Zelgius:

A few minutes later the door opens and you get your first face-to-face encounter with a Bandra Officer.

Kerry has dead brown eyes, a militarily precise haircut and his Officer’s uniform looks to have been freshly ironed. His gaze seems to weigh and measure you while at the same time looking right through you, distant and aloof. An Alakazam trails behind him, seeming similarly disciplined down to the dead and hostile eyes.

((There you go.))

----------------

Stacey:

You head back down to the first floor and look around. The lobby remains much as you left it, as does the entrance, so you head down the other set of stairs. These lead to a long hallway lower than the rest of the floor.

The ground in this part of the tower is covered in mossy brown carpet, and the medieval trappings are rotting on the walls. An equally mossy and time-worn door lays at the end of the hall, and behind it you find a chamber—more cave than room—that has a feeling of corruption in the air. Hanging on the far wall (or what passes for it) is a painting, and the walls and floor show signs of a fight at least a few days old.

Zelgius smiled. "You need an infiltrator, I assume?" He responded in an almost evenly matched monotone before chuckling slightly. "Let's cut to the chase, shall we? You need a way to counter the starlight squad that isn't going to get a good portion of your men killed, and I need a job. How would you like knowing where the starlight squad is at all times?"

Zelgius:

“And I suppose you assisted in blocking the Shatterhigh road because you thought it would impress.”

----------------

Misty:

You sleep soundly until 6 AM, awaking refreshed after your long rest. ((Now you may train. ))

----------------

Brona:

You wake up about 8AM.

----------------

Draloed:

Once you finish with the riddle ((you can keep at it, just remember you’re going to be in two places at once)) you wander around some more. You glance through the two floors above this one (the next has a hall and two chambers, one to either side, while the top floor is a single large room—and both have oil lamps at the windows, some of which are lit), but are shooed out before you can explore more thoroughly when a woman dressed in work clothes and carrying a load of cleaning supplies shows up.

By now the rain has stopped, so you walk around town, observing Starlight Squad members standing sentry and doing what they can to fortify Ternai Town. After a while your body reminds you you were up all of the previous night, so you go to the Pokemon Center to sleep.

You awaken the next day about 6 AM.

----------------

Sarah:

After training you explore the town. Aside from the Gym, the Pokemon Center, and the Mart, there are a few houses and a tall tower. Before you can enter the last a passerby warns you the tower is haunted, and Ghost type Pokemon make frequent appearances—particularly at night.

On a whim you explore the Mart a little more thoroughly, noting that there’s a type of specialty Pokeball for sale here you’ve never seen before:

((Available for purchase in Ternai Town:

Potion – 300 PD
Super Potion - 700 PD
Antidote – 100 PD
Paralyze Heal – 200 PD
Awakening – 250 PD
Repel – 350 PD
Pokeball – 200 PD
Great Ball - 600 PD
Net Ball – 1000 PD
Venom Ball – 1000 PD –x3 if used on a Poison type.
x3 if used on a Pokemon that has been Poisoned. (Stacks with the boost normally given by Poisoned status.)
x6 if both of the above apply.))

Around the Mart proper there is also a small, more informal market of stalls, selling Mulch (Free watering can with purchase! declares a sign), cologne, and Contest Accessories.

North of Ternai are some old ruins; on investigating you see an archeologist diligently sifting through the debris of an underground chamber in same. For some reason there’s also a dock of sorts down there: a watery tunnel stretching out from the ruins (presumably to the sea), with a wooden pole for tying boats to sunk into the shore. There’s even a boat docked there.

About this time you realize it’s getting late, so you retire for the night. You awaken at ((wait for it…)) 6 AM.

----------------

Zack:

You ask after the rest of the group, only to discover most of them have gone to bed already; it seems you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for your tournament. So you turn in for the night.

Your sleep is punctuated with an odd dream in which your Mr. Mime is standing on the opposite side of a chasm asking if he can come in, but no matter what you say he just repeats the question.

It ends when you awake at about 8 AM—feeling ill, with your nose slightly runny from having run around so long in the rain.

----------------

Stacey:

The painting is easily three feet wide and two feet high, set in a rough wooden frame. The interior edge of the frame is warped and rotted like the beams of the boat Altros’ Charizard attacked ((with Ether Blast, waaaay back at the beginning of the game)), but the picture within is undamaged and surprisingly realistic: it depicts a scene that is unmistakably set in the Spectral Dimension, complete with warped sky and off-color grass. When touched, the paint feels like it wriggles and moves under your hand, though the picture doesn’t warp or change visibly and nothing else seems to occur.

You explore the tower a little longer before your exertions over the previous night catch up to you and you go to sleep early, awakening about 6 AM. On top of your things you find a trio of Liechi Berries and a single Salac Berry, along with a note:

Stacey—

Liechi Berries grew. Didn’t get as much water as they needed; hope this makes up for it.

—Mina

((+3 Liechi Berries, +1 Salac Berry))

----------------

Mina:

Mina went back to the Center to eat and tend to her Pokemon. Pikachu was awake, and Mina was allowed to get her to eat a little before the Ternai Nurse drugged the Electric type with more pain medication.

By the time that was over it was about 6PM. Mina debated going out and training some more, or going to bed; unfortunately it had only been some five hours since she’d last slept, with the end result being she wasn’t tired. She compromised by starting her laundry in the Center’s battered washing machine before heading to the ruins to check on her Berries.

In the growing dark, it took her a moment to make out the plants, much less their burden, but after a moment she was pleased to see they had finally—finally!—produced fruit:

((Liechi Random Roll = 4
Salac Random Roll = 3

…drat.))

Excited, she quickly harvested the lot ((+4 Liechi Berries, +4 Salac Berries)), composted the plants back into the soil and added both bags of Growth Mulch before planting and watering a couple of Oran Berries. Those being one of the few types she was somewhat familiar with, she reasoned they would be grown or nearly so by morning—hopefully there wouldn’t be any major disasters between then and now. She also noted that she’d need to find Stacey before bed, seeing as most of the Liechi Berries were hers.

Then, as it occurred to her she’d need to water the Oran plants at least once more tonight, she decided to train Magikarp a little more and headed off to the nearest pond.

For the next two hours, she played ‘fetch’ with the fish using the ruined bottle as she’d previously done with Pikachu. (Her ribs were too sore at this point to try racing Magikarp around.) The results were reasonably impressive, though when Mina had the fish try to Tackle the bottle near the end of her training session the attempt ended unimpressively.

Pokemon: Magikarp (Trained (3, 0, 0) in the last three days.)
Type: Water
Ability: Swift Swim
Gender: Female
Level: 13
Held Item: None
Stats—
HP: 32
Attack: 11
Def: 23
Sp. Attack: 12
Sp. Def: 14
Speed: 29

Moves:
Splash

Nevertheless the Water type had made significant progress, and Mina told her so, assuring her newest Pokemon that she’d probably be able to manage it with another day or two of practice.

By that point it was much darker and Mina was having trouble seeing, so she watered her Berries again ((still seeds)) and headed back to town. Upon arriving at the Center she swapped Magikarp out for Houndour (W could use some training as well, she reasoned, but it was getting late) and put her wash in the dryer.

Not having anything immediate to do while she waited for her clothes to dry, Mina hunted down writing utensils, paper, and a private room to call out her Pokemon in, figuring a different sort of exercise might help her wind down a little.

It was an hour later—about 10PM—that Mina noticed Starlight Squad members trickling into the lobby.

Oh, that’s right, they were going to have a meeting—

Mina called her Pokemon back and cleaned up while she argued internally on whether she ought to try to attend; she wasn’t Starlight Squad, and now that they were in reasonably friendly territory they might not want her in on whatever it was they were planning to do next.

On the other hand, they might want help, and Mina gave reasonable odds most of the group either wouldn’t be in any shape to attend or wouldn’t remember it in the first place. She finally determined to try and, bracing herself for the likelihood that she’d be forcefully ejected out, went in and found a spot to sit. A nicely visible spot, in case they didn’t want her there.

As expected, none of the others were present. Even Brona wasn’t, which surprised Mina as he WAS in the Squad, but then there were other faces missing she knew hadn’t been among the wounded…

Elren was there, however, propped up by pillows on a gurney. (Starlight Squad Nurse Joy was glaring at him, with an expression Mina was becoming familiar with; the “you should be in bed resting” gaze.) With him were his three lieutenants: Sesh, Dien and Lijan.

Sesh noticed her first. “You, what are you doing here?”

“She can stay,” Elren said, overruling him.

“She’s not—” Sesh objected.

“Sesh, everyone here has had lots of chances to do us terrible harm. If she or any of her friends were working for Bandra, do you think we’d be standing here now?”

The red-eyed lieutenant subsided with a dark mutter.

Thus permitted to remain, Mina settled herself in for the meeting. She didn’t have long to wait before Elren cleared his throat.

“As some of you may already know, one of our agents intercepted a piece of Bandra intelligence while we were fortified in the Shrine of Light. That intelligence,” Elren gestured to a stack of papers on one of the lobby tables, “which we’ve copied so you can all see for yourselves, has informed us that Officer Hannah, one of our biggest obstacles in freeing the northern part of the region, is leaving Keida.”

A murmur of surprise broke out at this, and several Starlight Squad members reached for the pile at once. Mina maneuvered through the grab-fest to snatch a few copies herself; one to read and a handful more to pass around. “Are you sure?” “Really?” “Why would Bandra leave one of their best breeding facilities so unprotected?”

“We don’t know why. But this is the best chance we’ve had in a while to free another town from Bandra, and deny them one of their more valuable bases of operation. With Salerdia gone for so long and the amount of damage they’ve done to the wild populations, this is one of their best sources of new Pokemon.”

“Don’t they code their messages?” Mina asked aloud, distracted as she tried to split her attention between Elren’s words and the text in front of her.

Sesh jerked at the question, surprised. “Usually yes. It may be a decoy message; something to confound us so we waste time on an empty lead.” He scowled, and Mina got the distinct impression that the Starlight Squad brass had had another argument about this prior to the meeting.

“—but some of the information inside it we can confirm from other sources, so we think this one was just rushed,” Dien interjected before anyone could get too discouraged. Lijan nodded, a gesture that might have been reassuring if his eyes weren’t quite so blank.

“So our problem is what to do with this information now that we have it,” Elren continued.

Someone off to Mina’s right stood up. “I say, if there’s even a chance we can retake the town, we should try,” he said. Several others chorused their agreement. “And we better do it now, while they’re consolidating their latest conquest!” Elren flinched at the reminder but several lower-ranking Squad members voiced agreement.

“We haven’t gotten our people settled yet,” Lijan reminded them all, seeming to wake up a little.

“He’s right, we can’t mount an attack right now. We aren’t fortified yet, and there aren’t enough of us!” There was some dispirited muttering at this.

“The townspeople here will help us,” the first argued back. “They know what Bandra’s like. ((Censored)) it, some of them are refugees from Keida and would probably jump at the chance to get their homes back!”

“It’s still very dangerous,” Lijan trailed off uncertainly. Then he blinked and subsided; Mina wondered how much sleep he’d gotten.

“The message said she would be leaving the town in three days. Chr—our agent intercepted it yesterday, so we have at least a day’s grace before we stand a chance at retaking the town in any case. I don’t see any reason why we should attack before then,” Dien interjected, but he looked pleased.

“There is one other aspect that will make this even more trickier,” Elren added once the consensus had been reached. “There’s a rift due to open north of Keida about two days from now. We now know for certain Aidrelas is helping her; Selene might be planning to reinforce the garrison through it when that happens.”

“…then maybe we should just fortify this place,” suggest another Squad member, sounding crestfallen. “We can’t hold Bandra off from two cities at once.” We couldn’t even hold them out of one city passed unspoken through those present.

“We did not come here to hide behind the populace until Bandra wipes us all out!” Sesh interjected, then stopped in shock as he realized he’d just condoned the operation.

“I don’t like it, but we’ll have to split our forces,” Dien says. “It’s risky, but if we can get some of our people out in the field back here to reinforce us—maybe recall some of our less vital spies—and fortify the town, we might be able to hold off Bandra from both settlements.”

“We could call up the northern part of the region,” suggested another Squad member.

“That’s where Hannah’s supposed to be going, we don’t want to take away help from them,” argued her seatmate.

“What about calling Ceris, or Skybreak—”

“We are not going to Skybreak!” Dien argued.

The Starlight Squad hammered out details a little longer; it was 11 PM by the time the meeting had finally finished. Elren closed the discussion by saying:

“Then it’s settled. Our strike force will leave at noon, the day after tomorrow; that should provide us with more extra time in case Hannah is delayed, and make sure she’s out of reach when we attack. We’ll try to hit them after sunset as soon as the occasion arises. Until then, you should all get some rest.”

The Starlight Squad started to break up then, so Mina went back to her room to store the report copy in her pack, then left to check on her Berries again.

They’d sprouted (So the Growth Mulch really does work) so Mina gave them a little more water—then remembered she still had her laundry in the dryer and went back to town.

She retrieved her forgotten laundry and quietly snuck into Stacey’s room to deposit most of the Liechi Berries (plus a Salac Berry to make up for not being able to water the plants as well as they needed). ((-3 Liechi Berries, -1 Salac Berry)) Still feeling rather keyed up, Mina spent about an hour after that paging through her Pokedex, catching up on all the species she’d seen since the last time she’d gone through it.

Starting to drag now despite her long nap earlier, Mina made her way back to the ruins one last time to water the Oran plants again. They were getting taller but hadn’t bloomed yet:

Finally she got bandages and disinfectant with which to re-dress her injuries, cleaned her wounds and went to bed.

She awoke, after yet another dream/nightmare of opening doors, shortly before 6 AM.

You then head over to the Gym, where a few early-risers are training. On hearing you want a Badge match, they cheerfully vacate the field and fetch Pellana. The Gym Leader yawns, but agrees readily enough, being not-quite-awake rather than bored.

“You know the rules already?” she asks.

----------------

Zelgius:

((Way to dig yourself in deeper gnome. ))

“You even admit you are unreliable. Fortunately for us, Bandra has no need for any additional agents within the Squad. All we require is its location.” He tilts your chin up to look you straight in the eyes. It might be a trick of the light, but his eyes seem to glow. “Your cooperation is unnecessary.”

Scenes from the last day or so flash through your mind, confused by pain and headache but eventually oscillating around Elren’s voice, repeating over and over and bringing answering echoes of other memories with it:

“We can pack up now, and press on to Ternai Town…” “…not going back to Ternai.” “…Ternai Town through the night, or stay here until morning…” “Let's see here, let's see... Ternai...” “…press on to Ternai Town…” “…then follow the coast to Ternai Town…” “…Ternai Town…”

The memories flicker, your vision grays out and eventually fades to black. You never see anything ever again, as Bandra executes you before you regain consciousness.

----------------

Draloed:

((See? Obvious. ))

As you finish filling in the last blank, you notice the paper with the instructions has changed to read:

Very good.

You hear a knock on the floor behind you. Turning, you notice a Dusk Ball on what had been an empty stretch of floor.

Draloed found a Dusk Ball!

----------------

Mina:

Mina awoke, grumbling. I’m getting very tired of that stupid dream.

It was not, in the light of day, the sort of thing she would qualify as a nightmare. Only in her sleep, when the feeling that someone was where they weren’t supposed to be was omnipresent was it distressing. And it made no sense! She’d had repeat dreams before, but never night after night, and it wasn’t as if she had a phobia of doors, so what was it all about?

Figuring it was too late to bother with going back to sleep, Mina got ready for the day. She was halfway through feeding her Pokemon when Natu looked at her and trilled something, sounding questioning.

“I asked you to remind me about something, didn’t—?!!” Drat! The Berries! “—I’ll be right back!”

Mina paused just long enough to grab her shoes and watering can before taking off for the ruins. Her Psychic type peeked out the door after her, but Mina didn’t notice.

“Natu?”

Mina arrived at the ruins at a dash, rushing to the spot she was beginning to think of as ‘her’ Berry plot. A brief examination of the plants revealed they weren’t quite ready to bear fruit yet:

They were, however, very dry. Mina watered them and then hastily returned to the Pokemon Center, as it occurred to her she was very vulnerable out here without her Pokemon...

Fortunately for her peace of mind, she made it back to the Center without incident and was able to complete her morning preparations.

She was going to have to find the rest of the group, she rationalized. It was possible they’d find out about the strike on Keida on their own, but by no means guaranteed. Fortunately she had most of the day in which to do it, and could always hunt them down before bed. Or text them, though given how frequently most of them responded to texts out of combat, she’d probably be better off talking to them in person.

But there had been that one girl…

Mina hadn’t seen most of the trainers who’d accompanied them from the mountains to Ternai and assumed they’d taken off. But she was fairly certain she’d seen …hadn’t Zack said her name was Sarah?...sticking around, and as that particular individual had enough guts to go block the road with them Mina couldn’t help but wonder if she’d want a part in this, too. But as she wasn’t a part of their little group’s network, Mina couldn’t text her.

The Johto trainer resolved to find out. She detoured only to pick up a link cable from the front desk, then went to look for Sarah.

“Hey,” she said once she’d found Sarah. “The Starlight Squad’s planning an attack on Bandra in a day or so; do you want in?”

She really hoped she wasn’t making a mistake in doing this; Sarah had been with Lunatic Lorend during that disastrous meeting up in the mountains, and might be secretly in league with him. On the other hand, she’d shown a lot more sense than said lunatic, and hadn’t seemed to be seeking out his company in particular, so Mina decided to operate under the assumption that the two were acquaintances at best. As outmatched as they were against Bandra, Mina acknowledged she had to give people a CHANCE to be trustworthy, or this whole campaign was doomed anyway.

----------------

Sarah:

((Going to do this now since Zelgius isn’t going to be rejoining us. ))

You’re approached in the early morning by the black-haired girl you met in the Pokemon Center outside the Shatterhigh Mountains.

“Hey. The Starlight Squad’s planning an attack on Bandra in a day or so; do you want in?”

Brona frowns upon hearing this. Who could he trust to trade with him back and forth? He didn't have to think long before he thought of Mina. "Oh well." he murmured and set off to look for her.

((I think it's time for me to acknowledge that I have a fear of wall of the texts. ))

While in the mart Sarah decides to buy a Venom Ball. She consider it way too expensive but she imagine that it might be fun to use at a nice occasion.

((^ if that's okay to do that at this stage...))

Sarah had awoken fairly late this very day, still unsure about what to do next in the city. Since she feared that her Pokemons would be too weak for the city's gym she knew that they needed more training. However Sarah was rather tired of training her friends against random Pokemons out in the wild.
After stooling the streets of Ternai for a while Sarah was approached by a black-haired girl, she noticed that it was the girl from "mountain event"

“Hey. The Starlight Squad’s planning an attack on Bandra in a day or so; do you want in?”
Sarah thought for a short while, but decided that yes she wanted to join them.
She couldn't figure out anything better to do anyway, and this time it just had to lead to excitement...

Brona:

After looking around, you find Mina picking up her Pikachu at the front desk, the latter finally well enough to leave after twenty-four hours of intensive care. She notices you in short order.

“Hey!” she greets. “How’d you sleep?”

----------------

Misty:

“It’s three Pokemon each, and either of us can switch at any time.” Pellana answers. “Are you ready?”

----------------

Sarah:

Previous day:

((That’s fine. ))

You pick up a Venom Ball during your survey of the Mart.

((1,500 – 1,000 = 500 PD remaining))

Next day:

“All right. Let me see your Pokedex.”

((Assuming you do the above. If not say so and I’ll change it.))

The dark-haired girl takes a cable and links your Pokedex with hers. After a moment and some fiddling she unhooks them and give you yours back. The screen now reads:

Pokédex Connectivity Communication Protocol Download Complete!
Interactive Region Map Protocol Download Complete!
Text Messaging Protocol Download Complete!
Breeding Tutorial Download Complete!
Wireless Phone Comm Protocol Download Complete!
Encryption/Decryption Protocol Download Complete!

“There. Now you can text the rest of us if you need help. And there are some other things in there too.” With that she takes her leave.

Mina:

After talking to Sarah, Mina took a brief detour to check in on her Pikachu; her Electric type had been in the nurse’s care for almost a whole day now, and it was Mina’s hope that she’d be well enough to train today—or at least get out of the Center. But the nurse shoo’d her out again with “Come back in a few hours, I still have to run some tests!” so Mina settled for switching out Oodramer for Magikarp and resolved to come back in a little while. Hopefully after she was done with Berries for the day she’d have time to go down to the coast and train.

Remembering Brona’d said he’d help her with that today, she took a trip over to the Mart for more Mulch while she waited. She hesitated over buying more Pokeballs while she was there, too, but ultimately decided to pass for now. ((Let’s see… I’ll make it four Growth Mulch and two more Boost Mulch, so 6,774 -1,200 = 5,574 PD remaining.)) She admitted to herself she was probably being optimistic, but it would be a lot more convenient to have the Mulch already on hand if they found anything—and now that she had a time frame for how long she could expect to be in town, she realized she might even have enough time to try growing some of the ones she was less familiar with...

Mina wandered around town for a little while after that, and passed by the Tower after it occurred to her she’d been in Ternai for several days now (cumulatively, at least) and hadn’t even set foot in it. She was gazing up at the battered building, absently scratching the bandages on her arm and wondering if she should go in or just go back to the Center and browse her Pokedex, when a voice behind her spoke up:

“It’s haunted, you know.”

Mina turned around, startled. A trainer she’d never seen before was sitting in a patch of early-morning sun, whittling. “Haunted?”

“Yup.” He continued in a nearly malevolent voice, the sort older children used to scare younger siblings. “All kinds of human ghosts, and some Pokemon too. There was supposed to be some big battle here where they all died.” He added with mocking cheerfulness. “You’re probably safe to go in right now, but I hear it gets really bad at night.”

Mina processed this, ignoring his attitude. “…there are Ghost type Pokemon?”

“Oh, you’re one of those sort.” The strange trainer deflated. “Yup, mostly Ghost types. They’re not very useful in this town, though.”

Mina puzzled over this, knowing as she did the Gym Leader used mostly Fighting Pokemon. Maybe the guy just had his type advantages backwards. But the other trainer had gone back to his whittling (and didn’t seem to be the sort she’d want a prolonged conversation with anyway), so Mina went back to the Center.

Maybe I’ll check it out tonight. She’d have to stock up on Pokeballs beforehand though. And she was running low on funds. Hopefully the next raid on Bandra would bring some form of income, but in the mean time, she’d just have to prepare as well as she could.

By this point it was nearly 8 AM, so Mina decided to check on Pikachu again. This time instead of shooing Mina out, the Nurse handed her Electric type back with a stern expression.

“Don’t let her get so badly hurt again!”

“I’ll try not to get cornered by any more Bandra Officers,” Mina agreed, expression mask-like. She knew she was at least partly responsible for this; that didn’t make it easier to endure. But as the only things she could think to do at this point were to stop following Misty’s blundering strategies (which she was doing) and train Pikachu more so she would be harder to hurt (which she planned to do), she said nothing else.

Pikachu, for her part, “Pika!”’d happily on seeing her trainer, and probably saved Mina from a further tongue-lashing. Mina cuddled her youngest for a little while; when she turned around, she noticed Brona.

“Hey!” she greeted. “How’d you sleep?”

"I am." still not sure (for some reason, despite observing earlier) what pokemon are used for the gym she calls out the pokemon that can heal itself.  "Go Evan!" ((She plans on using Evan, Oddish, and Blaze (if fighting) or Milotic if rock))
