Cigarettes are the only legal product which, if used correctly, WILL kill you.

"WILL" is a very strong word and not accurate.

And don't forget, that pot is also smoked. Most people don't smoke as many joints as they do cigs, but the ones they smoke are a heck of lot more harmful (referring the smoke affect only).

The smoke effect isn't whats harmful about cigarettes, it's the thousands of deadly chemicals contained within it.

And if cigarettes are used as intended, the idea is that you get addicted. This is exactly what is intended and so I am accurate when I say will kill you. I don't mean that everyone who has ever smoked drops dead instantly....

Well, from personal observation, I'd say that heavy pot smoking for a few years did more harm than 25 years of smoking cigs.

Is it time to agree to disagree yet? I've seen and experienced way too much to back down on this. And I doubt you will either.

Every single argument in this thread I've made myself. And I was wrong. And to be quit honest, I wish I had admitted to myself a few years earlier that I was wrong. It would have saved a lot of grief, for myself and others.

It's now become way too easy for people to purchase tobacco, even with those graphic public service announcements doing the rounds as of present. Back in the 1950's when people first found out about the dangers of smoking cigarettes, Tobacco companies in America made a secret vow to not tell the public about these dangers in order to keep making profit from what I prefer to call 'delayed suicide sticks'.

I don't think that the illegal drugs should be made legal, nor I do think that Tobacco should remain legal. It's made some of my friends addicted and possibly make many more.

@Binabik: Me and friends had experience with Mirijuana ourselves - never had any problems, never regretted it. We simply stopped doing it at one point, because it became boring and we no longer deemed the effect worth the money. Sorry if this sounds crude and harsh, but is Mirijuana to be blamed if some people can't control themselves?

Are videogames to be blamed and banned because some people can't get enough of it and become a danger to themselves from playing games 24/7? I personally think not.

People shouldn't be treated like little kids. If people screw themselves over by using products they KNOW can be harmfull, it's their own fault. If they seek help, help them, but I think it's plain wrong to tell someone they can't do it if the activity doesn't harm others. That includes smoking Mirijuana.

.... And who's fault is that? Sorry, many things are addictive. That's no reason to ban it.

I have to agree with Moonlith. People should be responsible for their actions (I'm talking about responsible for themselves, not for others) -- just handcuffing people to prevent them from getting their hands on "dirty things" isn't going to cut it (like, eh, where are the rights?). If people want to harm themselves or want to take drugs, you'll not going to change their mind by putting them in chains, unless they seek help of course. Your choice is to avoid drugs -- why impose it on others?

(not that I take drugs or anything, in fact I don't even smoke nor drink beer ).

I really think this discussion/thread makes no sense if nobody which gives an argument doesn't smoke cigs or/and pot. And for the record, cigs are a greater threat than pot. Because chemistry proves that, not wikipedia.

My opinion is that people must be responsible for their actions. All drugs should be legalized, including Hero, Coca, etc. Even LSD. Yes, these substances can destroy you realy fast but IS YOUR FREE WILL, IS YOUR CHOICE if you want to use them or not. Alcohool can make people acting as a danger to other pwople and it is not prohibited. SO why drugs are? The same thing with smoking. I tried all of them, smoking, drinking (heavy), and marijuana. You knew that alcohool has a lethal dose, that exceeded is very likely to kill you and Marijuana(the actine substance - THC tetrahidrocanabynol) has not? Fire arms are not prohibited and taking a sniper rifle and shooting let's say 10 people from a high building before killing yourself is lot worst than getting high with a few joints. I belive that this prohibition of drugs contradicts with every man's free will and independance. Is something like a crime. If I wanna die young with a supradose what is your problem?!
Someone posted that soft drugs are't so much a problem, I do not remember who. Belive me, they are very distructive and in few years of constant use, a "softy" like extasy will wreck most of your sistems. There are not soft and hard drugs. All of them do one thing: kill you slowly and painfuly. Maby I sae too much of destroyed guys in hospital and that's why I am so pesimist. But like I said before is everybody's choice. Si, imo the drugs should bee free.

Some drugs should not be legal because of what they do to a person.  Like PCP.  Some hallucinigens and such are dangerous to others if somebody takes them.  They can see other people as strange creatures, or cause them to disassociate from their bodies and hurt somebody.

Just like not even most prescription drugs should be allowed in the workplace or when operating machines.  They can be dangerous to others around the person taking them.  You also should not really take somethings if you live with others, as you might hurt them.  However, what you do when you are alone should be nobody's business but yours .

Yea, making drugs like PCP and LSD legal is just plain crazy. Those kinds of drugs are highly destructive to the person using them and everyone around them.

The danger to others could be assessed, and those which do not pose a threat legalized.

Well let's see.You said that u believe in free will and u want drugs like Heroin and Cocaine to be legalized.I'm 20 and i am able to have a free will in this issue.I know about drugs and i know to stay away from them. But what you are supposed to tell to a teenager or to a kid? What about kids who doesn't know anything about drugs(and there are many of them)? How they supposed to stay away from a "legal"as you wish "product" (which legal means that you can find it much more easily)?
They will fell into addiction and they will die sooner or later as junkies.
And what about drug dealers? If their selling product be legalized they must pay taxes then which means loss of a lot of money j/k
But seriously now i think your thought is totally fault bc we can't all decide by free will. It's simple.
But i want to believe that the weed -under some circumstances- could be legalized. This model works fine in the Netherlands

I disagree, marijuana, cocaine and ecstacy hardly cause a danger to others...

Ecstacy possibly but only in rare cases.

All of them much less than alcohol..

No i disagree dude.Drugs are like alcohol. They drive u crazy, u lose control and then u hope others to help u.Even with some weed.U may cry or u may be agressive to your friends and u just hope to help u even if u hit them and saying whatever comes to your mind and when u are ok again u feel silly and u have to apologize for your bs..but u kno in your mind u'll do it again if u kno what i mean..All these to hide our weakness

Houston police say three teens admitted digging up a child's corpse, removing the skull and using it to smoke marijuana.

"They cut the jaw off of it and wrapped it in electrical tape and used it to make a bong," Officer Jim Adkins tells KRIV-TV. The local Fox affiliate has a photo gallery associated with the case. ...
