Mark nodded, starting to run before remembering something terrible. "Bandra was bringing shadowed pokemon north as well... It might not be safe to go that way." He was still running with Mina though, not stopping to change directions. "But let's worry about that in the long run, ey?" Right now, they needed to focus on getting the hell out of this town...

Stacey almost goes for another set of attacks, just to help ensure they get away, but figures the chance is pretty well as good as it's going to get. She recalls her pokemon, grabs hold of sandshrew, and heads out the back as quick as her bruised leg can carry herself, and the extra weight. She sees Mina and Mark ahead, and pushes herself to catch up.
Ivan recalls his pokemon as well, and rushes out the back. He sees a grunt trying to push himself from the ground along his path. He steps on the back in his run, pushing the grunt back down.

Brona clenched his jaw, torn between running and staying. He did not wish to give up the fight, but when several of the ones on his side starts to flee he realizes staying will only lead to loss. He turned toward Dien, "What do you say, sir, fight or flee?"

Christian suddenly looked up and then on his watch "Ahh, look at the time, I'm really sorry but I am afraid I got to go, I have a few other persons I need to meet." Christian turned towards the door and started walking, but before leaving, he remembered an old Ranger saying for danger his dad had taught him. "Let's hope there arn't any Murkrows around." he said concerned before turning his face slightly back "Well, see ya around old man!"
And with that, Christian left to go to the ruins where his grunts surely was waiting.
((if he gets there after all the grunts))
"Sorry I am late, I had to scout out the place before coming up with a plan."

It's very, very bitter tea. Someone added honey to it, but that doesn't seem to help at all. It's strong enough to make you forget the soreness of your bruises and you don't think you'll be able to taste anything else for a few hours. And judging by the expressions of the other people who tried some, you aren't the only one.
But curiously, once you've gotten over your mouth turning into a black hole of bitterness, you realize that your bruises don't ache as much.
Once your tea is gone you swap out Blaze's forever-empty-Pokeball for Krabby, and the Nurse returns you your Oddish who is largely recovered after spending the night at the Center. (Though the Nurse repeats her warning about leaving her out of her Pokeball until she dries off.) ((If you want to swap out Oddish for Stripes let me know.)) When asked if you can switch Dubba and Evan for some of your uninjured Pokemon, however, the Nurse loses her temper:
"Oh no you don't. My cousin told me what you did in Ternai Town. You sent them into a battle they stood no chance in. Your duty as a trainer is to keep them out of fights they can't win, but you wanted to be the hero and now they're paying the price. So they're staying here until they recover and you can be grateful for it; if this wasn't a war zone I'd have your trainer's license revoked! You should have known better!"
Not long after this the older woman finishes her rounds (made quicker by the sudden upsurge of people declining a cup on witnessing its effects), comes over to you and pats you on your unbroken arm.
"Come with me, dearie. You can help me with Clara."

Your Sandshrew is hissing madly at nothing in particular as you run. Occasionally he snaps—at you, at clothing hanging from the doors (it seems Bandra has been housing at least part of their Grunt forces in the Center and it's a little messy as result), anything that moves unexpectedly. But mostly he just hisses like a tea kettle, very stiff and obviously very stressed, and who can blame him?
A few moments later there is a rumbling behind you and you hear the very battered front end of the Pokemon Center cave in. There's no sign of your friends, and the figures you took to be Mina and Mark turn out to be sets of spare clothes hanging off doors in the overnight section. So for the moment you can only hope they made it out some other way.
The confusion remaining in the Bandra perimeter is just sufficient to win you free. You break out past the Grunts with Ivan and escape into the dark.

It's plain he wants to stay, but when Dien looks around himself and sees that you and he and Puppetman are the only ones remaining to fight his expression nearly turns into a pout.
"We retreat."
He directs his Pokemon to attack with Lisa's.
Sadly, it's too late. Hannah has finally realized her foes are making a break for it, and calls out one more Pokemon:
Walls of stone erupt from the ground, blocking off your avenues of escape. Your Pokedex informs you this is the result of Arena Trap, not an actual attack. That comes a moment later.
Dugtrio uses Earthquake!
The attack rips through the last of your Pokemon, knocking out everything that isn't flat-out immune. Then you hear a creaking behind you and realize just before it hits you that the front walls of the much-abused Pokemon Center are collapsing. Then a chunk of roof falls on you and knocks you unconscious.

You're second to arrive, though you can see the other two Grunts extricating themselves and heading towards you.
Rob has beaten you to the ruins. He's holding a mallet and pickaxe doubtfully and there's a Mining Kit on the ground at his feet. You don't remember him having such tools before, and by the looks of things he isn't sure why he has them either.
"Hey New Kid," he greets. "You want these? I was poking around to see if I could find anything, then this old guy showed up and handed 'em to me. Said I'd have better luck digging, but that sounds like too much work."

Misty nods to the older woman and stands up. She pauses and turns to the Nurse. "You want my license, you can have it. Your right. One of my pokemon died because of me. Because I had to try to protect the innocent. You think for one second I was going to take the injured pokemon out of care you are insane. Blaze is dead, because of ME. He is gone, forever, because of ME. I never want to fight another pokemon battle in my life. So what is a license to me? You think we are safe here? You think they won't come here? Your wrong. They will come, and I will protect everybody I can..until they are safe. Even in a hopeless battle, because I don't deserve to live..and they do."
Misty doesn't wait for a reply, and goes with the old woman.

Misty:
The older woman takes you across the street and around the back of the herb shop. From here, you can clearly see the rows of boxy objects, and now realize them to be hives. A small swarm of yellowish Pokemon with three faces each and tiny insectile wings buzz around them.
En route, the older woman natters at you with no sign she heard your very virulent speech to the nurse.
"...she's a very sweet Pokemon, really, just not used to having the whole colony depending on her. Since Bandra took Beatrice away..." Her eyes mist over briefly. "It's not the same for them dearie; Combee are very hard working Pokemon but they need a Vespiquen to keep them organized, and she's been having a little trouble with evolving." In confidential tones she adds to you, "She's a little unsteady dearie—lets her mind wander."
She continues normally. "We used to have Alara take over when Beatrice was ill, but she died a few years back and Combee won't turn out female most of the time, we don't have another queen bee. They aren't making as much honey, and with the herb supply failing these last few years I don't know how much longer we can afford to keep the lights on. We've had to raise our honey prices already and it makes the husband unhappy."
From her tone, she's not happy about this either, but by this point you've reached your destination because the older woman stops.

"Clara!" The older woman whistles. "Clara!" There is a long pause, so the older woman whistles again. And again. It isn't until the fourth whistle that one of the bee Pokemon looks your way and—with obvious reluctance—buzzes over. Unlike the others, it has a little red patch on its lowermost face.
"This is Clara," the lady introduces you. "Clara, say hello to our new friend."
The bee Pokemon buzzes unenthusiastically and looks away.
"Now dearie, don't be like that. Our new friend has come to help you with your problem."
Another unenthusiastic buzz. It occurs to you the old woman has a more serious problem on her hands: her Pokemon won't listen to her.

Misty smiles gently at the older woman. I can help your pokemon evolve, but there may be a bigger problem if I do. If she is not willing to listen now, it might be harder to get her to listen when she evolves. Lets try to work on both. The best way to evolve pokemon is by a pokemon battle. So lets take her a little away from the hive, as I don't want my pokemon swarmed..and practice a bit?

"Where should we go!? Where should we go!?" Stacey looks around, seeing all the chaos around.
Ivan frowns at the fact he hasn't a clue where to head either. "I'm not sure. If only... How about..."
"This way," they both call out. Stacey calling for them to head west. Ivan calling for east. Both of them pointing in a direction slightly north.
"Split up? Make it more difficult to get us both," Stacey suggests.
Ivan feels a little reluctant to do so, but agrees. They head their separate ways, for now.

Mark and Mina:
"Ah." Mina processed this, sparing a glance for Sandshrew to make sure her Ground type was still keeping up. "We'll need to keep an eye out for the rift to the Spectral Dimension that's supposed to open around here, too." A flash of pain from the vicinity of her ribs prompted Mina to check the injury there; her hand came away bloody. Just great. "That shouldn't be hard to do; last time one opened it was really obvious. But with the both of them in the area, maybe we should try a different direction. What do you think?"
She heard panting behind her. Natu's Pokeball was in her hand before it registered that the figure approaching belonged to the Starlight Squad, not Bandra.
"We're in trouble," he said breathlessly.
Mina just shot him a skeptical look before remembering it was dark enough he probably couldn't see it. "Really," she added after a moment, trying very hard to keep the sarcasm out of her voice.
"No, I mean, really big trouble." The Squad member held out his Pokedex mutely. It read:
Elren was murdered. Bandra took Ternai. All surviving Starlight Squad meet me in Rieva AEO. L.
And not a heartbeat later another text came in, which the Squad member sent through his decoder App for Mina and Mark to see.
Elren KIA. Taking command. Starlight Squad regroup outside Skybreak City. S.

"What's that? She listens fine, dearie. Just gets distracted. But if a little experience will help, we can try that. Come along, Clara."

The Combee looks distinctly sullen but follows the old woman as she leads you away from the rest of the hive.

Prior to leaving, Ivan checks his Pokedex. On it he finds a long string of text messages relaying that Ternai Town was under attack, Bandra Officer Darrin was attacking Ternai, help help we're being overrun, and finally two messages more ominous than all the rest combined:
Elren was murdered. Bandra took Ternai. All surviving Starlight Squad meet me in Rieva AEO. L.
Elren KIA. Taking command. Starlight Squad regroup outside Skybreak City. S.
He passes on the information before the two of you split up.

Mark gave Mina a concerned look. He hadn't known who Elren was, but the man had obviously been important. "So which was is it to the meeting point?" They had to keep moving.

Once clear from the hive, Misty calls out Krabby. "She may just be distracted easily, but she shouldn't be. A pokemon and trainer should be focused on their goal. Regardless if it is a battle, training, or just helping each other out. Now me and my Krabby have just gotten to know each other, so I need to work on our connection as well. When we get done, make sure to walk around with your pokemon, avoid using herbs on them..most pokemon hate the taste. Maybe try vitamins instead. Since we want to work on both its levels and reduce how much it is distracted..I will let you borrow my soothe bell while we practice."
Misty hands the lady the soothe bell. "I get that back when we are not practicing. I'll let you make the first move."

Mark and Mina:
Mina called up the map on her Pokedex and showed him.
"We're here," she whispered, pointing to the little settlement north of the pond/lake/whatever-it-was shown on the map. "This is Rieva." She pointed to the settlement on the road leading south. "And I think this is Skybreak." Now she pointed to the much larger city south and east of Rieva. The Squad member confirmed her guess by nodding.
"I'm not sure what Sesh was thinking, going there," he remarked disapprovingly. "It's not a safe place to be."
"Why, what's in Skybreak?" Mina recalled Dien had been ranting about it since they met the Starlight Squad. It was getting annoying.
"There's supposed to be something there. Nobody's sure what, but it went and vaporized a whole caravan of people. It's only happened once that I know of, but around the same time most of the wild Pokemon around the city disappeared, and weird storms started coming through the area. You were in the Shrine of Light, weren't you? You know that thunderstorm that came on us outside Ternai? Like that."
Mina frowned. "Why didn't they both go to Rieva then?"
"You're expecting me to know? Rieva's tiny, maybe he didn't think it would make a good fallback point. Or maybe he's the spy, who knows?"
Mina shrugged, figuring it didn't really matter at the moment. "Well, if Bandra has Ternai now" or rather, again, but no need to dwell on that "we're going to be passing through enemy territory regardless of what we do. We've got ten, maybe eleven miles from here to Rieva or sixteen to Skybreak. That's assuming we go straight there and don't run into anything." We really should have designated a rendezvous point before this mess, she reflected, but her thought process was interrupted as a bolt of purple lightning crashed to earth some distance away.
"And, there's the rift," Mina concluded.

"Nonsense dearie, herbs are very healthy for Pokemon!" the older woman argues good naturedly as she tries to get Clara to take the Soothe Bell. It takes a few tries before the bee Pokemon seems to sigh and take the Bell.
"Okay Clara, try out your Sweet Scent on the little crab!"

The Combee lets out a half-hearted little puff of scent into Krabby's face.
Krabby: 44/44 (Evasion down 1 level)
Clara: 38/38

Mark looked at the rift nervously. "I vote we stay the hell away from that thing, take a long way around. Agreed?" He didn't like the look of the purple, jagged scar in the air, and he didn't know what could come out of it. Mark didn't particularly want to find out.

"I second that, since neither of you has any Spectral types." Mina squinted, peering at the rift. It almost looked like... "Are those your missing Bandra goons?" she asked, still in a whisper. It looked like they had a stack of cages nearby and...were they wheeling them in to the rift? What are they doing? ...never mind, they'll be easier to avoid this way. "Let's just get out of here; I can try texting some of the others but we aren't going to be able to meet up safely until we're out of Bandra territory anyway." Really, really should have made a rendezvous point in advance...
