawlessly; the man in the tent comes striding out in a temper, demanding to know why the the camp is such a mess and what do they think they’re doing when they should be working and—

—and you grab him from behind, while Jessia prepares an Icy Wind in case he should move. ((You want to have knocked the guy out or just hold the knife to his throat?))

((Roll = 22...blast it. ))

Sadly that seems to have taken the rest of your luck. The Grunts guarding the four captives are distracted, but not enough that the latter can escape (and now they have Pokemon blocking them in as well), and the very first Grunt Marick goes after is rescued by his own Pokemon (another Sandshrew) when the latter notices the Aron and attacks the Steel type with Scratch ((2 damage )).

----------------

Zack:

((“Old lady”?))

You go back out and head south out of town. You walk for five uneventful miles before the terrain starts to turn back into grassland and begin your search. Fortunately about an hour after leaving the Center the rain stops and the sun comes back out, though the area is still soaking wet.

After four and a half hours of diligent searching ((Lousy, lousy, LOUSY encounter rolls! >.< )), you find signs of a Taillow when your Pokedex leads you to a scraggly bush with blue down feathers scattered around it and bird droppings on the ground nearby. A careful approach yields the sight of one of the small blue Flying types enthusiastically preening itself.

Taillow: 45/45

“Some sort of evil spirit who took over the tower. A nice young man got rid of him a few days ago, but he was dreadful while he was here—it wasn’t even safe to come inside, some days. Funny thing, I seem to remember hearing about another Kreiznrak being in the last war…one of Aidrelas’ followers, if I remember right. Probably just a strange coincidence.”

"Get your mens' attention, and tell them to recall their pokemon." He commands their leader.

"Jessia, icy wind that sandshrew and its trainer if they don't listen. Marick should attack it if he sees you do so." He added, noting that the little steel type seemed to be a bit befuddled. ((The Aaron didn't auto attack the thing attacking him? Is its personality "fatalistic" or something? ))

Zack feels horribly wasted after the extremely long search. Having been about to give up for a long time, he finally finds the encounter he's looking for.

"Okay, hopefully no one will get hurt this time around" Zack thinks to himself, as he sends out Vigoroth.

"Vigoroth", Zack almosts yawns, "yawn!" and procede to scratch it, so I can catch it.

"Hopefully this guy is useable" Zack thinks to himself while looking at the Taillow.

Zelgius:

((You told him to attack the human and he got intercepted. So, no, he didn’t attack the Sandshrew. Consider it a ‘flinch’ if you need an in-game reason.))

Your captive does his best to spit on you. “You’re outnumbered and outmatched. Go ahead and try it, ‘cause unless you’ve got an army of friends hiding around here Triple B’ll just take you apart that much slower!”

With the help of some of the other Bandra-directed Pokemon, Marick is quickly subdued and hoisted up by a Machop from one of the remaining Grunts. The Fighting type is holding him in midair by his head, such that Marick can’t twist around to attack ((can’t reach the ground, stubby little legs too short to hit it)) or even bite it.

The Grunt with the Machop smirks at you and calls over the melee. “This yours? Surrender or I have Machop here smash its head in.”

----------------

Brona:

((Will get back to you once the ‘day’ is over. Shouldn’t be long now. ))

----------------

Zack:

The Taillow gets startled out of the brush by the blaze of light from Vigoroth materializing. It chirps a haughty challenge and moves to attack your Pokemon.

Vigoroth uses Yawn!
Taillow became drowsy!

Taillow uses Growl!
Vigoroth’s Attack falls!

Vigoroth uses Scratch!
Taillow is hit for 21 damage!

Taillow use Peck!
Vigoroth is hit for 9 damage!

Taillow falls asleep!

"Vigoroth, scratch it one more time, but be careful, those claws of yours seem rather sharp today!" Zack says with proudness in his voice, after seeing the incredible wound the Vigoroth made. Yet he cannot help to feel sorry for the little bird. Was all this violence really necessary? Sure he could just go up and heal it in the center, but did that justify him to go aorund and wound it in the first place?

"Vigoroth, hold back on that command" Zack suddenly says. "What kind of person am I to hurt a pokemon like this" Zack thinks to himself, looking at the poor defenseless bird. Then he pulled out his bag, brought forward a great ball and threw it at the pokemon!

Zelgius dug the knife into the leader's throat, drawing blood (and more than likely a yelp of pain). "Do that, and you god damned idiots get to explain how the hell one man took out four of you without any kind of trouble and then managed to murder your leader while you helplessly watched him bleed out on the ground. How do you think the higher-ups will deal with that?"

((If this doesn't work...)) He paused for one second. "Jessia, freeze that bumbler. You there, Mareep! If you are willing to help me, then shock that machop, paralyze it with Thunder wave!"

Zack:

((You mean like you didn’t name Master Mime?))

You reach Ternai Town without incident, some time after dark ((~8:30PM)).

----------------

Zelgius:

Your captive makes a muffled snarl as your knife scratches his throat, his teeth gritted.

“Do that, and you god damned idiots get to explain how the hell one man took out four of you without any kind of trouble and then managed to murder your leader while you helplessly watched him bleed out on the ground. How do you think the higher-ups will deal with that?”

The Grunt with the Machop pretends to consider this while your captive starts to squirm. “Problem with that is, it’s your word against ours.” His tone turns snide and arrogant. “And if we take care of you too, it’s our word against no one’s.” He signals his Machop to attack. The Fighting type flings Marick skyward and moves to spike him with its fists like a volleyball over a net—

“Jessia, freeze that bumbler. You there, Mareep! If you are willing to help me, then shock that machop, paralyze it with Thunder wave!"

((Obedience Roll = 45))

Jessia is knocked down and out before she can react by a pair of crazed-looking Mankey. The Mareep looks at you with deer-in-the-headlights eyes, visibly braces itself, then Thunder Waves the Machop in question before burying its head under its front feet in fright.

The Machop staggers, paralyzed.

((Roll = 50 – hit!))

Sadly that’s the last thing you see, as another Grunt uses your distraction to mutter a command to his Graveler. Before you can react further a rock collides with your head, knocking you out cold.

----------------

Zelgius (unknown amount of time later):

You awaken, bruised and battered and with one horrendous headache, some time later. You find in short order you’ve been tied hand and foot to a chair, and you were thoroughly searched while you were out—your pack, Pokeballs, knives, and anything else even remotely useful or weapon-like are gone, right down to your Pokedex.

You’re in a chamber that looks like it used to be a board room. It’s surprisingly well lit, with marks in the carpet indicating there had been a table in here, though now all the furniture is gone except for the chair you’re tied to and a rolled-up projector screen on one wall. The room has no windows and only one door, which is guarded by a pair of serious-looking Grunts and another pair of very burly looking Machoke. The wall behind you muffles strange sounds beyond it, and the air here smells faintly of chemicals, salt and stale water. A fine sprinkling of dust and drywall fragments coats the carpet.

One of the Grunts notices you wake up, pulls the radio off his belt and speaks into it.

“Tell Officer Kerry the prisoner is awake.”

((DUN DUN DUN! ))

Officer, eh? Better try to make myself at least a little presentable then...

Zelgius shook his head groggily, feeling all the aches and pains of his body. The worst part of his body was his jaw... One side was just barely attached to the rest of his skull. Rock did quite a number to me. Having trouble seeing straight... dislocated jaw... A dull pain came from his kneecaps and thighs, don't remember that happening... personal vengeance is understandable I guess. Still, this is a horrible way to present myself to a prospective employer. ((Whaaaaaat?!?! Plot twist?! ))

When the man walked in, Zelgius asked, "I wath w'nderin' if 'ou coul' rel'cate mer jawer... Plesh."
